Seeing this video 5 months late. I'm from Laredo Tx. Also a border town. What the nutritionist said is absolutely right. Growing up we're fed all this delicious Mexican food, but we live a pretty active lifestyle. I'm hoping to get back on track this year with motivation from your videos and other fitness youtubers. Stay relentless!!

I don't think so tbh, he seems like an awesome dude but this crap just seems so fake. I mean cmon he wasted that guys entire day basically and at the end 500$ is supposed to change both their lives?. If Jesse genuinely cared he would mentor both of those guys and keep tabs on them, track their progress, create a diet plan for them and make sure they are sticking to it, logging their workouts. As for the town itself he mainly only seemed concerned about making a "Jesse James West Day" he didn't really provide any input on how he could make the town better just joked around, he could of instead offered the mayor some ideas, could have hosted events with some kind of incentive to get people to want to be active sponsored by Jesse, could have done some seminars in town discussing and explaining the importance of nutrition and fitness. Idk the whole thing to me just seems weirdly fake, I love watching Jesses videos though.

I've lived in the RGV for 10 years. I liked seeing a lot of the culture shine through in this video! There's also some other factors that weren't mentioned in this video: - There are only 2 seasons in the valley. Hot and hotter. It makes going outside and exercising less appealing when you're already sweating sitting at your kitchen table. - The infrastructure isn't in place to encourage people to walk outside. I'm sure you noticed it while driving around, but there aren't a lot of sidewalks in the Valley. It makes you feel like you need a car to get around. This coupled with the heat turns walking to the store to get a few items into a daunting task.

Yup! I live in McAllen. The infrastructure is terrible for the health conscious. The culture does not respect those who are out doing healthy activities. Cyclists are always being honked at and cut off by vehicles, parks are littered and poorly maintained, neighborhood sidewalks (if existent) are occupied by vehicles, etc. Even people who go the to gym are often viewed as outcasts or meatheads. I don't know if most of the people here eat 10k calories per day though, but they definitely have a significant calorie surplus compared to the national average.
@Zupoyo2 жыл бұрын
That's a good point. But at the same time, your diet is 80-90% of weight loss. The city needs some sort of educational programs to teach people how many calories they need in a day to maintain a healthy weight.

Jesse! broo what a great video. I came here after watching the video with Rudy at Fit Farm and i'm just stunned. you're an angel, i literally got goosebumps as you were leaving Rudy's place. You're this loud ball of positive energy and can come across as this happy go lucky kinda guy, but you're an amazing person and listener. You have this ability to ask real questions to connect with and get people to open up. absolutely love how your channel has evolved over the years. inspiring lives every day. stay Relentless!

I’m from McAllen Texas! This was an amazing video Jesse. You have always been an amazing KZbinr and story teller. The problem is not just the food, but the taboo behind just hearing that you’re overweight or obese because frankly, a lot of Mexican families despise doctors. My family has been affected by this and I’ve been doing my best to try to educate them on weight management because I love my family and I don’t wanna see them go early. Thanks again for this awesome video Jesse. All love❤

Holy shit. To think you’d come all the way down here is astonishing, and I do agree that most at fault for obesity levels here in McAllen Texas are due to the fact that we live so close to the border so our culture really does play a part in it. The food here is amazing and can easily hook you in to loving it so much. I just started to go to the gym recently because of you, cbum and anthony mantello. I have seen that more and more people started to go to the gym, so that’s good. I do also believe that most people here have a low standard way of living, and the culture does really come into place here due to the fact that everything we make it home based. Im glad you also brought this problem to light as well because even I who has lived here forgot about this. Well made video and props to you coming all the way down here and really liked how respectful you were to everyone.🤝

Probably one of the most influential, non-clouting and helpful videos I've seen on KZbin in a while. The problem is, Jesse, people do things for entertainment and fame today without making a difference and reaching out. However, you did the exact opposite with the people in McAllen by providing an uplifting and informative video!

Probably the filming time was many times longer but it was a great summary of the root causes of obesity and also the solutions to the problem. Definitely a great video and one that hits home as someone who’s been on the same path as Alex and Rudy and is working to turn it around after developing a passion for strongman. I felt for Rudy as a bigger guy for having someone ask him how long he’s gonna last when he tried the gym, versus just telling him to keep it up and being encouraging, could have made a difference Keep it up Jesse you’ll be at 2 million in no time

Serious comment time: I’ve fluctuated the past couple years and what Jesse said about not being able to stop eating sometimes, it’s so real. Went from 185 at 5’11 to 256 in less than a year. Started my health journey again and now back down to 210 today. This time around I feel so much more focused and looking to maintain a healthy lifestyle for the rest of my life. Realizing when I was at my highest if I didn’t make a change soon, I would just go off the rails and not being able to stop gaining weight. To anyone that’s on the fence about starting, the first steps are always the hardest and you might wanna quit but KEEP UP THE GRIND AND STAY RELENTLESS.

This is truly inspirational, i'm not us citizen but i do relate with the obesity issue. Here in my country there are several cases about people with obesity the worst part is some of them are children and toddler. The causes are also complex like cheap food but less nutritious, people below the poverty line, lack of knowledge about healthy lifestyle, healthy diet etc. And one particular reason about children obesity is that the parents tend to spoil their children with cheap ultra process food. And then they become addicted to that. I hope this video can inspire us to be more aware about our food, our lifestyle our health etc. And i think when we can eat in moderation the impact is not only felt by us people but also our Environment like less food waste etc. Really awesome video👍👍

I’ll tell you what my son at the age of 9 thought he was fat but he was just a 9yr old, so he seen how me and his dad work out and take care of our selfs and watch our size. We have always been in shape, and Iv had 5 kids. Anyway my son started his work out journey at 9 he would wake up early and run around the block one then twice then 3 times a day he started working out in our gym, he started seeing what he wanted in him self, he now is 13 and a boxer, he trains 4days a week. And it’s because he sees your videos and others who put out work out videos. I just want to say you are helping your helping kids see they can do and be great!

This is such a great video. It does come down to the individuals. I live in the valley. I grew up in McAllen and everyone is right. I didn't see one fit person in your video (except you). So yes, it is an epidemic. It is up to oneself to want to make the change and start living a healthier life style. Many people work 8-10 hours a day and then go straight to fast food, and then their couches. It's terrible. The city also needs to update infrastructure, like adding sidewalks to encourage more walking. Adding parks. Adding racquet sport facilities to encourage more physical activity. Adding quarter of a mile racetracks. It is definitely a teamwork initiative. Comfort is our worst enemy.

Thanks for visiting my area down here. You've been an inspiration and I went from 228lbs to 181lbs. 47lbs total. My area is pretty bad and the culture celebrates anything with an over abundance of food. The peer pressure from our culture is another issue, basically if you don't eat, it's a sign of disrespect. Thank you for the video in spreading this awareness.
