I wanted to visit England for some time now. And I kept seeing ads about England - hearing people talk about England - I'm like England is calling to me. Now is the time to go. From the bustling streets of London to the area of outstanding natural beauty of the countryside, this was a rollercoaster of memorable experiences. Each of the cities have so much to offer, and here's what happened during my time in the largest country in the United Kingdom.

A word of advice, don't come to the UK in April if you don't want rain. LOL. April showers bring forth May flowers! Spring in the UK is March, April, May. It's often wet and windy, or just extremely changeable/unpredictable.

What sort of weather do you expect when you travel at the very beginning of spring, yes it rains a lot just like northern states in the US. On the other hand summer temp's can often go into the 30s centigrade especially in the south.

Bizarre, as usual, like many tourists, you did not visit the east, called 'Anglia' where the Angles settled, the original Germanic settlers on the Island and the place where England evolved from and where it got its name from ( even though Germanic settlers were a mix of Jute, Frisian, Saxon, Franks, etc. The counties, Norfolk and Suffolk, where that Kingdom, the borders have hardly changed in 1000 years. The city is Norwich. Incredible to miss this. Missed out on that.

One of the best tourist videos of my country I have ever seen. I am now 89 next month and have lived in the far South West of England for the last 40 years. I see many changes as you go around the towns and cities that I knew, a lot more art displayed these days which is good. Looking at the trees in your photos it's winter or just before spring - it rains here in winter and particularly spring. Rains summer too but not quite so bad and it's warmer. It is what makes our green and pleasant land. Funny though, first two places were where I lived when young, Windsor and Oxford. Bath I know and Bristol is an hour up the road from where I now live. I lived for some years in London where I met my husband 54 years ago. I would like to say you chose some very good places to go to such as Canterbury and Cotswolds, all beautiful places. Liverpool is fun, loved the football. Only went there once because I wanted to take the ferry on the Mersey. I’m glad you enjoyed your visit, I enjoyed your video as I can no longer travel, old age has got me in it’s tentacles. I will look out for further videos from you, thanks for coming to see us.

The Brits don't help themselves by perpetuating the myth that it's always raining. Some parts of the UK are indeed very wet but that is the west and North west because of the prevailing wind off the Atlantic. However London and other places in the south east England are drier than many European and US cities. I worked in Munich for a couple of years and it's far wetter than south east England. I went to the US a few years back and my wife said to a Boston local that its always raining in the UK. Boston MA has 20 inches more rain annually than the city we live in in south east England. It is however very cloudy in the UK which I think may be another factor in this misconception.

It's strange but you do know that getting wet doesn't make you ill or for that matter, make you dissolve. Imagine all those kids getting ill every single day, all day, because we played Football, proper Football, with our feet, in the rain! A tip for anyone visiting England. If you are going to "Visit" as many Villages, Towns, Cities, in a day as possible and only look at the more famous attributes on show, just so that you can say "Been there, DONE that" and not "know" the places that you "Hit", is rather akin to trying to hit on as many women as possible in 10 days! You don't get to "Know" them, you don't get the vibe, you don't get the full ambiance, only fleeting glimpses, fleeting memories and, maybe, remember the names of some of the best sights on offer! !

But even such places on the tourist route like Stratford or York wil give a better idea of the country that stopping in London all the time.

The side of the escalator/side of the road thing isn't a contradiction. For one thing, you could say, "On the road we move forward on the left, whereas on the escalator we move forward on the left," and the contradiction disappears. But in any case, the reason is the same one: the predominance of right-handedness. In medieval times people passed each other on the road on the left-hand side so that their right hand could draw a sword should they need to, which is the origin of driving on the left-hand side. and when it comes to escalators, people who need to hold on to the handrail will mostly want to do that with their right hand.

History is everywhere in England Robert. Not far from me, there is a private school in a small town on the fringe of the Yorkshire Dales. It recently celebrated it's 500th year... So sorry about the weather, it has been an abnormally wet winter/spring. There has been widespread flooding all over the country. It can always be a potential problem in this country but has been especially bad over the last few months. Apparently its been the 8th wettest winter on record! Shame you didn’t like the fish and chips. Some places do them better than others, they always need to be well seasoned with salt and vinegar! And my choice is to accompany them with a pickled onion and a wally (a dill pickle).

Always interesting to see your own country through the eyes of someone from outside. Obviously 10 days is not enough to do justice to more than the tourist hotspots. As others have commented it is worth heading further afield to other parts of the UK and Republic of Ireland too, spend a few days getting to know the place well rather than rushing to the next one. Some of the strangest places are where you get to meet people to talk to and learn a little of what their life consists of. Often in a pub at the bar....!

I realise the lack of holiday time in the US forces short holidays. However 2 cities a day is insane, you didn’t get to experience anywhere properly. I would have recommended 5 cities in 10 days so at least you wouldn’t do every day travelling. For those who are not aware he will have been in each city about 2 to 3 hours maximum as each train journey would have been 2 to 3 even 4 hours,, only time really to take a photo and that’s no time to get to know a place at all.

The traffic lights are the same as the US for stopping - green, yellow, red. The difference comes for going - red, red and yellow together, green, whereas in the US it goes straight from red to green. Didn't want people coming to the UK thinking that if they see a yellow light it means get ready to go when, on it's own, it means the exact opposite. And those white cliffs at St Margarets Bay don't really do justice to the actual white cliffs of Dover. If you want to experience them close up, there are walks along the top of them, giving you good views across the English Channel.

Great video. Thank you Bob. Q. Why do we pass on the left on the escalator? Cars drive on the left. I.e. they "move" or "travel" on the left. So if you are standing still, you have to stay on the right so those who are "moving" or "travelling" can move on the left, the same side as the vehicles when they move on a road. Does it make sense now? Traffic lights go from RED to RED+AMBER. Then both RED and AMBER go off and GREEN comes on. Then AMBER (on its own) followed by RED. When a driver sees AMBER on its own s/he knows the next is RED, so they prepare to slow down and stop (or accelerate hard to avoid the RED - not recommended). When the AMBER come on along with the RED, we engage gear in preparation to proceed because the next is GREEN.

2:14 The caption reads: "Queen Elizabeth II loves the city (Windsor), spending a significant amount of time here." As a matter of fact, she has been staying at Windsor Castle permanently since September 19, 2022 and is not expected to leave the premises again in the foreseeable future..

One thing you should have mentioned about York is that a Gate is a street and a Bar in a name means it’s a gate (as in an entrance in the castle wall).

I love our little country. It’s so diverse. I know the weather can sometimes suck but March is not the best time to visit. Thank you for making the effort to get out of London. I’m a Yorkshire lass. Live in The Dales, work in Leeds and visit York frequently. It’s one of my favourite cities Come back anytime x

We use ‘fancy’ e.g ‘I fancy a coffee’ ‘I fancy a movie tonight’ …it’s when we haven’t yet attained it! So you can’t say ‘I fancy England!’ Cos you’ve already been there! Great video, I enjoyed!

🇬🇧 Warwick Castle is a great day out. Best done in the Summer though. Warwick Castle, 956 years old. It's not a ruin , more like a theme park.

This winter and early spring has brought much higher rainful than usual... I would suggest late spring and summer for warmer, sunnier days when the trees have leaves, flowers everywhere and a much nicer time to visit but well done all packing as much as you did in!

That was enjoyable. Sorry about the rain, we hate it too although it does make the countryside very lush and green. Maybe sometime you'll visit the other three countries of the UK - Wales, Scotland, or Northern Ireland.

Driving or passing on the left? It's all to do with your very useful right hand. During ye (pronounced thee. Y was the old character 'thorn') old (e) days, mugging and robbery was a big danger for those with cartloads of goods, or horsemen with purses of gold... so we drove on the left so that anyone who came close to us had to come up to our right sword arm first. Stabby, stabby, jabby, jabby. We give those who are less able to walk up a moving stairway, more chance of stability by giving them the opportunity to hold onto the handrail with their (more likely stronger) right hand. We may still have cheese rolling at coopers hill, but sadly we abandoned old people rolling down tube escalators. A sad day when health and safety got involved.
