I Spent 8K On My PowerTour Car And I Have A Problem

In this video I am getting my car ready for a big trip and the clock is ticking, Last minute car repairs don't usually turn out good but I'm going to try and get this thing ready for a 1500 ish mile trip. wish me luck. enjoy.

It's definitely worth putting money into as long as you don't plan on selling the car, that's when it becomes a problem. Resale value on these old box Chevy's are not what some would say great, let's say the current value is 3 grand well that's all it's worth and putting 8 grand in doesn't increase value so now you'd have a vehicle that has 8 to 10 grand into it but only valued at a third the cost and no one's gonna buy a box Chevy for 5 grand or more lol.

Very cool car! I had an '89 Caprice...ex-cop car, but with only 14,000 miles at 12 years old! I always wanted to convert it to a manual 5-speed transmission, but alas, that cop-350 suffered a cracked cylinder head and block, so I let it go. Yeah, I'd still love to restomod a Caprice one day.

pull the intake off the 350 order you an off the shelf cam with a little extra duration put it in the 305 put the intake on it. Put you a 650 Holley use the headers you have you should be good to go won’t make a ton of power, but you’ll have a little more throttle response in a little better sound, you don’t even have to upgrade the springs get you something in the realm of 230 -236 duration @.050 .480lift max if you plan on running it hard, then upgrade the springs that will really live in the little engine up. My experience is 60 to 75 horse gain

LOL! 230/236 cam would give a 305" that doesn't make any power until 3500 RPMs... then stock valve springs are overwhelmed by 4500 RPMs...

My first car was an early 80's 4 door Caprice. It had the police package, with a 350 and a limited slip differential. My friends named her "Sassy," and she was a tire smoker. I loved that car. I'm looking forward to this build. 🙂

These original 305ci Caprices will cruise in comfort all day long. I'd put that back in it and be on the road by next Wed.

In the 80's my friend showed me how to get more power out of the 305. There is a hack for the carb ,also need to open up exhaust. Change intake and a bit of clean up on ports on head . Know they didn't make a bunch of HP but it did wake them up considerably.

It's worth it to you. That's what's important. I once had a 1976 Nova 4 door I lost in a wreck. If I had had $8000 just to spend on it I would have even though most people would have said it wasn't worth it. I still loved that car. I do miss it.

Love the Caprice. Great color, my dad had a78 Malibu with that same color. Looks like a nice car, they don't make em like that any more.. Wish when I had my 79 Camaro back in the day GM had put a 4bbl on the 305 instead of 2. GM...who knows!?

Get a used radiator and dump it full of. Ceramic radiator/block sealant and run a 7 lb cap. The cack is not near motor mount or any of that, it's still a good motor. Most of the time a crack where that one is is full of casting clay from factory.

You need to check out some of #junkeruo Chris Birdsong, he dumped a bunch of cement or rock block in a peice of crap Dodge charger, came in 2nd place in thejunkyard dog drag nationals. The door was angle iron and shackle was welded to square channel iron His rust bucket race team is legendary!

If the crack is just external, grind a "V" and weld it. Also, years ago I had one with a crack near an expansion plug, cleaned it, ground it a little and packed it full of JB Quick. Drove that truck daily for 3 years and the guy I sold it to drove it until the body rotted apart. People laughed, but it worked.

My dealership sent the order out but sonewhere the order was lost for a 2 door triple blue Caprice landau back in july of 1985. I instructed them to replace just send out anoughter order. They refused claiming the new models were coming out and if they could even find one nationwide it would cost more for them to transport it to their delership and deliver it to me. So I got my casgmh refund returned. Two additional dealerships within fifty miles of my home would not even attempt to place my order. And nothing on their lots with exception to a sedans or a wagons even came close to matching my criteria. At least we got our cash deposit back. 😊

Ls swap it.. 4l80e and a 6.0 or 5.3 will push that caprice down the road nicely and youll get better milage. My 87 cadillac fleetwood brougham is ls swapped with a 5.3 and 4l60 and she thumps while getting 24 mpg consistantly. It'll be fine bud...
