Genji is in rough spot after the global hp buffs. When squishy heroes were 200hp the dash + right click + melee combo was a much bigger threat. Like Awkward said, his damage is not consistent and he has no range. This was offset by him having high burst damage and movement to get quick surprise kills and assassinations, but now that the HP buffs made the time to kill way higher, Genji's burst combo is more difficult and way less forgiving. You can still carry games if you hit all your combos and headshot right clicks, but other DPS get way more value more easily by sitting far away and clicking heads (or even bodies). Dragonblade was already a difficult ultimate that usually required nano or damage boost to get real value, but now it takes so long to kill anything that enemies have more time to react and easily counter you. I consider baiting a cooldown like lamp or suzu to be a successful blade, and getting one kill or baiting an ultimate is a really successful blade. It usually isn't even worth using sound barrier or transcendence to counter blade because it is so bad.

So if you can climb over a piece of the map and land behind the enemy, then you can get some right clicks off while still having both your dash and deflect as escape options

this video remembers me of that one girl that quoted you and said that decisions should be taken not just based on Diamond and above, but mostly on metal ranks because they're "82% of the players". In metal ranks Genji is still a "noob destroyer" if played more or less correctly, but when you traspass the Diamond line it becomes truly hurtful to play. So even if you play the character correctly, in high levels you're so vulnerable, but if they buff him metal ranks will say that "blizz made him so broken". What a dichotomy.

no one says tracer is the hardest to play, t500 players say she has the highest skill ceiling. skill floors and skill ceilings are way different. genji also has a high skill ceiling, but most t500 or OWL pros feel tracer's is higher because her gameplay is more deliberate, whereas genji is often throwing darts in the dark and seeing what sticks (literally, thats what his primary fire feels like a lot of the time. you're just guessing how the enemy will move and not deliberately aiming)

Genji isn't the worst, but he definitely lost everything that made him an enjoyable DPS to play. There's no way any hardcore genji player or any ow casuals for that matter would call playing Genji "fun" in 2024. His kit is simply too outdated and obsolete compared to new heroes like Sojourn and Kiri with OP kits and abilities. It's the same Genji from 2016, only worse in every aspect. While new heroes with OP and complex abilities are added and old heroes get reworked to better fit the current state of the game, Genji is left in the dust with a deflect that is useless against 50% of the damage incoming, and a dash. Great. One would hope that now that blade is useless with the new HP changes, they'd buff his neutral kit. 2 seasons in waiting...

while plaiyng genji, there is no mid gamplay, you need one of two things, perfect insane aim to let enemies killable by yourself, or perfect godlike movement to put yourself everytime in risk of diyng to do actual damage and escape with minimum health if you 're lucky, if you cant achieve one of these two things you will underperform compared to any other dps

Watching this videos is like having a Genji therapy session 🤣as much as I think the blade swing speed buff was actually a great buff I really think his dash damage needs to be buffed to maybe 60-75 damage considering how Genji's entire playstyle is based on getting value out of dash without dying, or he needs something like the self shields that Venture gets for using their drill dash.

The fact that balance team hasn’t made some high skill heroes like Genji more powerful than low skill ceiling heroes just shows why OW 2 is a casual game. Skill is not rewarded thus we may as well be play Candy Crush or Subway Surfers. That said, I still love the game either way, but it’s not a very competitive game for high skilled individuals.

How has the balance team allowed heroes like Bastion and Orisa to be meta for so long is just beyond me. Yes, they recently nerfed them, but still, for most of OW 2’s existence, low skill ceiling heroes have been more impactful than high skill ceiling heroes. He does have the ability to 1 shot but it has to be done perfectly. Genji is one of those heroes where his character design is so good and so much fun that they cant rework him but he also cant be tuned too much or he'll be too oppressive. I would like to see him get a slight buff to compensate for the 250hp increase of which to this day i still wish theyd just revert.
