Chestnut Terrace could become Roosevelt Heights. The backstory being that the area was developed in the late 1930's to early 1940's to provide housing for lower income residents who would work in the port as it expanded during the two world wars. The funding for the housing came from FDR's policies causing the area to be named after him.

If he does go with that name there should be a lot more public housing projects in the area. At least 50%...

Idea for the end of John's bay - It used to an industrial area with factories and maybe a port during the old times. Now it's been redeveloped/gentrified with some moderm condos and hipster cafes, etc. This would be a good continuation to the downtown area and the upcomning piers and marina on the water.

Chestnut Terrace could become Highport. A zone that was made in the 1850s near for the workers of the port nearby. It was bigger in the past, but as Fort John’s industry stopped relying so let much on boat it shrink now it’s this hilltop.

stadium + some modern development i think will be a great fit for the area between Downtown and Cape Rose it was built in the middle of 2010's when the city of Fort John had an olympic games or maybe worldcup sorry i didn't come up with name i have bad fantasy for naming XD Happy New Year for everyone!!!!!!!! P.S i mean like modern and trendy urban development with (maybe) car free streets and lots of green space, u know, all that stuff that modern urbanists lovee

Portside Hill: Portside Hill was originally found as a suitable location for upscale housing due to proximity to both Downtown Fort John and the Port. Many early developers had their eye on this land, however locals living near Downtown Fort John (just row houses at the time) protested against many proposals. Homeless started camping on the hill in opposition. So the government stepped in and awarded a contract to build low-income housing on the hill to keep the homeless out of the facility and in proper housing.

Maybe it could also be nicknamed the 'Marshes' (also encapsulating Thornton) by locals as a call back to this social and natural history.

Fort John could use a partially underground, partially street level and partially separated windy tram line, like the Boston green line
@joshuacaalim3 күн бұрын
For the downtown/more dense parts of Fort John, you need to add more high-density commercial zones. I know some look very gray and drab, but maybe you could find ones that better fit the city's aesthetic in the region packs. From what I recall, there's a lot of mixed-use zoning in the city but not a lot of dedicated commercial spaces. It would also help add more jobs to the region and maybe address the homeless issue.
@alainaan83362 күн бұрын
For the bay area: A marina with a main avenue "boardwalk" with lots of commercial right on the bay would look great in my opinion! It would be a great tourist area so maybe a stadium like you mentioned, a museum, or a large, tall apartment complex. Happy New Year!
@testdriver31462 күн бұрын
The residential area should be called Stevedor Slope, since the stevedors who worked in the harbor inhabited the area in large numbers between the late 1800's until the late 1960's, when it became cool to have a place in the old quarters of the city. Unfortunately only a few of the worn out towers are still standing, while the rest of the neighborhood have given way to a development of posh yuppie homes for the new IT generation. Sound good? Also, you know how they solve the problem with homeless in the USA. Just shrug. Thank you for all the provided entertainment over the year. You have no idea how much inspiration and fun you are giving to us all. May your days be as Danish as always, and may your year coming up bring all the best to you and your loved ones. How about Portchester for the new name for chestnut terrace? It keeps some etymology from chestnut terrace and is similar to some place names in the UK of towns near ports. Why don't you compromise on the homeless housing issue by adding some low rent and medium developments to the other towns in Easthaven? Perhaps this became a major political drive and grants were given to developers? I really like the idea of the stadium district. Perhaps as part of the planning permission for this the developers have to build a certain number of low rent housing units? Amazing 2024, looking forward to what is in store for 2025, happy new year!

I think that land area at the end of John’s Bay (37:35) should tie into the new lower density across the freeway and be an older downtown. I live in Bozeman, Montana, there’s a very nice downtown area that’s pretty close to the freeway. It’s on Main Street and the street has some subtle entrance ramps. Most of the buildings are from the early 1900’s and have a very modest look. With some sprinkled in refurbished buildings. I think it would be a great spot in the bay and close to the industrial zone which makes sense from the proximity needed at that time. I love your work this is my favorite series to tune into ❤

If you provide housing, employed unhoused cims who can afford the rent will move into it. Unemployed unhoused cims will leave. You have to crank up your tax rates on higher education levels to make life painful enough for those cims to leave though. A city with services and ample amenities is not a city from which unhoused cims desire to leave.

@aliceinbunnylandКүн бұрын
for the first 4 project towers you placed, i would ad a pedestrian path with a retention wall between the buildings and the lake, as right now, there is just a steep slope that leads onto a road. it would be safer and also just look better / a bit more urban. Edit: for chestnut terrace, those stub roads at 19:22 would probably not go through the cemetary, as i imagine it had been there longer than the interstate.

Ah, a year later I could finally watch this video. I think you should totally build a larger housing estate somewhere! Maybe on an island that has more free space, and you could consider creating some kind of transport line to the city center, even though I know you don't like doing transport at all in these US builds 😅 Maybe I've been watching too much Altengrad recently, but since you have such a large homeless population and the few buildings that you built only helped a small percentage of them find a place to live, I think, if you want to keep those residents, it could be a fun project somewhere where there is space for it!

Chestnut Terrace should be renamed to Sicily Hill. It's near Little Sicily and hilly. also that area in between queens cape and bays end should be an old historic downtown with mixed use buildings that look like rowhouses, and old redeveloped waterfronts, full of parks. just look at king St. in Alexandria, VA on maps, that's what I mean.

37:44 A college football stadium would work well in the area with the lot’s proximity to both the University and downtown Fort John. With Fort John’s location in Southeastern Massachusetts, most residents would likely be supporters of Boston’s professional teams. Making the stadium a college venue would enable you to build a massive stadium without conflicting with the existing professional sports scene in New England.
@mustardgas62052 күн бұрын
a large pro league baseball style would also look nice, in addition to or one or the other either would look nice. having both located here though as a large sports complex would definitely give the city a unique feel. also it’s loosely based off boston and its missing a fenway park. love the vids keep it up🙏🏻

I actually think the Terrace part of 'Chestnut Terrace' is fitting due to it being on elevated ground overlooking the harbor. My recommendation is 'Tradesman Terrace' due to its working class/blue collared residents. Or name it 'Hancock Hill' after the first governor elected in Massachusetts.

I like the idea for chestnut terrace being an old port worker neighborhood, like how when towns would open mines or mills they’d have population booms, I think it’d be a good backstory to say the housing was built for the port workers in early port/city days. I would love to see the remaining portion of west Thornton into a second, smaller downtown. The area west of the highway is all row housing, and low density, yet it has a massive port and is the newer development of the city. I think it would be cool to do some land reclamation and keep the islandy theme it has (not all connected) and set it up as a medium density downtown **for the area of the city west of the highway.** It would give the neighborhood office jobs, and would give an easy commute to port workers. It would also help split the city along the highway creating two zones, each having everything it needs. Would give the port area the density it feels like it needs.

I think New-Port Terraces as it suggests the area was built for the new port of Fort John, compared to the old port/ harbour down by the bay. The - is so it doesn't get confused with any other New Port developments, but the developers and city council thought it would be funny and a dig to give the new poorer industrial slum area of the city the same name as New York States High End summer homes area.

That makes all the roads qute weird but also unique. The houses were quite close to eachother and often near the factories i think this could be the story for this place. With the working class area on the hill behind the town centre area originally populated by the families of fishermen, with cockles collected from the beaches (where the modern port now is) by the women and children of the area to supplement their diet and sell at market while the fishing fleets were away.... Future name vote for an area of downtown waterfront to be called Fishmarket as well..
