Hes not the only one this good trust me. Worked alongside a guy named scott for a few years In Florida when i lived there. You could tear every piece of a 1000 series down while he was gone leave every piece sitting on the table plus or minus a few pieces and he could put it all back together and tell you what's missing or added without an issue. But that's all he did all day long was allison trans theres lots of guys that are very particular in their work and do a truly good job

Great video. I love watching a truly skilled master plying their trade, no matter what it is (to be truthful I'm not super interested in cars/trucks, but somehow this popped up in my recommended). Carpentry, welding, mechanic... doesn't matter. Also, I found it interesting when you were watching him, you didn't say a word. I'm the same way, when I'm around someone who clearly knows what the hell they are doing... I just shut up and listen.

Me too. I do numerous trades, paint, drywall, electrical, welding and fabrication, cnc plasma cutting, work on my own vehicles and am good at a few things like this guy. It is also enjoyable to watch other masters at their trade. My uncle owns a trans shop, but rarely does the new Allison transmissions, and he works in a similar fashion but has dedicated tables to drain the fluid when tearing them down. It was cool to watch him build the TH400 for my truck.

WOW buddy, this guys brain i wish i had to do this. Amazing how good he explained this, awesome video But the best for me was, When he spoke about the stock trans and stock torque converter shuddering once it locks up. My truck always has done that in the higher tunes. I asked many knowledgeable people/mechanics what could cause this. Never had a solid answer to what was causing it. I thought it was always the coverter itself. This was a awesome video. I may look into having these guys do this for me when the time comes. Glad it worked out for you man trucks looking good!

When they are designed right yes... But then there's GMs 700R4 that later evolved into the 4L60 and that was just a horrible trans for a truck. Small Transmission that was strapped to V8s with internals that would shrapnel under harsh treatment. The Turbo Hydramatic that later came to be the 4L80 is great though. Some issues that can be updated but very strong. The 3L80 is what military Humvee use.

There's a Man that knows his stuff! I purchased my '05 new, and about 10 years ago, I had leakage also! I found a bulletin, that said the Bell Housing was made too porous from the factory. The fix was silicone at the mating surfaces to the trans. I just heard Mike say he does not like silicone! I'd bet now it was O-ring leakage, instead? That was about @ 90K miles, and I have 170K miles, with no leakage....yet? If I ever have issues, it WILL be Mike that does this job, period! That's a 30 hour round trip for me, but he looks like he does a Super bang up job! Thank you for the Vid, I got an education, for sure!

My husband also installed the stage 5 from ppe because they are local and supposed to be the best. But like you ours also shit the bed. They replaced everything but the main basket, and chose to reuse it. And it failed, after only light use. So we went to Buds diesel in Huntington Beach and they had Mike L. From Inglewood tranny build us a bomber that has been trouble free, and shifts like butter. PPE makes great parts, but shitty service.

He knows his stuff, but it looks like it fits together fairly easy, so with enough training, practice, and attention to detail is something that numerous people would be able to do. I used to work on electric clippers for the animal grooming industry and it was the same but obviously more simple. After doing enough of them people were amazed at how quick I was and unlike other repair guys, we measured the dimensions and resistance on the critical parts. It is like learning to do brakes, bearings, etc., just on a more advanced scale. Some mechanical items aren't built to be easy. I was a painter for many years and always removed and reinstalled door locks, but did run into one brand that was a nightmare to assemble. Most we could almost do blindfolded and these we finally just taped off to paint as it wasn't worth the hassle.

My uncle owns a trans shop and used another trans with the bell-housing down, tail to tail, so they can drop the internals in. He does have a dedicated trans cart that has a drain in the middle with a bucket under to catch the fluid that runs out. Across from that is a steel bench with a trough at the front and a drain to another bucket. I was checking out a an aftermarket billet th400 case he was building for a baja 1000 truck that was in 3rd place last year, but I don't follow racing and don't know what class runs th400s. It is worth putting some time and effort into work stations and assembly jigs for work that is done all of the time, no matter the trade.

FYI to the DIY'ers: Use Snow White petroleum grease on both sides of your filter, sump/pan, valve body/module gaskets on your automatic transmission's (where ever oil is present). It makes removing things the next time around a breeze because the gasket does not bake onto the surface, equaling less time spent scraping gasket material off surfaces. Doing this will not affect your oil quality or level. For piece of mind professional's use this technique (who I was taught by). Also thank you for this video. great content!

We a fleet of 2500 and 3500 with Duramax and a lot of the trucks needed transmission rebuilds. The trucks are weighted down with tool boxes and tools probably 5000extra lbs. Low miles trucks are 3 years old under 36k miles. We also pull trailers with equipment. Gas pipefitting tools get heavey. The motors are strong but these transmissions are garbage

When a guy can pull apart any complicated part like a transmission, motor, rear end, anything like that and can walk you through what he is doing and explain everything why he is doing it and can walk you through it explaining how it was act and what cause what just by looking at it yet while the whole time he is rebuilding your part. He knows the Alison better then the back of his hand. He can assemble it and he has an idea what all the tolerance are going to be and knows exactly how to fine tune it to be perfect and again all while having a conversation while Your filming and not once has he looked up anything in the book. He knows how parts are supposed to be and how tight things need to be and he’s not questioning anything he is doing because he has done so many of them. I bet you he could do this blond folded or with one arm tied behind his back and talk someone else through with using their hand. This is the guy that it doesn’t matter what the cost is. Call him get a quote Dave your beans with some Extra and give him the keys. When you pick it up you don’t even need to look at the bill just pay whatever it is. First off either he is great scam artist or he is a real honest mechanic and knows his stuff. Even if he is the most expensive at a rebuild it doesn’t matter your paying for his knowledge and his skills. He has spend the time and did the work to learn his information but he’s also fair with it. Sure he likes money just like everyone but at the end of the day I know his name Means something to him and he wants to make sure he can sleep good at night. Your paying for quality. No matter what at the end of the day the money will end Yo being the same. Either pay a cheap bill 3 or 4 or just pay it One time and be done with it. It’s a shame most mechanics like this guy are a dieing bread and are getting harder and harder to find. Plus any Mechanic that is willing to take the time and talk to you on the phone before You spend any money with them that one clue he knows His crap.
