@@TinaKGreene No actually it is a really good way to build up and helps you become more fluent. It is efficient if you already enough some basics. It builds up on those basic vocabulary. It would take way longer for you to learn the language if you were constantly translating it to understand.

Fantastic to see you back, Elysse! You were very much missed! I just began French ( with Alliance Francaise via Zoom; 2 hrs/week) and wondered if you might have any tips on how to best supplement my (paltry) classes. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Merci! Secondly, many months back, I recall you mentioning a way to shoot some $ your way (some "buy a coffee" thing, if I recall correctly). More to the point, how can I send you some $ exactly, given your longstanding, altruistic linguistic help? Thirdly, German-language movies: I just saw "Land of Mine". Excellent! A dour topic, but historically quite accurate. It's a movie that's not "fun" to see but important to see. Hinweis: Keep booze or narcotics at the ready. Again, wonderful to see you and to know that things are well on your end, Elysse. Grüß aus Nord Kalifornien!

Hello Raymond! i’m not sure how Alliance Francaise goes, but if it doesn’t involve a lot of speaking, make sure you take private lessons (italki, preply, etc are good options) to make sure you’re exercising the course material enough. speaking will make it stick!

You should def play around with Anki. In my expereince, there isn't really any math to it. I see videos about playing with the settings but you 0% have to do that. I would say Anki excels at customization. You can do a lot of cool stuff with Anki. My cards have a lot of audio and gifs and different colors. Once you get into it almost feels like crafting. I used the Fluent Forever book and Anki to learn German, and it was the really fun. Figuring out how to use Anki to simultaneously learn grammar, pronunciation, spelling, and vocab was the trick of it. Don't sleep on it. But I did try Clozemaster based on your recommendation and really dug it. Also Weissensee is my favorite German TV show. A drama set in the DDR which mostly feels like a prestige TV show, but occasionally deliciously veers into soap opera territory.
