You allow us to see the natural, linear progression of the fixes with little to no spoilers, but you also include what happens in the description so that we can find out what happens if we want to know before watching the whole video through. I'm not watching just to find the answer poised in the title, I'm watching because you've made a genuinely informative and entertaining video, and I really like that I'm able to make the choice based off how I feel that day. @@Tronicsfix AHHHHHH when you know Luis why are you putting it in the ultrasonic befor troubleshooting? If you have corroded balls under a chip you can repair them by reflowing but after being in the ultrasonic the corroded balls wash away. And I have never seen Luis check the caps of the gpu so I don't think that they fail often. How low was the resistence? I repairded some desktop gpu's and the have around 2-4Ohms.

You should connect a variable power supply to your shorted power rail (at a low voltage - maybe 1 Volt) and then see which component gets hot. You can use isopropyl alcohol to detect what is getting hot since it will evaporate nice and quickly on that hot component. The component that gets hot is what is causing your short to ground.

So i bought it and grabbed myself some thermal paste to help with any heat issue, and did all the bios, driver, and software updates needed. now, it works GREAT! with some patience and research, I was able to discover that there a thermal throttling issue with the i5 CPU. so when i update the chipset, I was able to keep it from overheating... btw, this laptop cost about $1200..... I loved that thing, but it stopped working altogether one day, so I gave it to my buddy's dad and bought a Window 7 laptop to replace it at half the cost. Unlucky Steve. Very watchable nevertheless. I remember a PS3 GPU was showing lots of shorts on one of my videos. Apparently this was normal as I was testing in continuity mode rather than getting the Ohm reading so they weren't actually full shorts. You have probably already tested this off camera as I am sure you would have put the hours in when spending that amount of $ :-) It seems such a shame as it didn't look too bad, and it cleaned up really well. Hopefully you may get some life out of it on a revisit video once the comments come in :-)

Even if you cannot fix this one use it as practice. Voltage injection is a common method Louis Rossman uses to find shorts, just make sure the injected voltage is lower than the normal power rail voltage (for you vcore less than 1 volt should do but check schematic for Max voltage). Also replace the bad cd3215 for charger problem (check for warm chip, I think Louis recently figured out a new way to tell which one is bad) also ensure your charger can output 20v.

i just want to say to everyone is if you spill water on your device the first thing to do is remove/disconnect the battery as soon as possible. it will stop that green corrosion that shorts the components. after that you can dry off that water with hair dryer or leaving it for two or three days in bag full of rice to absorb any moisture. and if you still find that green corrosion, you can use a toothbrush and some ipa to brush that off. then connect the battery, press the power button and hopefully your device will start up like nothing's happened to it 👍

This was a fascinating video and I love your honesty. You could have easily bought this, figured it wasn't fixable and never made a video or comment about it. Instead, you showed us what you were doing, admitted it was unlikely to be fixable, and ask for support and suggestions. I respect that a great deal.

@@Tronicsfix You might as well. If he's not interested in a collaboration, just send it in with a note about this KZbin video, then if he does try to fix it on screen, at least you'll get to make a followup video about it. Worst case, you're out the shipping costs (both ways), and maybe a $50 bench fee if you qualify as a repair shop (they don't do free estimates for repair shops).

@TronicsFix Just reflow the USB-C chips, the ones that where water damaged, regarding the CPU and GPU diode tests, most of them should be close to a few ohms to the ground anyways, the multimiter will show continuity, (don't take my word for it!!!) Bought 3 macbooks with water damage all of them started up after reflowing the USB-C chips with some decent flux. Sort the usb chips out and go from there. 80% it will start up. Now just because it worked for me it might not for you and also be prepared to change the display as although the water went to the motherboard and keyboard, as my macbooks got shipped to me they got turned around quite a few times during shipping and the liquid went all over the screen. Best of luck, hope to see this macbook alive again and amazing videos!

Next time, if you want an easy Macbook fix, look for a no power 12" Macbook from 2015 (A1534). The motherboard is a bit cramped down to a "tablet size" board but it often most likely only needs a replacement of the U4700 chip.. it's the most common problem as these will fail. They go down fairly cheap on ebay and can be sold for at least 100$ more even if the repair only costs around 5$ (I don't think that they are worth keeping though, they really feel like an ipad with a keyboard and macOS installed)
