I retired 2 1/2 years ago I had a home built in the mountains in Rathdrum I’ve never been to Idaho I came from Northern California I came here because people love God, guns, and the American Flag. I came here for the peace, people ask me if I like it here and, I say no I love it here, I love everything that you said in your monologue the 12 reasons why people should move here are the 12 reasons why I love being here I accidentally stumbled onto your KZbin channel I love your attitude I love how you talk real and if anybody reads this give this man your business because I know from my heart and my experiences in life that he speaks from his heart. It's hard to stop growth, it brings with it both benefits and cons. A lot of the benefits are for the generation that is NOT you. Boomers are the "me" generation (aka locust generation), its all about themselves, which is why there tends to be a lot of anger towards the Boomers with their Boomer mentality. You don't realize that a new generation is entering the housing market, which is partially why the housing prices are so high. In the cities, you can't even afford a house anymore because the Boomers who bought them much earlier in their lives wanted to enrich themselves by raising property values as it was their primary investment for their retirements. They did not care about the side effects, or about the next generation. So you have this new generation of home buyers priced out of their home towns which have no choice but to look elsewhere. This creates demand and if the supply is low, what do you think is going to happen? Its not that the locals that can afford anything, but more so that no one can afford anything in the USA, which is spurring migration to new areas. One group has to move, so will another. Its not a one sided affair. A lot of people coming in don't like the fact they feel forced to do so, for both financial and political reasons. At least one benefit of the change is that wages are going up, and they will have to go up...especially with inflation.

Volunteerism is a thing here also. There are Volunteer EMT's, and Volunteer Fire Departments. People in Idaho do these things into senior ages, because they feel they need to give something to their communities. It is a form of patriotism. It was a gem when I lived their, visited after all that time a few yrs back, felt like I finally came back home but was very disappointed at the same time with all the lake front homes and condo's. The small farm fields are now all filled with cookie cutter home's, fenced off areas where we use to walk through or play at, lumber mill on the Spokane River has been replaced with condo's, just ashame that development and political agendas are slowly killing it there.

@@_Hound_ As far as Climate it gets much colder in both places than anywhere in the Central Valley. Politically the same. Much more Conservative. Think Clovis on steroids but Boise is a turning a bit more liberal because of a the people from the Blue States. The prices are going up on housing here Coeur d'Alene Median price for home $524,000 up over 40% in a year. Boise Area is around 400, 000 to 500,000 all due to the influx of people of people from Blue States. The problem is there are no jobs to pay for that kind of price for a house price like that and the locals are a little PO'ed about it. I am lucky, I moved here almost 2 years ago and got a house in a decent area for less than 200,000. I took a lot of crap about being from CA (Get Idaho plates and Idaho DL ASAP). I moved to Id. 22 yrs. ago from Tx. I live in the mtns. 60 mi. north of Boise. Truthfully, snow in the mtns. causes deer & elk to come down into Boise. At least once or twice during each winter there will be news reports of a mtn. lion sighted in Boise. They follow the deer. I can remember one time when a moose came down into Boise & Fish & Game darted it. They trailered it up north for release. One night driving home from work in Boise around midnight, I drove past a black bear sow on the highway between the jersey barriers. I turned around & drove back up the pass to look. Turns out that she couldn't figure how to get her 6 mos. old cub over the barriers. I had taken an adult ed. class on black bear rehab. The sow took off & that's when I saw her cub. It had been hit by a car & broken it's frt. leg. I got a blanket out & wrapped it up. I called the black bear rehab "lady" & she sent me to a 24 hr. vet. clinic that could treat the cub. This is where I'm supposed to say , "Don't do this if you aren't experienced handling wildlife." We released the cub the next fall. By the way, it crapped in the back of my SUV. Also remember if you have small dogs to keep an eye out for eagles. My 1st trip to the vet. after moving here, I got the word about protecting my dogs from all of the predators. In the winter some mos., I have to shovel & blow snow for up to 3 hrs. every other day. I generally have around 3' - 4' of snow on my lawn all winter. I wouldn't live anywhere else. It's the price you pay for living in Idaho!

@@renaelindstrom6791 Oh no, she never asked for a dime! I found out during discussions with her that the average cost per bear rehabbed was I believe $800 at the time. That's when I decided to try to raise enough $$$ for my cub, at least. She gave me a tour of her place yrs. ago. I think that at that time she was rehabbing coyotes & black bears. She rehabs the bears thru the summer & fall. If they are ready for release, they wait until they have hibernated at her facility. They have designated den sites in the Boise Nat. Forest & snowmobile the cubs in. They put 2 cubs in each den so that they don't wake up alone. I have an apple tree at my house & have taken apples to her for the bears, just leave them at her gate. I have seen wild bears up here in Garden Valley sitting under apple trees pigging out so I know that they like them.

After living my whole life in SoCal, upon retirement five and a half years ago, I moved to a smaller town in North Idaho. I absolutely love it here! After being here for only for two and a half years, the people in my town elected me to the city council. The biggest adjustment was dealing with the length of daylight hours during the wintertime. I was pretty miserable that first winter. The next summer, someone turned me onto vitamin D and it has made the world of difference. Still don't like the short hours, but at least they are now tolerable. Sadly, my lady friend will not be moving to North Idaho, specifically for some of the reasons you list, (e.g., politics). Try it but staying in for 3-5 months a year might change your mind lack of Vit D and brown people need more vitD and it is harder for them to absorb I'm assuming you have brown skin of course. I would love to live in Texas but my hub is not the type to move. Next thing I would say. If you move to I hope family and long time friends move with you because connection is harder to do when you are not in HS and college. Damily and those people become long term friends. I meet people who have moved without that and when they get talking they are like the roadrunner from not having thos close connections any longer in an everyday in person relationship. They try and fill with school and hobbies and farming and it doesn't fill it. Moving from family and friends and a year round out door life. If you don't do snowmobiling... everywhere like Utah and up can spiral people into depression. you need sun lights usually and vit d supplements. then if you move then as they get older they need to be in a more hardy place for their bodies. So move a gain and re establish friendships? and so many people are lonely. Unless you have family... Leaving in these places can be lonely as everyone is hanging with their own.

Maybe it's because what we have here in Idaho really is a "one of a kind", to come here to want to change and become a part of that is great. To come here not wanting to change but to bring about change is to "become like all the rest".

As someone who has visited CDA several times, your videos are very informative and entertaining! One question for you, could you possibly do a video on what the town is like in the winter? The summer has great weather and with that comes a lot of time with outdoor activities. That being said, when the cold weather comes, what is the town like? Are coffee shops, bars, restaurants, and retail shops still open for normal hours, or are they abbreviated? Is downtown as lively as it during the summer? Are there any sort of community events? It sounds like skiing/snowboarding is the go to winter activity, but what else do the locals enjoy during the winter? Just a thought for a video, keep up the good work!

Where i live, we get a lot of North Idaho transplants........95% of them moved because they were sick of the snow and ice. Personally, I miss white Christmases in Hayden Lake. I can not believe how huge it's gotten. I remember it before Templins built the resort in Post Falls. Post Falls was basically a bar, a gas station, a small store, and of course, the mill. My grandparents families were sort of Post Falls pioneers. They had orchards and alfalfa fields along the river. God how I miss it.

The only thing I dont like is all the move in lol. I moved to Boise 11 years ago from Wyoming which isn't a big difference other than population and the one thing I absolutely loved about it was one the weather. I was used to some pretty short seasons where I came from in Wyoming so Treasure Valley winters are much milder but I really loved the people here. Coming from a small town in Wyoming I appreciated the home town feel with the conveniences of the city. I also lived in Meridian for 5 years loved again great people. But three years ago we left the city and moved out to the farm country. The people started to flood the cities and it became unfamiliar and crowded. I love people but please dont come here and try and change it. Much love to all trying to find your place in the world but definitely share this video. Great video!

My wife's Aunt and Uncle lived on a farm near Nezperce, Idaho. Over the last 40 years we'd make almost yearly trips to visit them. I really loved that area. The small towns were charming and the people were warm and friendly. Even the mini day trips to different spots were lots of fun and beautiful. While I'm retired now, we couldn't move to Idaho, because we wanted to be an easy drive from our grandkids. So the compromise is we live in Carson City, NV. It's not exactly Idaho, but 1,000,000 times better than Los Angeles, California and has many of the things that made Idaho so wonderful.

Okay let's discuss a few things. I was born here in Coeur d'Alene Idaho my mom is from Bonners ferry Idaho. The people that have the big jacked up trucks with the big wheels and the exhaust that puts out all the black smoke are from California trying to show off. If you actually happen to come across an idahoan who's born and raised here you'll find that the biggest truck they own is an F-350 stock nothing Fancy on it my brother and I I'll own f-150s stock yeah there four wheel drive but also keep in mind that four-wheel drive only gets you somewhere where you're not supposed to be. Bears will not come out and tag you for no reason they usually have lots of warning signs and lots of signs around the area. And the whole thing of it taking a while to get off the stoplight you got to remember there's still some people here rocking a stick shift. For those of you who don't know what that is that's a manual transmission meaning that we have three pedals that we have to use and it takes skill. Up in Bonners ferry my grandma and grandpa had a 2460 acre ranch. And all of the 40 years that I spent up there going up there spending time up there I only saw one bear. Only heard one wolf you have to remember that there are certain warning signs that you will run into when you are hiking stuff like swipes on trees smell and also dead carcasses in the area. It is very hard just to walk in on something. I will agree with this gentleman on one thing though it is very hard to get us to change the reason why it's hard to get us to change as we know what works here we know it's safe we know how to look at our surroundings.

Especially when they’re at stop lights.... the light will turn green and they just sit there looking around before they notice and go on the yellow, leaving everyone behind them delightfully waiting out another red light. This happened to me last year, I bopped my horn and everyone around me gave me dirty looks and the guy behind me flipped me off. And they all drive 10 mph under the speed limit, no matter what.

Moved from Sacramento area California to Idaho Falls 16 years ago to raise our kids and it was the best decision for us for that season in our lives! Great place to raise kids. Lots of things we loved about Idaho, mostly the community, the access to nature, lack of traffic, etc. Ours are just about grown now so we moved down south in anticipation of kids going off to college and needing a bit “more” as young adults, and our heading into a season where we wanted to start a farm and get more land (land is very expensive there due to the majority of the state being public/National forest). The winters were the absolute worst thing about Idaho for me, and I’m not talking about the snow. I’m talking about the COLD and the unrelenting wind. I’m also talking about the length of it-6 to 7 months out of the year everything is dormant and frozen. It’s well over half of the year. Dreaming of throwing the football around with family on Thanksgiving? Not a chance! It’s winter by then. Thinking about a cute Easter dress and green grass for Easter Sunday? NOPE. There were years we just threw uncolored white eggs out into the snow and said go get em’ girls!! 🤣 Trees start turning in August and the snow starts falling in October-sprinklers are blown out in September, and nothing is green again until mid-May. Can’t plant anything in the ground until June 1st, period. It snowed like crazy Memorial Day weekend 2020. Personally I LOVE the outdoors and nature…but I’m cold blooded and literally refused to step foot outside over half the year because it was just too cold for me. So that part is deceptive-people always say if you love the outdoors you’ll love it in Idaho! But what they fail to mention is that half the year with wind chill it’s just about freezing all the time and everything is either white, gray or brown. Well of course you have the evergreens. It’s like a Christmas card in December, if you get a White Christmas which the last couple of years we didn’t because the water and snow pack is dwindling, but that doesn’t change the cold season. Idaho is going to experience similar water and fire issues as their neighboring states very soon sadly :(. The last few summers as soon as it got warm which I waited all year for, the smoke filled the skies to where we couldn’t go out. Idaho is probably just as extreme as some places in Alaska. And it’s DRY. Like so dry the air sucks the life out of you, you have to drink extra water and gallons of lotion to keep your skin from splitting open. It’s a unique place!

And sadly I'm seeing my beloved state filling up so fast, that houses can't be built fast enough. What's wild is how quickly it all happened too. People made fun of Idaho before 2020, thinking it was the land of potatoes and hicks. But now Idaho is the "in" place to move, and it's unfortunately made life more difficult for those of us that have always been here. Housing doubled or tripled, traffic is now a nightmare, and it does seem to foster some legitimate resentment towards the out-of-towners. I don't get as upset anymore, just because I would rather focus my energy on more important things than bitterness. Yes, Idaho is great...until those with more money push you out, and then it's just frustrating and sad.

But salaries here are horrible and cannot pay for houses in the mid 500s and above. So all of you who move here please give thought to how you are destroying Idaho for natives and long-term residents. But I know you won’t - you don’t care. @@laura-zu4yz If they still allowed slash burning there wouldn't be such huge fires. Loggers used to pile all the slash and burn it through the rainy seasons. They were comtrolled burns in a safe season. The rain and winter winds kept the smoke down and from collecting in stagnent areas. That was good forest mamagement. Now instead they let huge amounts of slash lie on the ground and the fires are so hot in it that it is easy to catch the trees on fire. Green wood is not easy to burn without dry tender. But the snivelers that didn't like the minimal smoke smell from the slash burns sniveled until they got their way. Now look what happens when fires start. When it comes to managing something as huge as the massive forests in the PNW, the old ways are still the best, and the snivelers need to shut TF up. Its as if they never considered the trade off that would occur until we don't have any forests left to burn. Then it will be too late. There is a cycle in the forests and it includes fire. Either we do it controlled, or we continue to let wildfires destroy everything until there is no beauty left. Which will also kill the rain cycle and the oxygen cycle. A lot of Californians wanted to keep CA Californian, but that did not stop the left from importing millions of foreigners who simply do not belong there. Illegal immigrants flooded the place with the help from the left (treason?). Now CA is not longer CA, its something else. When one state is invaded and subverted, it would be naive to think surrounding states would not be effected.

I've lived in a lot of different places around this country, and traveled to a lot more on business. If you are expecting a SoCal "Valley" lifestyle don't move here. If you love a mix of city, farm, & country. Great place, you will LOVE it here. Taxes are about neutral, but you seem to get more for what you pay your taxes for here. Finally if you are a big "BLUE" person, and I don't mean a BYU fan, check you "Blue" at the state line. Finally, this isn't where you moved from, that is what make it great. So don' try to make it the mess you moved from.

Yeah its terrible the we blue states have the best universities..best medical care...highest paying jobs...most educated population....lowest infant mortality.rate...culture and the arts and actual diversity of thought and people...plus the fact that we in the blue states "carry" all you red welfare states! My moms side of the family moved to Idaho in the 60’s, the cold winters and small town is why my mother passed on living in Idaho. Lots of my family bought affordable housing, dirt cheap compared to California.

I know you're sincere for 2 reasons. 1, you could easily profit off of people moving here, only to hate it and leave. That gives you 2 house sales. But you clearly want people to know what they're getting themselves into so they love where they move, and you've made only one house sale. 2, most of what you've said about living in Idaho is so very accurate. I do want you to spend some time in the Idaho Falls area, though, and see what you think of the drivers here. I find that they're mostly courteous, respectful, and safe, except for a few bad ones here and there. The driving you describe up there sounds very different from here. I love living here for many of the reasons you describe, and I don't mind snow. I moved here nearly 3 years ago, and I love it here!

@@LivingLifeNorthIdaho Driggs! It's about an hour from Idaho Falls, and the drive there is wonderful because of the vast farmland and views of the Teton Mountains! Palisades Reservoir, BYU-I, Island Park, Lava Hot Springs, INL, Craters of the Moon, Civil Defense Cave, Yellowstone Bear World, and lots of hiking trails; some easy, some hard. Idaho Falls itself is great because even though it's a small city, it has most of the stores you need, lots of restaurants, and it's not overly crowded, yet. Just don't move here unless you like snow falling sideways 7 months out of the year! It snowed yesterday on Mother's Day! Unfortunately, there is a huge housing boom now, and this will eventually ruin this part of Idaho.

Idahoans are fiercely independent. Love guns, to hunt big game and eat natural organic meet. Idaho has too much freedom. If your sensitive, want govt assistance, or feelings get easily hurt, Idaho is not for you.

LA is just going to keep getting worse. When I left, the homeless encampments, human trafficking and cartel violence was everywhere. One house nearby had become a drug den with BLM posters plastered all over it. Thankfully remote work has become normal, or else escaping from that S hole would be even harder.

We moved to CDA 8 years ago and love the area. After about 5 years in CDA we felt crowded and moved just north of Rathdrum on 5 acres. North Idaho is getting very crowded and extremely expensive. Before moving here please realize he's not kidding about what he says. It is very dark here in the winter, cold and short days are the norm. Icy roads come with that and you will be driving to get anywhere. People that move here think they are conservative but are really just right of center. North Idaho is very conservative. If you don't like outdoors and wildlife there is not a lot to do in N Idaho. Everything is changing with the huge amount of people moving here and the locals hate it. Please don't move here and wish you had what you left behind.

I'm from California looking to move to Idaho in the next 2 years. Believe me, I'm not leaving a blue state wanting to go to another blue state. I've had enough of that. @Nun of the Above That might be True in any normal time frame but right now things are hideous in CA and many many people are moving out. I also know a handful of people who have left California in the past and then came back. Half the time it's because of the weather. There is no weather in California So you don't have to worry about a lot of things on this side. Yeah I might move back one day when everyone get their tish together, but I'm more focused on leaving right now lol.

@Nun of the Above California is politically in the dumps compared to how it used to be. Yes other places are worse but that doesn't mean California is "good". I.E. just because your father beat you and mine verbally abused me doesn't mean any one is better than the other. Maybe not a "mass exodus" per se, but it is statistically true that more people are moving of the state than into it, especially in the last 1.5 years. Most of the time people move to ca/move back because of the weather and the landscape. Atleast that's been everyone who I've known.
