Since you took regular WFT's and turned them into different bikes (Team Models), I don't think I'd worry so much about OG parts, since some of those part models didn't originally come on that model bike anyway.

Hey there! Been watching your videos lately and I have to say I’m a huge fan! Subscriber now as well!! Honestly I want to try and build a 1987 for my son but I don’t know how to tell if the parts I’m buying are real or fake! Can you do a video with one of your bikes so we can see what a real bike looks like- like the serial numbers and how to know if they are legit or replicas! And also where you get your parts/frames. I would truly appreciate that!! Thank you! My name is Antonio by the way!

That’s terrific. And thank you. I very much appreciate that! 👍 I think that’s a terrific idea. I’m sure he’ll like that very much. Most parts that are reproduction parts can be bought on porkchopbmx.com. It will save you a ton of money and the build will still look fantastic. Repop parts are very close to the originals. As far as frames are concerned, you’ll need to buy the originals. bmxmuseum.com is a great place to start. You can find frame sets for about $2000. I’ll see if I can put a video together as well. Nice to meet you Antonio! 👊

@@bmxfreestylefanatic ok great! Thank you! Yea I’ve been looking for some frames and I noticed that the ‘85 & ‘86 are a bit cheaper than the ‘87. Is there much difference between those years? Also I’ve seen that some frames have the 4130 numbers behind the seat under the GT logo- what does that mean? Also thank you for the links!
@bmxfreestylefanatic5 ай бұрын
@@jbv6052 Yes, there are a few differences between the early 85/86 frames vs. the 87 frame. First, the 87s have the S curve double bend frame vs. the single bend frame on the earlier models. In addition, you have the coin roll just below the seat post clamp stamped GT - 4130. The 4130 is the type of metal used to make the frames (chromoly). 4130 is made from 2 key elements of its composition, chromium and molybdenum. This is a general-purpose alloy steel that has been widely used by the aviation and motorsports industries AND making GT bmx bikes frames for years. 👍
@jbv60525 ай бұрын
@@bmxfreestylefanatic ahhh ok! I see, so the ones that don’t have the 4130 are still legit frames but just made from a different material? Are they still good or would you say the 4130 frames are superior quality? Thanks so much for the info!

Sick sick sick! You’re sick in the head and I love it!! I agree about Ernie’s. I exclusively use him and couldn’t be happier. Any particular reason you went with the double flange on the black grips? Was that how the OGs were? Does the chromer provide restoring services? Did GT offer chrome stem, brakes, and pedals in 87? I’m really into catalog and production builds since those are what I would see on the showroom floor back in the day. I’m venturing into the custom builds but I don’t plan to go after OG parts for custom builds. I feel like having repop makes more sense. Both financially and conceptually 😂 Great vid, homie!
@bmxfreestylefanatic5 ай бұрын
Yes, I’m a lot crazy these days.. lol. I actually ordered the double flange by mistake. But after receiving them, I actually like them. 👍 And my chrome guy only chromes. As far as restoring parts, I’d use Ernie’s for that. He’s really good at restoring. He can restore just about anything. And to my knowledge, GT did not offer any chrome stems or pedals in 87. Chrome was not popular in that era. And you really can’t go wrong with the catalog builds. There’s tons of reproduction parts available today to build a bad ass bike at 1/3 of the cost and I highly recommend it!

Plastic , rubber, etc is never going to hold up over time. We do what we can to make them as close to original as possible. I'd rather ride the bike than sit there and look at it.
