So we didn't really touch on the V8 versions of this car in the video, we wanted to give some proper attention to the cheapest trim in the family! There are some great primers on those already available, including in Pumphrey's own segment on Speeed (Which you all have probably seen already lol) kzbin.info/www/bejne/ronUdZ5nYt6MoNUsi=xHg_YUj1YZfXZOK9&t=255

My Dad bought an e39 520i in 2008. We drove it for 2 years and it is a timeless classic. The car has 50k miles now and still runs and runs and runs... one of the best cars I own rn

They really check all the boxes! It's a perfect daily driver, and the motors really feel like they'll just run forever!

So glad you posted this specifically. I have not only been obsessed but I really want to make the 540i M Sport my first car. I've been hearing about all of the issues but like you guys said about just wanting to stare at it lol and the experience of driving it. I'm not a mechanic but I do want to baby it and don't mind giving it attention. So I'm determined to make it work once I find one. Anyways, thank you for posting this. I would love more E39 or E38 content from you guys.

My dad owned e21,e28 and E34 and from these old days until today I can't find another car that matches with BMW driving experience (until they break lol😅) ... I love my e39 540i and she deserves all the care & love cz the joy of driving it is priceless.. Btw greetings from Chicago (Nice shirt Justin) ..

Golden-Era BMW in every way. Older BMWs are a love-hate relationship. I had my dad's E46 320i (2.2 M54) 5 speed and now an E70 X5 35d. They've not been trouble free at all, but when they work they're amazing. When they break, not so much. I agree, if you love the cars and do the work yourself, it's worth it. Great if it's not your only car.

Yes exactly!!! If you go into ownership with all of this in mind, it can be an awesome overall experience!

Bought one a year ago as my first car for super cheap- So far the only thing I have done is change the brakes as they started whining quite loud. This car starts every single time, and I drive it every day, but will have to get rid of it soon as rust is eating it up from underneath and I dont have the time or knowledge to fix it myself. Will probably end up buying a bit more expensive one tho, its just so fun to drive these E39s

First BMW I ever worked on was a friend's E39 M5. Might get one myself at some point. I love that this car was the first to ever have halo headlights. I think it's so cool that BMW figured out how to make halos before the use of LEDs was a thing.
@AutomobrosАй бұрын
Cut your teeth on a legend!!! And the halos are just beyond cool. I remember trying to get some halos working on my Acura Integra after seeing the cleanest BMW rolling down the street with just the angel eyes illuminated 🤩
@JasonJoyridesАй бұрын
@@Automobros I also installed halo headlights on my SVT focus I had in high school. I thought it was soooo cool at the time but now anytime I see a car with halos that doesn’t have them from the factory I cringe

I'd say ANY Bmw from the nineties is worth having, it's that sweet spot where modernity meets classic design. I don't think that decade will ever be bettered, certainly not for Bmw. I'm more of an E38 or even E34 kinda guy but yeah, the E39 is up there at the top and yours is perfect, congrats! On a different note it feels like it was only yesterday that you celebrated 500 then 1000 subs and look at you now, well done! 🎉 Greetings from Southern Italy 👋🏻😊

Could not agree with you more!!! Every one of their 90s models looks timeless. The E34 has the quintessential BMW face, and the E38 ignited my passion for BMWs and cars in general! (Can't tell you how many times I watched The Transporter for that car alone) 🥰 And thank you so much man!!! We can't tell you how much we appreciate you sticking with us while we try and figure out this KZbin stuff 🙏🙏 we're so excited for next year, we have some big plans!

I still have my E39 M5 and it’s been a great car that still turns heads
@AutomobrosАй бұрын
I know I twist my head like an owl every time I see one! 😆 How long have you owned yours?
@RobbieHerreraАй бұрын
@ 7 years. It was my brother’s for 7 years before that. He wasn’t driving it much for a few years after he bought a new 911S so I bought it from him. Owners of newer M5’s I’ve met tell me to never sell it cuz it’s a good car.

I have a E39, 523i, manual gear, from 1997, Alusil motor ( it is not a Nikasil motor). 370 000 km. One VANOS, no problems. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, A spring for the left front wheel broke, tyre went all down,.The front very near to the asphalt. New springs from Lesjöfors in Sweden. 👍👍 I have used Lesjöfors at the back of my E36, 316i compact, 1997. They don't broke. Springs on this car from BMW are very bad. ,,,,,Hallo from Norway.🇳🇴
@Automobros16 күн бұрын
Norway!!! That is just too cool 😁 Thanks so much for watching! We've never heard of Lesjöfors, we will have to see if we can find them here in the US!

Yes. As long as its not in Europe as they are mostly rotten. Wish it my old individual was from a sunny place as it jacking points were rotten. Yours looks epic
@AutomobrosАй бұрын
That is such a shame! We can only imagine owning the individual version of this car is a sublime experience (outside of that awful rust!)
