I know this is probably beating a dead horse but I can't help but see similarities between her and Shayne. On top of both of them ironically being private people with very much vibrant personalities on camera, it's interesting how they both started out on Smosh not even part of the main cast, but now you can't even imagine the ensemble without at least one of them. All of this in addition to them being amazing writers and having so much acting experience, and Angela being a Shakespeare nerd and Shayne being a book nerd also lends itself to their parallels. At the risk of sounding parasocial(?), I wanna say some things. Been watching Smosh since I was a literal child (in my 30s now), been through every single arc, every single development, every cast member being introduced, every cast member who left, and believe me when I say that Angela is genuinely one of the best thing that's ever happened to the company and to the channels. She's introduced so much variety and so many interactions that never would've been considered if it weren't for her and her brand of acting and comedy. The characters she's come up with, and all the things shes written for the channel are some of the most memorable in Smosh history, her contributions are massive. She's an unabashedly goofball who knows a trillion different ways to entertain or make people laugh, and if she ever ran out, I have zero doubt that she'd just simply invent a trillion more. Her and Chanse are easily my two favorite additions to the cast, when they're in a video together, it's a "drop everything and watch" video for me. They brought the hugest breath of fresh air to the company and I appreciate them so much for it. The laughs these guys have provided for me will stay with me forever.

It was especially great as I was (and often still am tbf) struggling with a lot of mental health stuff and found that all of their stuff was one of the few big things I could watch reliably and find joy in throughout, Angela is definitely a big part of that, as are Damien, Spencer, Arasha and Chance. Angela in Nerdy Prudes Must Die is I think my favorite character in that type of musical ever. She's just deliciously unhinged/feral and takes the good Christian girl goes wild trope in the best direction. I really hope we see more of Grace Chastity. i’m about to be really parasocial: i relate SO much to angela kind of acting as the jester- making people laugh at the cost of your perceived intelligence (being silly BECAUSE ITS THE MOST FUN). i was that person for a long time, then started resenting the way people started treating me because of it. but honestly i have never happier then when i allowed myself to be silly to cumulate this feeling of joy in a room. what i think most people see but don’t say about angela, is how f*cking talented and INTELLIGENT she actually is. you don’t get this far without an intense understanding of people skills and talent. she’s so well spoken and an absolutely incredible actress. Smosh wouldn’t be the same without her.

I don't think it's parasocial to relate to public personalities. I think it's a large part of them being succesful.
@EJackhorseman18 күн бұрын
Just so you know nothing you said was parasocial that word has become a parody of itself because people use it in the wrong context or just don’t know what it means so I understand why you’ve maybe thought that. However everything you said is a normal beautiful human experience in which you have encountered another person that you relate to on a deeply personal level that makes you feel seen. That’s a touching empathetic experience you’ve just had and I’m happy that you’ve been able to connect with someone else’s human experience without having to be in the same room as them. This is normal; this is healthy. Being parasocial would be you then believing you KNOW Angela deeply , you assume things about her life and what she likes and then insert yourself into her narrative by acting as if you are her friend anytime you talk about her. You’re good

I think one of the displays of exactly this is how she... like... "bumps". You know how in volleyball there are three fundamental hits, right? Bump. Set. Spike. The spike is the big showy moment. The set... well... sets up the spike. But the bump keeps the ball from hitting the ground and positions for the set. And it's the hit that hurts. You're gonna eat up your knees and elbows diving into the ground. Angela bumps. Those "I'm having so much fun!" statements in games videos? Bumps. Unhinged interjections to play into a "cut that"? Bumps. Yeah, I think a lot of it comes naturally from experience in being a live entertainer. But I also think she earnestly, cerebrally sees lulls coming in the vibe and plays that jester roll to... well... bump.

I was and am greatful for that but that love feels very different to the acceptance from people outside of your family when you are a people pleaser(me). Someone showing that they liked me when they had no obligation to would make me feel like i had value and that just caused me to try to make as many people like me as possible. In my mind making more people like me somehow equated to me being a more valuable person. Im still learning how to break that habit and am wishing the best for anyone else trying to as well

This video was like therapy for me. I struggle so much with people pleasing and changing myself to be what I think other people want. It's really nice hearing how Angela and Anthony have been addressing it in their own lives 🥹

i'm no theatre major or anything but angela's level of skill and dedication is always clear. also hugely agree on watching someone be human and make mistakes/learn/embarrass themself and gaining comfort from it !! angela is a crucial part of smosh for me and this vid made me feel so warm n fuzzy

I don't usually comment but I just wanted to say this: I stopped watching smosh around 2018 and came back last march because of one particular event that happened (because it went a little viral) and honestly, this is my favorite era of smosh, and Angela very much contributes to that.

28:16 this is such a good point Anthony, i feel like this sums up why I love the current Smosh. It feels like the internet is full of products that we get served or interact with everyday, and its refreshing to see people just hanging out and having a good time. Not saying well-produced stuff are not good, but it's almost like you have to watch it with a different mindset.

I watched Smosh back in the old days in high school when it was just Ian and Anthony, but came back in 2024 because Angela makes me smile and so happy.

This was such a beautiful interview. I love it when I get a peek at the raw, natural version of the cast and hear people like Angela talk genuinely about themselves. Angela is such a wonderful and talented individual and she is what fully brought me into Smosh and back to Starkid. She is so funny and engaging in videos, but I am so grateful when we see more of her insightfulness and perspective on life.

Angelas been one of the key reasons Ive been really getting into smosh for the last year. I never watched classic smosh or the in between era, Ive really only been a recent viewer but I absolutely love the current (and past) cast and I love how you all are so chill. No matter how shitty a day could have been angela and the rest of the smosh team really help to make sure I can take my mind of things at the end of the day

Angela, you nailed it. I think everything in life is about connection. I think every person finds joy in their work by the ways they can connect. The first time i saw anything of Smosh, the first thing that struck me, is how watching a group of people care about each other heals people. People who had crappy childhoods, dont have families, feel lonely, etc. Loneliness is a growing epidemic (in the US at least), and parasocial relationships can feel real strange, but I think there's some real value and more access than ever through youtube to experience healthier connection and information. Anyway, Angela, you seem like such a real one, and I think your craft is a changemaker. We are so encouraged to please others, especially when we have learning or neurological disorders. Thanks for being.

Angela as a fellow dyslexic I’m so happy you came on this. My coping mechanism is my humor, and my ability to not be embarrassed if I don’t spell something correctly. That use to kill a piece of my heart. Now I’m ok if I mess up the spelling of something. I LOVE YOU ANGELA!!!

I instantly felt like I saw myself in Angela and now I know why. This entire episode has made me think of how I need to start living for myself instead of being afraid to lose people who don't even make me feel good.

As an autistic person, I promise you that you made each and every day you when you visited with your uncle. Just by being there, sharing the day and not messing with the key parts of the routine like nitetime baseball. He was lucky to have you around and I am so glad that you also got enjoyment and something out of the visits and time with him as well.

"If you're not inventing Facebook, then what are you doing this afternoon?". That's a really good tidbit on how a lot of people feel the pressure to always be, like Angela said, not living in the present. Not just that quote of course; she was very insightful.

34:01 Correct. I have never physically ROFLOL’d so hard until Angela did that “damnshitfuck” cuss storm during Dread Smosh vs. Aliens. I could not breathe. Angela had so many bangers on that too. Not only is she an incredibly talented improvisor, she’s just a wonderfully genuine person. I’ve been a fan of her throughout Starkid, AOAOAOA, and now Smosh. She’s truly a comedy gem and Smosh chose right for keeping her.

I'm going to confess something. When Angela first joined Smosh, I wasn't a fan. The personality was too out there for me sometimes. But over time I've come to understand their style of comedy a lot better. This interview is especially helpful distinguishing on-screen Angela from real Angela. I've come around now and consider Angela as core to Smosh as Shayne. Great work Anthony!
@joevictor5318 күн бұрын
I felt the exact same way and I've seen others say this too. I didn't like her when I first saw her in videos. I thought she was being loud and annoying. Then as time went on, I started seeing her in a different way. I saw how funny she was. I saw how smart she was. I saw how sweet and caring she was. Plus I realised she was just unapologetically being herself. I'm autistic and I've trained myself to mask the real me for most of my life. It was refreshing to see someone not feel like they needed to cover up the parts of themselves that others might judge them for

Angela does make hilarious characters. the thing I enjoy about her on-screen persona the most isn't the wildness, but the way she hypes up the rest of the cast. From my perspective, she heightens the energy on set in a fun way.

I like Angela even more after this! Love that she's feels safe to show her learning disorder. It's so important for people to see people like them, especially someone that is so loved and doing great. This was very therapeutic for me. I need to have an abundance mindset. I've been struggling for many years with this. Thanks Anthony and Angela for having this amazing conversation and being vulnerable and posting to KZbin.

i related a lot to what angela said about people pleasing. as an artist myself i crave validation from everyone who perceives me, but ive only realized recently that i was so miserable trying to make sure everyone liked me and enjoyed my presence. there is so much freedom in living for yourself.
