I only tried city folk for a few days, but it had one of my favourite villager interactions. I bought an outfit from Gracie and immediately got chewed out by Francine who was like "What were you thinking? Is that an in-season item? You haven't even paid off your house yet!" 😂 It was almost as good as the time on the gamecube when Purrl went off on me for walking around with a fish in my pocket, only so she could scam me out of it and eat it herself.

To me City Folk is the baseline Animal Crossing game all others can be compared to. It doesn't have the clunky qualities of the original, plus it adds back content that was missing in Wild World. It's also before New Leaf changed up the formula. Not to mention the fact that Cranky and Snooty villagers still act aloof when you first meet them.
@justyourbud Жыл бұрын
It almost feels like the "ultimate" version of what the original game was going for. I prefer New Leaf overall but if anyone is interested in the simple idea of "moving into a new town" without all of the mayor stuff, City Folk is probably the ultimate experience for that. And as a bonus you get the city to go to too! Feels less isolating compared to the first two.
@drizzdrazz Жыл бұрын
its so funny because in most of the videos i saw before i watched this, people were all saying that city folk was the worst one X'D i guess its all opinion at the end of the day, personally the original will ALWAYS have a special place in my heart, all those days of sitting down with friends taking turns, all living in the same village and setting up gardens and fencing them off so my friends wouldnt accidently run through them XD, i remember doing everything i could to try and catch the coelacanth or whatever it was haha. I just modded my 3ds and started new leaf, and im LOVING it so far hahaha i did really love new horizons but it definitely is missing a decent amount of stuff
@leescrossingworld9151 Жыл бұрын
@@justyourbudI do appreciate this sentiment, and I do feel like it is mostly better in that regard than Wild World for sure (tho both the villagers and special NPCs in that game have yet to be topped, and you can't get any npc pics in City Folk), and it's definitely far smoother, easier on the eyes, technically optimized, and user friendly than Population Growing (the original), but I do feel City Folk is just shy of the ideal experience in that regard. There is a much bigger sense of community in population growing, the villagers are generally better and more interesting, and playing it today still resembles the full experience you could have gotten from it playing it when it first released, whereas City Folk leaves traces of features that can't properly be accessed anymore, making the game feel a little less complete and authentic. Other than that though, I've always felt that the graphics/character models of City Folk are definitely the true icons of the classic era of Animal Crossing, and it is overall the most digestible game of the classic era (so long as you use a nunchuck), while simultaneously arguably having the most content, even if not always the highest quality it could have been.

I'd say a big reason for that feeling is that animal crossing went through a pretty big stylistic change after this game and they kept that going in new horizons. Also remember that the wii wasn't all that much stronger than the gamecube, though all things considered because of the stylIzed look I still think city folk looks pretty good visually.

I think the years since this game came out have allowed people to appreciate it more for what it was. That criticism was sorta valid at the time it came out, especially with the state of the Wii's library at the time, but now that time has passed and the game no longer gets looked at as "the one that came out soon after WW and added nothing" I think it's able to finally get a more fair assessment. Personally speaking this was my first AC game as a kid so I've got no criticism whatsoever, I love this game even if it's not my favorite in the series.

Bit late to this, but I think City Folk is underrated because it's on the Wii. As a child, it's hard to get on that console to play the game everyday when your parents are hogging the TV. The DS games never had that problem. Plus, the DS is portable so even when you got dragged out the house, you could still play those games.

I had this exact problem with city folk (or let's go to the city, UK player here haha). I had a gamecube upstairs and obviously my 3ds could handle NL and WW, but I never got to give CF as much attention because the Wii was impossible to reach with my parents using the TV all the time. This is lovely to see! City Folk was always my favourite game. It still has the calm(ish) atmosphere of a small town, it's still a big deal when someone says they wanna move away, you don't have total power, you have to work pretty hard for what you have, villager personalities are still very distinguishable, the NPC dialogue is usually pretty funny/interesting/cute/just plain good, the city is a rally cool function, the lost and found!, pitfall seeds can be used for mischief more easily, it's more of an accomplishment to get all the fruits, it's a shame the online feature is gone but it was cool, redd's club card is actually shady/hard to get, the soundtrack has more distinct sounds for each hour and weather (you can actually tell when it's 4am and snowing if you play enough at that time), the fashion is still awesome but also a bit sillier too, and after all that it still feels like you're living in a town and watching the years go by in a home you've come to love. Some of these things can feel like cons instead of pros, depending on what you like in a game, no shade if you prefer New Horizons! I just wanted to have a little rant about what I love about City Folk on the internet and see if it touches anyone else's heart. Oh and also there's just this feeling I attach with it that's special, I'm sure some of you have that game you can't describe :)

I can't seem to get my money rock trick to work in New Horizons. But in City Folk and the original Gamecube version, if you dig 3 holes behind you, and then hit the rock with your shovel. Your character will never move out of range from the rock, and you are guaranteed to get all 18k bells from hitting the rock with the shovel. Also I remember with City Folk, the easiest way to click on stuff without having to deal with the annoying hand thing, was to use a gamecube controller or point the motion control away from the screen, that way that hand icon won't hit anything. This will prevent you from having to click precisely on a door/tree etc, and will allow you to simply open stuff by walking to it and pressing A.

Alsoooo you can drag a shirt in yur inventory to the edge of the inventory screen to change the background of your inventory!! I believe for city folk and new lead but def for the GameCube version.

Yeah, there's no way that 100 days were spent in this town with all of that running around and no flowers planted and the grass isnt dead.

City Folk was the first animal crossing game I ever played, so since I could not compare it to wild world, I really liked it
