I don't think he was doing that because they were intimidated rather that it was a short confined space and it would have been easier to just wait than try and push through as he slips through as soon as the opportunity presented itself. Girls in New York especially aren't intimidated by something as simple as a couple guys walking behind them. Otherwise they wouldn't be able to get by in that city Along with the fact they didn't even recognise he was there - indicated by the fact that they just talk naturally as soon as he passes. They dont even flinch as Ryan runs past, which they probably would do if they were scared or intimidated. Or maybe even that Ryan was tired considering he was running 2 blocks, and he even mentions that in the scene before, so he was resting slightly.
