I Spent $100 on 5000 Magic Cards. Was it Worth it?

@@8thPlaceDave 100% agree. I have my collection VERY organized. Color, Spell Type, Alphabetical, and I keep all Rares/Mythics separate and sorted by value.

If half of my cards weren't German, I would do it too. Much easier to find things then type and Mana value

I sort mine by set, then alphabetically. I went through some bulk I have over the holidays, and was amazed to see that I had actually sorted it alphabetically. I must have been bored at the time.

I'm very curious how the original collector ended up with just 1-3 cards per set. Most don't fit a theme.

My collection is a bit like this. I tend to only buy one booster per set, just out of curiosity.

Very likely they bought random bulk themselves, perhaps got them from yard sales or if you buy like those random 1k bulk collections from a site like star city games or whatever you usually get a few random cards from X Set and the rares Ive gotten before fit the theme of those scant few older (worthless) rares from a set like that.

Having them organized by set and alphabetical makes it seem likely that they sold a lot of their stuff online. I did the same thing recently so now all my leftover stuff is organized the same way.

I organized alphabetically by color (W-U-B-R-G) -> multicolor -> artifact -> land. Colored artifacts goes into appropriate colored pile. Colorless goes into artifact pile. Foil/promos goes into foil box, rare got its own box/folders. Quit a while ago though. Long before wotc started cranking out expansion/set like theres no tomorrow.

that goes out the door when you have 1000's of cards. i now have them organized by rarity. all commons. binders. all uncommons. binders. all rares/mythics. binders. lands. binders.

There's a fog patch and memory lapse in box 7, both are useful but not worth a huge amount. dragon's wings is also cool. In the amonkhet box, binding mummy is cool in a zombies deck. There's also a couple manglehorns which are solid. Foil resolute surviors might be worth something at some point. Telling time in box 9 is cool. Ancient stirrings used to be worth but I think isn't anymore. I think icehide golem is getting up there. Creeping chill, notion rain, deafening clarion in the ravinca box is solid. Plaugecrafter is also a good one I saw.

Man, I just loved the Khans set. The flavour was over the top amazing! Still have all the goodies from the pre-release event (Sultai). I wish WotC would focus on creating those amazing blocks again instead of milking the old succesful ones until they are devoid of flavour.

It also depends on where cards are sold i know that some cards sell for different amounts depending on location and availability. So a card shop in DC could pay more than a card shop in NY
