When I was 15, I was diagnosed with Schizophrenia. When I was 12, I complained to my parents abt hallucinations and hearing things, random sickness, and horrible anxiety. It happened out of nowhere. My friend said that I have most “symptoms” of schizophrenia, and I begged my parents to get me tested. It took 3 YEARS of begging for them to cave in, and that’s because they were annoyed, and what do you know, I had it. I just wish that my parents would’ve listened because I spiraled into severe depression, PTSD, and anxiety. I’m never going to get those 3 years back, but parents, if your kids are complaining about something, please listen
@cheese.hamburger Жыл бұрын
Hello there Peyton. You and I may not know each other but I want you to know that you are one brave individual, and I respect you sooo much for acknowledging the fact that you are in distress. Sorry is just a word, but I’m so sorry that you had to live all these years with parents that didn’t provide a safe space for you since you were a child. They chose not to listen to you, they were always annoyed around you, nothing you did ever seemed to make them love you and you are filled with years of hurt and heartbreak. I want you to know that you are precious, you are important and it’s not your fault that your parents deprived you of love. You matter, you are worthy and nothing is wrong with you. Your parents are just taking out their anger on you for no reason. I hope you get the help that you long for and may you have a successful journey of healing from all the pain your parents caused you since you were a baby. Even if there were children at school who bullied you and teachers who humiliated you, please know that what they did to you was wrong and that you didn’t deserve it. Sending you lots of love and support ✨💝

Same happened to me once Family thought the medicine I was taking would make me grow boobs and be shorter etc cause it had steroids in it when I literally needed it to survive and ignored the doctors requesrs Eventually my body started “rotting” to the point where my arms and legs were so infected and riddled cuts and disease that they said if this continued, they’d just have to slowly start amputating me sinc ethe infections were spreading at a rate where I was losing the ability to move at all. Literally only through begging and pleading, did my folks finally cave. No kid wants to be a burden, but some of us sadly were perceptive enough to pick up on the fact that If we’re not vocal about what’s bugging us and enforce the change ourselves, no one will, because sometimes, no one’s coming to save you, even your parents. And that’s one of the most horrible realizations for a kid to face

I don't know if I have schizophrenia and I don't want to assume I do cuz......... self diagnoses isn't ever good. I just wanted to say what I experience and I want to know if I should talk to a doctor about it. It first started happening when I was 13 and I started developing depression and anxiety. This continued for a while and I struggled with self harm. I became very compulsive and would do things for reason's I didn't know or understood why I did it. I went to the doctor because my parents where worried about me. Later I ended up going to therapy and I figured out I was diagnosed with ADHD and clinical depression. I was prescribed medication but my parents wouldn't let me take them since they thought it was bad for me and how they have sorts of after affects so instead my parents would give me THC as a form of natural medicine. I never fully treated those things but this time it feels different. It isn't really like anything I felt before. I'm have problems remembering things, along with fully forming sentences like I can speak but my mind randomly goes blank. I see this misty sometimes and its like it is right there in my room. I see this figure of a man in the shadows. I always thought it was spirits or whatever. I tried to tell my mom but she just said some people have the minds eye. I don't see them all the time its sometimes and then they disappear then sometimes I see them again. It scares me. Then it has gotten worse where then I became extremely paranoid so much so to the point I always thought someone was out to get me and I had to leave my lights on at so I can see whoever comes into my room. I always am feeling paranoid. I hear this clicking noise and sometimes I feel like I hear someone whisper or say my name and I look around and I am all alone. I have also had experiences where I feel like someone is touching me yet I am alone. It is a very distinct feeling like someone is touching me to the point of if I were to touch myself in the same spot I couldn't tell a difference. I don't know if it is because I am stressed especially since I have been dealing with some major stuff recently or if it is part of my other mental stuff. I am currently 16. I know it isn't as extreme as people with diagnosed schizophrenia feel but is that normal? I know people with ADHD experience other stuff besides just constantly being fidgety, I wonder if it has something to do with that since paranoia is part of ADHD

It’s definitely unfortunate. People with schizophrenia are 3D just like everyone else. Their disorder is not all they are. When I was in the psych ward there were two ladies with schizophrenia and they were two of the sweetest people I have ever met. The ways their schizophrenia affected them was so different, even though both of them had hallucinations. The one saw demons all the time that said horrible things to her constantly, and she could only handle actually talking to people for a short time and then had to go pace the floor. The other one at one point vaulted over the staff counter because she thought she was in a Taco Bell and couldn't find her way out. She could carry on a conversation if you kept asking her questions. I sat and talked with her a lot because nobody else did.

As a schizophrenic myself it was nice to see this. When I told my class I had schizophrenia during the mental health class one of my classmates actually called campus police on me and then I got investigated which just absolutely destroyed me. Everyone looked at me as a normal person but they all changed when I said what I had. I personally hear a voice very rarely saying my name in my ear or I’ll hear a flood of voices like I’m in a crowded room. Let me tell you, not flinching while talking to a teacher and you hear your name being shouted in rage right in your ear is hard. I see shadow people or just a normal person but they usually disappear as soon as I see them. For the ones that don’t, if I’m at home, I just curl up, close my eyes, and hug myself because seeing it sends intense panic through me even if it’s not scary. I tell people what i have and if they really care for me as a friend they’ll stay. I do D&D with my friends and one mentioned how my new character was like a schizophrenic since they have a spirt friend that no one else can see when they stopped when they realized what they said and tried to apologize to me. Now, THIS IS NOT THE SAME FOR EVERYONE, but I completely do not mind jokes and I even make them myself with my knowing friends. I told them it was all good and the group of us when back and forward making jokes regarding the topic. I personally like this because it shows me that people aren’t afraid or restricted for what they can say to me. We’re not psychos and killers like the tv makes us out to be, just people living as normal lives as they can day by day. Don’t be afraid and instead try to understand what kind of a package deal we are. That’s it for my rant. Stay safe and I love you all ❤️

I work in an acute psychiatric ward. I have also done a clinical psychology degree and masters. The reality is a lot different than what is taught in lectures and in books etc. I think you really have to see and work with people with complex conditions like schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder and personality disorders. It can be really really hard, especially when people are self-harming, head-banging, ligating, but it’s really lovely to help people, even if it’s just helping them get out of bed and to have a walk around the ward. Could talk all day about it! The stigma against mental illness is slowly decreasing, but I think the general public need to be educated on more than just Anxiety and Depression and there’s so many more mental illnesses out there that drastically affect people’s lives.

Shortly after my sister turned 18 she had a mental breakdown/psychotic break which was around the same time my mother first had hers. Growing up we didn’t know about it, the family tried to keep it secret. We, being my siblings and I always knew mom was special/different but we didn’t learn why and how till not too long ago. My grandpa had electric shock therapy and no one talks about it and apparently all of my great aunts, grandpas sisters are on meds but again, no one talks about it. Mental health should definitely be normalized and talked about at a younger age because when my mom was hallucinating and I didn’t understand why she’d do the things she’d do, it was scary. When she she walked out in the middle of the street in broad daylight to look at the starfish in the sky, when she wouldn’t sleep for 3 days straight and think everyone was out to get her. When she’d talk to people that weren’t there... yeah it was scary. I was in a relationship for almost two years, and me and my ex-boyfriend hadn’t met in person until we decided to try living together. We were so committed to making everything work with our financial situations. But when I met him in person, I kept noticing that he would often “tune out”. He would say to me while we were walking “why are those girls laughing at me?” When we hadn’t passed anyone. He told me there were ghosts that he saw in our apartment. He had times where he was paranoid about the food he ate. And then he had a seizure. It was a focal seizure. He sat and rocked back and forth and whispered things over and over, walked around the apartment. I almost wanted to take him to the emergency room but with covid I knew I couldn’t. I looked up online the symptoms of schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder, and saw all of the similarities he had with it. I also saw that people with these disorders are more likely to have epileptic episodes. I was so distraught, but I had to make him move back in with his loving father, who I knew could take care of him better than a college girl could. He had no idea he was suffering so much. I wish I could’ve helped. But after seeing this video I feel firm in my belief that he can recover and hopefully live a more normal life someday. Even if it isn’t with me.

The CPS system is so broken, I’m sure your girlfriend is lovely and does her job correctly but the idea of a entire video dedicated to praising CPS and CPS workers would be revolting to watch as someone who grew up in the system and was taken advantage of by multiple CPS workers, and have heard hundreds of story’s of abuse and lack of empathy or care from other Forster children experienced from their case workers. If the video showed the good (like perhaps people like your girlfriend) but also exposing the true evil that can occur in the system, I would be pleased as would many other foster care survivors.

Oh and she tried to adopt my sisters and I to a legit pedophile before my mom even had her trial for her parental rights. That dude stalked my fb page for years to figure out if my sister, who was only 8 at the time, had "grown up" enough for fb and then pressured her to meet up with him despite being back in my mom's care because he thought they, and I quote, "had a close relationship" we met the guy like 3 times, one of which was an over night visit that we all hated and stuck around each other during.

@@Destinyisforlosers24 you’re right !! as an ex-foster child, the idea of a video created to praise people who left me with abusive foster parents (until i was nearly adopted by them) and then dropped my case as soon as my mother was out of the hospital (directly after a psychotic episode that got her sectioned) makes me hella uncomfy. this isn’t a slight against everybody in the system but there are far too many people who were harmed by it for it to be done justice in my opinion

We always talk about how good at this Anthony is, but like, he REALLY is. He's not only super respectful and open-minded, (which should be normal human behavior and should be normalized, not something to be amazed at) but he also knows perfectly how to be completely serious about something, yet still realize when it's okay to laugh or joke around to make his guests feel comfortable and not like they are in a test to just answer questions because they aren't humans that can talk about their situation or that they are victims to feel pity for. It makes them feel like they're just talking to a friend, but while still maintaining the respectful boundaries of interviewer-interviewed. And so it doesn't feel like a making fun of type of video, it still feels like a very serious interview about a very serious topic, but it isn't boring or uncomfortable for the guests and the viewers. It makes the interviewed there look like real people who just happen to be talking about an aspect in their life, and not just >the schizophrenic< or any other thing.

My ex was diagnosed at 4 years old, I wasn't diagnosed until I was 17 years old and I still have to defend my diagnosis because people have a distorted opinion of what it means and is like to have adhd.

For anyone dealing with this awful disease, I want to share a happy story with you all.. I had schizophrenia for 17 years. I had my first symptoms when I was 11 years old. I started hearing voices. I was struggling with alot of things, and soon after that I started seeing things. I was depressed, bullied, got an eating disorder. I started feeling things. Someone touching me.. I remember how I would be sitting infront of my computer and I would feel someone grabbing my arm. I would turn around and usually I would see this family - Mum, dad and a kid. All dead.. It was so scary!! In my teenage years I got in and out of the psychiatric ward. I saw all kind of things, shadows following me, birds, people that weren’t there. I started smelling this very specific scent. I could also taste it. I had voices in my head constantly. I thought people could hear what I was thinking. I was sure that there was camera’s in my entire home, spying on me. When I was outside I was sure someone was following me. I struggled with really bad anxiety, self harm, depression, anorexia, ocd behavior. I tried to take my own life. It was bad. When I was 17 I had to live at this place for mentally ill people. I stayed there for 8 months and left even more sick. Straight back to the psychiatric ward. 4 months later I was moved to a new place. My parents were told that I was extremely sick, and so sick I would have to live at a place like that for my entire life. I wouldn’t ever be able to live a normal life. At 20 I moved into my first apartment. I was still very sick, but I was a little better. I started having talks with a woman at the psychiatry and started new medication. This worked very well! All my psychotic things stopped! And I started working super hard with all my issues (also the things next to my schizophrenia of course) I am 28 today. About 4 months ago I was told that I no longer have schizophrenia. I NEVER thought this would happen!! I believe they say there’s a 25% chance for recovery. And I am one of them.. For about 6 years I was on a very very low dose of my medication. A little over a year ago I completely stopped taking it - I haven’t had any symptoms. This is a disease that kills people. This is a disease that is SO missunderstood. You hear about it in movies and series - Killers, psychos.. We are not. But we are being tormented by our own head, and it is awful. It is so so hard. I wish for everyone with this illness all the best. I know it might look hopeless, like it won’t ever get better. Trust me, I have been there. Now I am here and so happy that my suicide attempt failed. It will get better ❤️ You’ve got this. Find the right medication, find someone professional to talk to. Get help, work with yourself as hard as you can. You can do this!!

It's always good to be understood. I feel you, I've relate to the people in this video on a very high level, but when I tell one of my very few friends that I'm scared of something that I know can't possibly be there, they just tell me I'm overreacting, which does NOT help at all

Don’t worry you can get through it we all wish you the best

Hey buddy, you’re going to be ok. I know it’s hard too, I know it’s scary, I know it’s confusing and I understand. You’re going to get through this, you’re going to be ok, and you’re doing a great job at just being you.

My brother has schizophrenia, we are one year apart so growing up I always felt like he was also my friend, I always thought everything he did was just who he was I never thought too much about it until he turned 20 and everything changed. Everything he was saying wasn’t making sense. It honestly felt like I lost my brother, he’s physically with me but mentally he’s in another world. It breaks my heart.

I have never connected so much with a comment before. It feels nice to actually understand you so much. I just feel so bad for you. My mom's case of schizophrenia is getting so much worse and worse and everyone is just coming to terms that she's not "her" anymore. It's so heartbreaking to have a loved one seem distant yet so alive. Keep strong!

I’m sorry to hear that…can relate to that like my dad has schizophrenia and sadly I can’t ever see or talk to him anymore 😢

@@trumoo4931 That's what happened to my mom when I was 12 in 2012. I "lost" her for several years. It was devasting and truly a grieving process. However she did end up in a psychiatric hospital; she was there for two years and subsequently put on medication. It's 10 years later and after years of psychosis, treatment, and trying out medications, only just recently do I feel like I've gotten my mother back. It takes time, but it can happen. You may see your mother again one day, and it's worth it. I'm so sorry that you and your family are going through this. 💔

Sorry to hear that. Although he may be different, it's still him, with the right treatment hopefully him and your family can find calm.

Just know his feelings are the same as they were before, he hears you even if he's not there mentally yet. Though, I'm saying this personally... I was that lost boy too. I spent nearly five years apart from the shared consensus of reality. I promise you, your brother is making his way back, every day he's trying, just as much as you are. He will return ❤️
