You're right it's more about playing then collecting now. My local card shop has 20 to 40 MTG players on commander nights and sealed nights. There's a couple collectors that are usually there. They show up with binders and they're trading with players the entire night. Everyone just brings decks.

I recently bought a collection that was out of this world...gaeas cradle, tropical island , eureka, serras sanctum, mirror universe, 4 survivial of the fittest..metal workers, null rod. ..8 rhystic studies..dude it was insane and I wish.I video taped it but hey sometimes its nice to just be in the moment of awe by yourself..cant tell you what I paid cause Ill get hate

You don't find it concerning some rando contacted you with a collection and then sold it for less than almost 1/3 it's value? It would be different if you went to them. Something isnt sittin right. He came to you knowing you are a content creator which means they know the cards have value of some type. Either this is was just a set up for the views or I'd do some research on how they source their cards they are selling you. Something is fishy

I've been tempted to do something similar, although probably to lesser amount. Mainly because Matt seems to be a good guy, his luck lately hasn't been great after his move, and giving up a little money isn't a biggie. I'm guessing the gentleman probably can probably afford it, (otherwise he wouldn't do it), and if it makes him feel good to help someone else out, all the better. That, or he doesn't understand the value of the cards he has, or he wanted an easy deal with someone he pseudo-knows, and maximizing profit wasn't of highest importance.

I sold him the collection. I have zero patience to sell all the singles to maximize profit nor do I need the money. I contacted Matt after watching some of his videos where he was down on his luck. I offered the whole collection but it was worth too much to fairly make on a first contact. There are indeed too many people in this world wanting to screw each other over so I understood not wanting to invest so much before meeting me. So we found some middle ground and I tried to find a good assortment for everyone to appreciate. I actually had to remove some value because there were a few too many fetch lands in the one box. That said, I also wanted to make sure he had his value in there because I like to see how happy people are when things work out good for them. My target was $1200 min value and he got that so I am happy with the deal. What's worth MORE than the money for me is seeing my collection get immortalized in video like this. So end of day, both me and Matt walk away happy.

This type of thing is not abnormal whatsoever.. Rather than putting in the effort to sell individually you sell in bulk to a safe buyer. And you know it'll come with a hefty discount. Could also buylist for about the same, maybe even less, but why not do it for a guy like this vs a larger company? You're over thinking this and seems a bit like jealousy of the fact he got a great deal. Did you overpay for some cards, or have your collection devalued to a large degree? Something that makes you mad when you see this? Or maybe you're just pessimistic.. but let the guy enjoy the win

@@samwisegamegeek people move stolen collections quite often; especially in parking lot deals or flea markets. All I am saying is no one would willingly give up that much value in cards without the home hookup for views or they wanted to move product quickly. Seeing as they "reached' out to him I'd say something is a miss here. If I were thus content creator I would research by calling local game stores to see if anyone has reported their collection stolen.
