My buddy and I flew out for the event from California and Washington. 100% worth it. The whiskey was great, the cigars were great, the people were awesome, and it was so much fun talking to the distillery guys in the VIP area. I spent quite some time with the guys from The Bond and was pretty impressed with their stuff. We totally fell for the charm of AL and are ready to come back for the next Fest. Huge thanks for all you guys do, Tj. It was great meeting you.

Just found my first bottle of blantons ever since keeping an eye open the past couple years thanks to your channel; and for $70 in CA I’m STOKED.! Having a pour, and wishing I was closer and could’ve made it. This looks like a hoot! 🥃(this blanton’s is delicious. Haven’t had anything buffalo trace in a while and this is hitting the spot 😋)

Knowing TJ isn't a fan of Scotch, that last tasting session I felt bad for that guy. I've been delving into Scotch for awhile now, brands like Ardbeg has been my go to, and I totally get that band-aid tasting note with many of them, but the adventure is still fun trying all of it, and discovering the depth that's there. I hope to be able to attend one of these in the future, definitely looks like a good time.

Hate to be that guy, but I know if TJ is talking down his own whiskey this much that it had to be pretty bad. He doesn't want to sell a bad product and he wants to be honest to his customers, but it's also the whole sipping on your own Koolaide. When you make a product you will be your biggest critic but you will also be your biggest fan - because you are drinking it often enough to start to excuse flaws. I'd love to see how TJ would have reacted to a pour of his own whiskey at a liquor store as a sample. He'd probably have a stronger reaction than he does to his own whiskey. That said - it happens. He was working with a small selection of barrels. What I hope he has learned starting his own whiskey brand is how hard it is to make a good whiskey. Maybe he has even more appreciation for NDP's and craft distilleries who are doing their own thing. That's the one aspect of his content I felt was lacking for a long while before he meet Seth Dettling. He didn't seem to appeciate how hard it was for these small brands and how much passion goes into their product. Seth makes good stuff because he cares about his product. Whiskey makers who make a product the way they like it because they love it are the ones doing the best work. The ones who do it to sell the brand or just because it seemed like a fun idea tend to make bad products. There is a strong correlation between passion for your product and good products when it comes to any food or drink. For that reason, I know TJ will have better products before long. He just rushed to make sure he had something for the whiskey event. If he does this again next year I'm sure he'll have acquired some better barrels and spent more time blending/finishing whatever product he releases.

I am just starting my bourbon journey and I am wondering why you like higher proof bourbons. When I try higher proof bourbons, all I get at first is a massive alcohol taste and the finish always burn. My current favorites are Eagle Rare, Knob Creek 9year, Russel’s Reserve 10 year, Rare Breed, 1792, 4 Roses, and Holladay soft red wheat to name a few.

The flavor is stronger, it's something you have to work your way up to though, every beginner is getting alcohol burn from a high proof whiskey.

I’ll always support the channel with likes and comments for the algorithm. It’s rare I would more than $50 for a bottle that isn’t one of the OGs. Would you ever consider a sub $50 bottle?

It's a goal for us to have a regular shelf product, but the blends will just depend on where they came from. Our cost on this first blend was high. Aged barrels are expensive, whereas if we age them ourselves it reduces costs. However, then you have to wait 6 years before you see the bottle. We're looking to do both, but it will take time.
