I don’t mean to scare anybody off but I have lived in Lewiston all of my life, and there have been some cougar and wolf sightings within a 15 minute drive of Lewiston in the past couple years, and there is about a solid week of 100+ degree weather, but other that that it is a great place to live, and is a lot of fun.
@mikecrooks80858 ай бұрын
We have had Cougars within town and wolves and tracks are seen in the canyon between the Orchards and downtown. There have been Moose and Elk within the city limits. Rattlers are common in areas with Basalt rocks. I have seen black bear scat within a couple miles of town. Sorry but I have seen summers with as few as a single 100+ degree day. A couple years ago we had a full months worth of 100+ degree days and these were recorded at our 1300 foot elevation airport where the temperatures run 5 degrees cooler than downtown. A couple years ago, we had a day in June where the temp downtown was, no kidding, pushing 120 degrees (June 21, 2021) . Winters are mild by northwest standards and people golf year round here except during the couple cold snaps we get every winter. The population of the three cities of Lewiston, Clarkston, Asotin, the Clarkston Heights and the surrounding couple of miles around the city is close to 60,000. The Lewis Clark valley is big into manufacturing. The biggest employers, not necessarily in order, Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Clearwater Paper, Potlatch Corp, Clearwater Casino, Guns and Ammo production by: CCI Cascade Cartridge Inc, Seekins Precision, P Kay metals, and various Jet Boat manufactures, 2 regional hospitals, Lewis clark College and Walla Wall Community College. There are Two mid-size University's 25 miles north of town that also employ many Lewiston residents. Property crime is lower in Lewiston than most places but when it does happen it is reported at much higher rate. Property crime is highly frowned upon and done at great risk and Lewiston Idaho is often listed as the Highest or near highest legal gun owning rate in the nation.

I grew up in the LC Valley then moved away in my late 20’s. I moved to southern Idaho, then to the Boise Idaho area. I moved back to the area-ish. The biggest thing I would say Lewiston/ Clarkston is missing is the fact that this area does NOT have a lot to do for children. There is the aquatic center in Clarkston for the summer times but there are no places for children to go learn art, music, cooking/baking, indoor “playgrounds” and so on. There are a couple good parks, there is a skate park, but if you’re looking for activities that teach it’s a no go. Growing up in the area, it was the same as now……not top notch for kiddos. It seems to be more of a retirement, college town than anything, as it offers more for those age ranges than others. It would be great if they would even put a toy store in the valley for kids instead of just the Walmart Clarkston offers (because not everyone wants to shop at Walmart.) I prefer to order online from outside areas than to shop at the Walmart (for personal reasons.) I hope this helps others that have kiddos and more insight from a person that grew up in the valley.

The LC valley has been home for my family for 3 generations. My wife's is from this area as well. We retired to here. No Target (One in Moscow). BTW I have seen deer wandering around the town. I live close to Pioneer Park. When I was looking for a house I was told to look at Clarkston. I told the person "If I wanted to live in Clarkston I would stay in California." There are some good industries here CCI/Speer, the hospitals, Clearwater Paper, and SEL. Lewiston has not changed a whole lot since I left. That is why it is home. Good Video.....

Great video...I'm driving over next week to meet a realtor that is for a homebuilder because I may start working for them as a project manager if the meetings go good. Lewiston is the place I have been looking to move to after tons of research. I've lived entire life (49 years) in Washington. It's time to find freedom and good ol down to earth people. I graduated from a small town high school, married my high school girl. 2 kids 17/13...we waited to have kids financially late in life. For now it may be a rental look or a trailer buy to get myself started over there then the family comes after I get things established. Within a year, sell my Washington home and buy minimum 5 acre lot and build my home. I'm a blue collar worker by trade and now in construction management. This family will not bring Washington BS as we have tried long enough to vote and save it here but we just cant win. My daughter will graduate this next session at private Christian school with her classmates then the family should move over. If everything goes good this is our plan. Thank you on all your videos as I have started watching a lot of them this last couple weeks.

most businesses are on Thain road and it's horrible and usually traffic heavy and if you drive a standard it can be a challenge. The hills are nude of trees, in the spring they are green but come summer it all dies so you see nothing but ugly brown. clearwater paper pays good if you can handle high heat and humidity and noise otherwise not many many businesses there that pay well. If you like snow you won't see much here but you can expect very hot dry summers usually 100+ even up to 110 and beyond As for the mill I can say it smells like cooking cabbage but in recent years they have updated the smoke stacks so it does not smell as bad now as it did 10 years ago. when I lived there in 2005 downtown hit around 116F, even the orchards was 110F, being a valley that heat just stays and with no breeze the nights are even hot.

In 2010, through my own stupidity, I found myself out of work. I left a place I had been at 15 years for “greener pastures” in the fresh water treatment biz. Lewiston was hiring for water treatment Plant operator. They had a operator transfer to another department to replace someone that retired from the supervisor position. The operator I replaced is a GREAT guy. The person that was a tech in the department, thought that THEY were going to get a promotion. Well they didn’t and they started a lawsuit for the position. They made their new bosses life a living hell. It was not explained to me that there was a pending lawsuit that could affect my position. I moved up to Lewiston, started my job, got along with all the other operators well(except for one guy, there’s always one….but he was easily avoided). When I walked through the doors, I was introduced to my boss and co workers. I was introduced as someone that had eighteen years as a treatment plant operator. I could see eyes rolling……. My first words were “I am experienced, yes, but, PLEASE,treat me like I don’t know a thing. I don’t know your plant or how you do things.” I let the operators train me. I just kept my mouth closed and followed their instructions. They liked the fact that they only had to show me once how to do things. After three months I found out about the lawsuit. The person that filed it won. The guy I replaced wanted to come back to work the treatment plant. There was no way he would work for the lawsuit winner. I was taken out of the water plant and put in as the tech of the other position. I was told I would be trained in my new position. Longer story short…… I had to train myself with school books. The new boss told me they didn’t want me there and would not train me after day two. They made MY life a living hell by going to city hall and bad mouthing me….. unknown to me. They let me go. I LOVED living in Lewiston! Everything mentioned in the video is true. It’s a great town. I loved the small town feel. The simple things to do. I rode my motorcycle on the old spiral highway frequently. Went to Orofino a lot, it is beautiful! The restaurants were good(although I could only find Kungpow chicken the way I like it with the thi chilis at Panda Express! AND every time I ordered it I was cautioned about how hot it is.😂 Moscow, being a college town, is the one dark blue area there, BUT the people, even when finding out how conservative I am were VERY nice and kind. I now live in Hope, but if I somehow ended up back in Lewiston(I have no plans to I assure you)I would not be disappointed.

@LLNI: Millions of illegal aliens crossing the southern border (don't call it an invasion tho); committing rape & murder and undercutting middle-class Americans' jobs & wages. And given free housing & healthcare costing working taxpayers untold millions (billions?) Shopping store aisle signs written in Mexican & "Presione uno para español" every business phone call made; but at least we're not, "Sprechen Sie Deutsch" I guess. Not to mention, in Germany then, men didn't wear dresses & go into womens' bathrooms. Little kids weren't sexualized - girls told they were boys & vice versa. Speaking of children, German schools didn't have to have cops ("school resource officers") guarding the entrance & hallways. I'm betting you think this comment racist, too; but are any of the points listed inaccurate? You seem like a good guy but it's way past time worn out "Nazi"-isms used to virtue signal, just saying ...

Shopping sucks - you'll go to Moscow or Spokane more often than you plan to. Someone lied to you. There's also bear right up in the Orchards, I've seen them from the CCI plant up by the airport, and plenty of cougar and coyote. Don't know where you got the whole "Fewer Predators" info, but it's incorrect. MORE predators than CDA. And closer to town. Lewiston is quirky, don't kid yourself. "Valley born and bred" is a saying. Can be very insulated down in that hole, but getting better. I moved back to PF and am very glad I did. Some very odd characters there mostly (I think) because it was so affordable for so long. A lot of people who have family roots generations back who think they own the place. Oldest county (demographically) in Idaho too except for one tiny county down south. Lots and lots of old people. Best restaurants: Tomato Brothers, Waffles n More, Fazzaris. Used to be awesome for blue collar workers though, one of the last places in the country you could truly make a working class pay into a decent life. CCI/Speer, Clearwater Paper, SEL now, various boat builders, etc. kept wages high relative to cost of living. I bought a small house there in 2013 for 85k. Those days are long gone. Real estate is weird there. The farmers keep the huge housing tracts you see in other parts of Idaho from becoming a thing. Those farmers aren't selling. That means when the market heats up, there's just no inventory of homes. You can see situations when there are more real estate agents than listings in the Valley, literally. Don't buy at that time - LOL.

You are crazy saying it doesn’t get to 100 F often. I used to work there and there were days when I left work I could not get my 1st breath it was so hot. Summers are VERY hot!!!!! Luckily I lived on the Camas Prairie where it was 10 to 15 degrees cooler. If you don’t like upper 90s and lower 100s, don’t move to Lewiston. On the other hand it rarely snows in winter.

Nice, I look for a place like this, I have 5 more questions: Do they have gyms? You mentioned the accessibility from Boise, but what about Spokane? It's also a major city in the area. If you need a police officer, are they friendly and are respond times adequate? What about dating or meeting new acquaintances? And at last, is the mormon influence feelable? Because I'm an atheist & don't want preachers at my door every day.
@accudave4 ай бұрын
There are probably a dozen different gyms in the LC Valley. Spokane is 90 miles away a 2 hr. drive. There are lots of police: Idaho State Police has an office there, also County, City and Tribal police. They are friendly and professional. People drive slow there. It's not unusual to see people driving 15 under the limit. Marijuana is illegal in Idaho, but legal on the other side of town across the river in Clarkston. People are friendly. There is quite a religious mix compared to other areas in Idaho. There are about a dozen Mormon missionaries assigned to the Lewiston area at any given time, one set per ~10,000 people. 5% of the population is Mormon compared to 27% for the whole State of Idaho.

Your part on the weather wasn't accurate at all. I've lived here now for over 7 years and it's hotter than hell in the Summer here. A couple of Summers ago and pretty much the entire month of June was over 100 degrees. We are lucky to have Summer days in the 80s. I've seen it over 110 degrees here many times over the last 7 Summers. Highest I've seen is 117.
