That´s so cooooool!! As someone who has worked, and whose wife still works in the film industry, prop artist get paid a lot, finding a prop artist like her who made something for a small studio is a gem. While she has donated her time and money, she could easily list this video, this prop, and the movie they make in her portfolio and it would catch the eye on any major film studio that would pay her well for her work. Her getting to make a prop like this not only seemed to really excite her and give her a lot of enjoyment, it also opened a lot of doors in the future should she want them.

I completely agree though that if this is a commercial project they should have paid, especially if they're going to scan the robot.

@@whoatemychocolateYes, I agree that is an other thing entirely. That time it just felt a bit "uneven". The video would have been better if there was some kind of exchange benefitting both parties (as LTT has done with NAS hardware etc.) The free model for the Movie is outrageous. T his is not a acceptable way to treat artists and it sets a very bad example to everyone in the industry, especially smaller studios and workshops not yet established. The fact that she seemed to shop supplies for the project and general supplies for herself (the tape) suggests that they weren't even compensated for materials. One thing that puzzles me is if there is a transfer of IP rights for the model, if not, the Movie studio could be charged with huge license fees after the fact...

According to her in the comments, they (the film makers) offered to pay but they (Nerdforge) turned them down because they wanted to make something they enjoyed and was their own design. The film makers were 100% wiling to pay but were instead given a free robot.

I really hope this ends up in a film production. I will watch it just knowing this character design is in it. Soooooo cool.

Love the Simon Stalenhag look to it with the hanging cables and the little antenna, the bipedal look plus the two glowing lights also reminds me of 20th Century Boys!

I LOVE WATCHING RAPID PROTOTYPING, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT JUST BECOMES THE PROJECT. Seriously, that leg/hip system and, and how fast you figured it out, gets me on a personal level. I'm pretty sure I inspired LEGO to do Star Wars licensed sets after I submitted a 'walking' leg-articulated AT-ST made from assorted parts. It more 'shuffled' than 'walked', but I've had a design thing for counter balanced leg systems ever since. Also... totally saw the robot head getting stuck in the door coming by the 8:00 mark XD. Also x2, that ending had some feels to it.

Really like how you used all your skills and moved out of your comfort zone to build this. Note on the spackle usage: You normally have to sand down with rough grit (80-100) then a finer grit (200+) when finishing it, BUT to help with smoothing it out before hand use a little Dawn dishsoap (others do not work as well, but test and see) in the spackle mixture you apply. It does help with the amount of your favorite activity... SANDING :D Again, hats off and well done to you all and your studio.

15:00 Easy to add castors under the feet, and later maybe hide an RC Offroader under one foot and it might move around a stage or smooth floor. It is ace. I do have a couple of robot ideas in mind but I was thinking of making it from wire ,covered in printed material so it was wearable.😂😂 I also like the idea of making a woodland shelter shaped like a flying saucer (I know they've been done before but there aren't enough of them). Your Robot looks great and it's only half built...I'll watch some more. EDIT: Yes, you are a Genius! And Hans is a magical painter! I love the rust and ageing on the side panel too.

Really cool project. One note, for other big projects, I fell really in love with extruded aluminum. Before I knew that this stuff exists, I would never imaged what this material enables to do. It sits between welded steel and wood.

Two years ago I did a production (im a event tech) for a Swedish SFX company(not allowed to say which but mainly does games and movie, for example Star wars), and set their creations exhibition at the Moxy X, outside Hvam, with ASUS as the client. Your creation is as good as theirs. I love your work, you have come so damn far as i first started subscribing to you, you can go damn far still. Let nothing stop you, be where this huge company can see you, appreciate your work and hire you for that price you're worth! You can and you will be making such legendary creations!

The paint job is AMAZING and the small details really make it pop! At 720p you can't tell it's not metal and it looks like an old clunker in the best way possible! I see two major quality-of-life issues with this design. Something this good is _definitely_ going to a Con or a theater for display at some point, after all. First, assembling it vertically is more dangerous and difficult than it needs to be (as is anything involving lifting above your shoulders or using a ladder). The Mk. 2 of this should be designed so it can be assembled horizontally - lying on its back - and then pulled upright with all parts locked in place. (This would also resolve the issue with getting the leg joints lined up.) Second, you also want the individual parts movable with a hand truck at most. All parts should have at least one dimension less than 80 cm in length, to get it through a door and in general be easy to carry. There should also be open spots on the "armor" that serve as contact points with the floor or ground, for easy storage or transportation when disassembled; the last thing this masterpiece needs is for the aesthetic bits to rub off. Removable "armor" panels with zip-tie attachment points, maybe? A physically smaller build might get away with _Velcro strips_ or snaps.

I love the fact that Martina can see her project with just the base done. I'm the same, but I never really met someone else who can get just as giddy over just something bare, because they can see their vision working out. I sometimes try to explain my vision to people and how I can see it totally working out, but they never grasp it until its fully done.

It is part of the appeal of these videos. Seeing the bare bones get filled in because “you know it’ll be good” and you don’t have to do any work.

That was AMAAAAAZING!! Martina you are so so incredibly talented!!! This robot reminds me of the 2nd original Star wars movie - The Empire Strikes back - with those stubby little robots with square heads and backwards legs, stomping around. Yes I know I am showing my age!! LOL But I am 60 years old and a HUGE FAN of Martina's work. LOVE this channel so much!!!
