Great job , one thing to add next time your scrapping bolt and especially screws but them in a 55 drum then put the drum in the truck. By just dumping them in the bed there is a great possibility of screws falling out onto the ground.

Definitely wear a respirator if you do this, particulate rat poo is dangerous, I can only imagine what aerosolized rat poo would do!!!!
@someperson7
@someperson7 Жыл бұрын
If you have to deal with mouse droppings you may find a respirator helps prevent E. Hanta. Also three points of contact is a fundamental safety practice when climbing. As is clipping off with a safety harness when above four feet. Farmers always be getting hurt cause they don't have anyone to make them work safe. You have to make yourself. You are your own safety department. And if you don't... All this work, everything, poof. Gone like that man.

I was having a panic attack seeing him sweep that rat poop up. A few years ago a woman cleaned up an old home out in the country south of here that had been vacant for years. It was reported she became ill with respiratory problems and then her young child did also. Both died and during autopsy it was discovered both had Hantavirus. Until then I never knew you could die from airborne particles being stirred up in rat poop. Please don’t do this again Cole!!!!

Cole, to better utilize the warm shop /garage space, make a 2nd floor / loft in the far right corner which you can enclose and use for your gym, then you still can store items underneath. I would also install a cealing below the rafters to reduce height and total air volume which you are heating up.

GOOD video, it does my heart good to see you prioritizing your time and being efficient. I'm not trying to rain on your parade but at 70 years old several suggestions jump out at me, first you need to keep a clear opening in front of the electrical panel so you can walk up to it and open the front for easy access, it's not just a fire and safety thing, it's also in the building and fire codes. The easy fix might be to swap the man door and bench/ tool areas to the opposite sides of the overhead door. Air compressor up in the air is a great idea, just frame up a corner shelf above head height. Think about removing the pump and motor from the tank and keeping them accessible, put the tank on top, make sure that the tank drain is easy to use, plumb it down to an easy to service height. For shop layout ideas you should take a video tour of C & C Equipment's shop in Nashville IN. Clint deals and refurbishes military and dirt stuff. Their shop is probably the best thought out and functional medium size shops I've ever seen. Tool and bench area, heavy equipment pit with pressure wash and pump out sump for washing under vehicles, I-beams in the floor to protect the concrete from tracked machines as well as a place to weld in tiedowns if/when needed, separate fab, plasma, machine, material storage bay Separate paint and prep booth/bay. His heavy dirt wash area is outside away from the building but with the steam genny and equipment in a shed, probably not ideal for you in your climate in the winter
@hammyh1165
@hammyh1165 Жыл бұрын
We use galvanised steel dustbins for our grass seed , very effective at keeping the mice out. Don't mount the compressor too high or you won't be able to drain the moisture from the tank easily.

It's always nice to see Cole and Cooper working together, and having fun, as well. Y'all are doing a great job!!! Will you come and clean out my shed? LOL. When we bought our little farm, the couple was downsizing, and left EVERYTHING with the house. He was a major DIY hoarder, and bought entire hardware stores, when they went out of business. He also left tractors, mowers, tools, etc, at no extra cost to us, so we cant complain too much. My husband is gone most of the time, so the sorting, tossing, repairing, etc, all falls on me. I need to 'hire a husband' for my to-do projects. LOL 😁 I sure do love your puppers. I have two German Shepherds, 1 Cane Corso Italian Mastiff, 1 Chihuahua Rat Terrier, 2 black and white Tuxedo cats, and 12 chickens, and they mean the world to me. It broke my heart when your other dogs died. I'm thrilled when I see these two pupperoonies playing and hanging out with you guys!! Warms my heart to no end!!!

I agree with the comments about the mice droppings. Not good breathing that stuff. Get yourself a "shed cat", neuter it so it doesn't go off looking for love and you have a mouse exterminator. Not sure if you can get it in your state. But I use a product called “one bite”. It has to be bought at a farm center or like tractor supply. I buy it by the case. Wear gloves break it apart. Looks like mini square corn cobs. The nice thing about it is that it has a hollow center and I wire it in locations so that mice can’t drag it out where other animals might find it. It kills quickly and they have no odor when they die. You can also put it under the hoods of equipment being stored for the winter and they won’t be chewing up your wiring. I use it in the garage, the house, and the storage building out back. We have an indoor dog so I wire it under the frame of like the couch etc., or to pipes under the sink. Behind things like the dishwasher, washer dryer. And even in the A/C heat closets. My moto when it comes to mice… they may come in, but they don’t leave alive. For somethings like my costal hay I keep for gardening I use metal trash cans so no need for it there. And since my garden is organic that’s helpful. But since I’ve started using “one bit” I’ve needed No professional help. Anyway, even hanging or placing it around your tools etc., mouse will disappear at a farm I’m sure you can’t get rid of them all but it’s a start. For my home no mouse is safe. Of course I have the same feelings about spiders and those large nasty roaches that try to come in. Hate those things. Ok, I don’t like bugs!

Cole look at a divided open wireway (tray). Run the tray up about 12 feet from the floor. One side 220 Volt, other 120 Volt. Then make the brackets to hold the wireway wide enough to support both the tray and air pipe line. In that air line I would install tees every 8 feet for air anywhere in the shop. This arrangement is what we run in mills so you can drop and air leg down anywhere there is a tee and you can pull another wire line and lay it in the wireway to add and outlet of either voltage where and whenever you want.

My Grandfather used cats to keep the mouse population down in the barn, and his machine shop, he never had to feed the cats since they ate the mice. He started farming in 1896 and retired in 1950. His tractor and combine and implements had a separate building for storage and did not have anything else in it. All his older equipment was taken up for scrap drives during WWII. Everything revolve around the barn, except the house he live in. He mainly grew wheat, but also raised hogs, chickens, and had cattle, mostly for subsistence plus the family garden where they grew vegetable. My cousins have the farm now, it is up in Langdon, ND, really gets cold up there. It only makes sense that things have really changed since then, and I do enjoy watching your videos and see what you are doing and how you have improved your farm.

Cole, If you want your shop to look good and be even more efficient, you should replace your fuse panel with a breaker panel. Run your wiring to the ceiling and put retractable extension cords, and hose reels from your air compressor in several locations on both sides of the shop. This does two things for you. 1. It keeps all your wiring up high where you won't have to worry about water, or equipment damage. 2, You will never need to run an extension cord, or air hose, that will always be left laying on the floor. Yes, I understand there is an expense with doing that, but in the long run when you aren't having to replace $30 fuses anymore, and your extension cords and air hoses aren't getting run over and cut and needing to be replaced, the initial expense will eventually pay for itself. Other than that, you and Coop did a great job cleaning up the shop.

I would recommend leaving the air compressor on the ground so you can easily do routine and preventive maintenance. I've found that when equipment is not easily accessible it does not get the maintenance it is supposed to have. It's very important to drain the water out of the tank so the tank does not rust out along with keeping the air filters clean.

None of your buildings seem to have a rear fire exit door. All the doors are upfront and the buildings are so long. With all the chemicals and welding that goes on, it could be a death trap.

Hey Cole I make some DeWalt tool storage hangers that hold tools and batteries so you can mount it on the wall and keep your power tools off the bench

So clean & tidy!. If you spray lavender essential oil on surfaces & underneath your table, it will not only smell better, but will repel your rodents.

What about the idea of a heavy rolling work bench to work with? Doesn’t need to be huge but saves you from having to walk back and worth but can also be tucked away. Mount a vice on it and have a plug in setup to power your tools if need be.

Just fill a five gallon pail about half way with water and leave it against a wall. Put something in the pail that floats but is very light. Sometimes the whole mouse family is in the pail in a couple hours.

Hi Cole! Get Fabulous at Lowes,or Home Depot, or Tractor Supply, or even Ace. Spray it on places that you want to get rid of mice. It works for rats as well as mice. You are doing a good job! By the way, what is the new puppy's name?

Fabuloso not Fabulous. It is a lavender scented cleaner that rodents hate. You'll have to repay periodically, but it works to let rodents know that they are not welcome.
