I was eight when I first started playing animal crossing and I thought the mean dialogue was hilarious. Not trying to put down the little kid versions of other people, but...something on a tiny screen you can walk away from or flip closed....that is animal-shaped...did not seem menacing to me no matter what it said. I had the best of times pissing off my villagers, getting insulted by Gracie, jerkin' Resetti's chain. I also worry about the kids who are growing up on all this "I must never be insulted" stuff. Like it seems to be a theme with all the kid stuff these days. Childrens' films, for example, used to have more depth, because they weren't afraid to give kids a taste of real-world conflict. I wonder what's gonna happen when these "keep everything nice" kids grow up and have to work retail...

You can actually get a zero star island all you need to do is start a new island and then don’t make it new account. Nothing don’t join any account now that you’ve done that now you’re done the game. The game is over with now. You’ve got a zero star Island. 😂

I LOVE the fake art. My island and my house has so much art now! Who CARES if it's real? Sometimes when I see a piece that looks really cool, I almost hope it's fake so I can put it where I want it instead of the museum.

3:00 i remember back in wild world how lyle would try to sell me insurance for tripping. there was actually a mini exploit you could do with that. the insurance ACTUALLY WORKED. youd get 100 bells every time you tripped in your mail the next day. so on days when id see lyle, id buy the insurance and then put on the king tut mask, which was cursed to make you trip randomly at an extremely increased rate *like, if you ran without the mask, theres a 5% chance of you tripping if you just hold the run button down and run 5 minutes straight, with the mask, itd be like a 20% chance to trip every 10 seconds* the caveat was that the king tut mask was like 12,000 bells, but after 120 trips it paid for itself

One game that scratches that Animal Crossing itch, for me at least, is Garden Paws. It's like if Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley had a baby! Lots of cute animals, town rebuilding quests, play with friends or solo.

I want to ask, am I a bad or morally inferior person for liking how nice the villagers are in this game? Am I a bad person for liking the calm and cozy nature of Animal Crossing New Leaf? I've seen so many messages talking about people who like nice villagers like they are objectively bad for doing so and that they should feel like bad people for the villagers being nicer in the later games. I can't even escape my curse in a series like Animal Crossing, and I'm getting tired of feeling like I'm perpetually a bad person for enjoying anything.

I really loved Magikarp splash, mostly because it seems to somewhat confirm a headcanon I’ve always had that we only ever see one/two patterns/colorations/etc. of any species of Pokemon is that we only see a representation of the “archetypical” version of that Pokemon, but individuals within a species can actually have a lot more differences than those sprites/models, much like how real animals can have a lot more differences than zoo games represent them with, or cartoons even. Especially domesticated animals/pokemon. I really like imagining things like Fancy Ratata, or Lab Ratata that have been bred 100% albino like real lab rats, grey Vulpix, versicolor Galvantula…

Pokemon home is something I really appreciate. But unfortunately, a lot of the reason I appreciate it are things I don’t think should be provided in a separate “app” from the Pokemon games themselves. The main way I use it is for making trades within the same generation & surprise trading without having to pay for Nintendo Online. It has a lot of the functionality that used to be provided for free in game with the GTS, before it got locked behind a paywall. The “Bank” like features are something I feel sort of makes up for the fact that I have to install a separate app (Twice! Once on the switch, once on mobile!) in order to continue freely accessing the trade features.

city folk was my first game and I spent entire summers playing it, achieving very little other than a full mario set house, a very tan character and a town with 2% grass 98% mud. one of my favorite gaming memories ever. I almost started a new religion with how I prayed to Serena to give me an axe, but to this day she never gave me anything other than a normal axe.

I’ll have to defend the NSO app here. Though I never use the voice option, there’s still other things than make the app useful. I love the keyboard for New Horizons for example, it’s much faster to type something in the app than in the game. It makes trades and communicating with friends much faster. For Splatoon 2 and 3 I love that it keeps track of your stats, you can redeem points for Wandercrust for outfits (and wallpapers in 2), checking the catalog, and you can check the current and upcoming stages and special events without having to boot up the game. I use the app quite a lot for Splatoon 3, I love checking all my stats and watching my scores improve.
