Those wheel straps they had you using are the safest way to tow something without damage. I only chain pickups anymore or cars when it's really cold out lol
@SimplybEpic2 жыл бұрын
I agree Julio. I like the wheel straps but tie down bigger loads with chains. The only way to go. Thanks for watching and commenting.

If you want to do low stuff a roll-off truck with a equipment deck would be the way to go it drops on to the ground to load it easily with a 2 inch lip

Good job man. But remember this, you are not a "tow truck driver". You are a "tow truck operator". Anyone can get in a tow truck and drive it. It takes experience and training to be an "operator". Don't sell yourself short.
@TowMan127 Жыл бұрын
Nice trucks. Nice that you took one of those classes. They are very informative. The 8 point tie downs are great! I use them on everything up to a certain weight and size vehicle then I use chains.

Another word of advice is go jacks or plastic skates for your rollback and look for reinforced areas to hook too. The days of using the the big J Hooks or as I call meat hooks are gone.
@SimplybEpic2 жыл бұрын
Yes, have skates on order now. Have to get through my dps inspection first and need some equipment to do that. Wanted to get trained before spending money on stuff I don’t or won’t use. Thanks again for the advice.

Yes, Insurance is insane!!! I am paying around 13,000 for 2 trucks at the moment. It's not fun. I have had insurance since November and am just now getting my license. Who knew it would take that long. Huge expense to be riding while not making any money. But, I got word today that I should be getting my certification number this week. We will see but will be good to be official. Let me know how your process goes and keep an eye out for more towing videos on my channel very soon.

Do not do police rotation calls. Stay as a private tow company. Twenty years off and on I hated the middle of the night calls.
@SimplybEpic2 жыл бұрын
Yep, staying off rotation calls. Only consent/customer calls. I am too old for the late stuff. Thanks for watching and commenting.

How do u go about picking the tow truck? Mileage cap, make/model, are u for hire or not for hire? What brand do u tend to stay away from?
@SimplybEpic Жыл бұрын
Great questions. I picked one that was under the 26,000 GVRW capacity as I do not have a commercial driver's license. Then, it had to be long enough (bed) to handle longer extended cab or crew cab pickups. So wanted at least 21-foot long bed. I personally liked the 7.3 diesel engines that come in Internationals, so went with a model that had it. Mine is pretty high miles but I could see that the previous owner took very good care of and with my abilities knew I could fix whatever was needed. I really liked the Chevy in this video you watched, but sold it as I could not figure out the transmission issue. Watch the video with the Red tow truck, that is the one I kept. Thanks for watching and hope that helps.

What all would i need, im 19 and wanting to start start getting into the business. I live in clayton county ga, how do i begin? Like in class training and what to do about permits and all that

Sorry to hear about your dad. I lost my father last February also. Tough deal. You have a great truck there. I think it would be good to pursue it. Insurance will be expensive due to your age. But check out the Department of Public Safety Towing division and find out the basics. Might be worth your time. Let me know if you move forward and thanks for watching.
