Great idea to use the gesso. The marks really help with the lines in the rocks and the movement of the water. Oooh can’t wait to try it. Thanks

Lovely video and wonderful painting! I like to use watercolor paint to color my clear gesso, I have had trouble with acrylics clogging the surface but watercolor paints just mix right in! Thank you for sharing this wonderful video and grand technique!

Can I use regular white gesso instead of clear?
@KarenMargulis3 жыл бұрын
No. The clear gesso has a grittiness to it that the white gesso doesnt.

Love how this took shape. How long does it take for the gesso to dry? Is this an idea that could be used plein air?
@KarenMargulis3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! It really depend on the conditions...humidty etc and how thick you apply the gesso but I find a thinner coat will dry in under 30 minutes. You could use it for plein air if your conditions are stable and you start another painting while the gesso one dries!

Length of the commercial before the video is insane!!!
@KarenMargulis3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for letting me know. I have only selected a skippable ad before the video but I don't see how to choose the length. I try to use the bare minimum of ad choices. Was the ad not skippable? I am looking into what went wrong! I don't want anyone to have to see a long ad!!
@mjpete273 жыл бұрын
@@KarenMargulis I made the mistake of watching a very long advertisement, it was Dr. Marty’s dog food and it was like 45 minutes! I get a lot of longer ads at the beginning of videos lately! It might be your viewers habits not your settings! Just in case you don’t find an answer.

I understand why you didn't go for dark green on the trees right away. I have found that using only local colour gives a strange, crayons-and-coloring-book feel to the painting. It's weird but true!

I found that the paint gave my surface a plasticy feel and took away some of the tooth which made the surface slick! I guess too much acrylic paint
@KarenMargulis3 жыл бұрын
I have had that happen when I made the paint a bit too thick!
@cg839710 ай бұрын
Wouldn't it be more effective to first make the underpainting using only the gray acrylic on the Rives paper, let it dry, and then go over the top of the acrylic underpainting with the clear gesso? That could remove the risk of losing the tooth created by the clear gesso.
