Much love to Focus. Keep em comin homie. I started breakin way back in like 85 in Miami. I too was all about the power, my ignorant young mind just wanted to do the most windmills, scorpions, ext. I had the top rock n floor but never realized to combine em. Now in my 40’s trying to combine! So thanks Focus for the knowledge

A universal Bboy!? :O In my sessions I cast a wide net to practice footwork, power, and freezes. When I find myself stuck in one aspect then I move to another aspect. After feeling more comfortable and being stronger then I come back to the aspect I skipped. Of course I do also stick to one category for a while especially if I plan to get a movement down like Flare, Stacking, Flow, Original footwork, etc. I hop into new things when I feel that I am weak in that area as a Bboy. The downfall is that since I move around from one thing to another I find that I am not as amazing at one specific thing(compared to someone who is devoted to one category) but that I am decent/alright in all things. I don't really really stand out too much for people since I have nothing strong in one category. That's where I find that I needed to also wrap my practice together to make myself a dope Bboy. Even though I don't have strong moves in one specific category, I have enough in all category that I can put it together to reach another level in my Journey. Overall I Bboy because it is fun and because learning new things and achieving new movements brings a good feeling! I want to show that being a Bboy is all about you and how you want to express yourself so that the youth won't feel so intimidated by more experience Bboys/Bgirls.

I keep telling students that footwork IS a powermove. Many variations have the same use of hips and momentum as a flare, for example. In Asia, there's a way of training virgin flares using footwork too.

I wish I started with power, trying to learn windmills and flares in my mid 30's is very difficult.

As usual, a super dope knowledge drop! I'm the opposite to this and have only been doing footwork for years but finally I am able to see the dance as a whole and appreciate every aspect of it so I've been training my power really hard. Thank you for the inspiration, this helps me keep going at it!

Limitation on one style. :O Yooooo I didn't think about it that way. Never considered myself one specific style but I didn't see it as how you pointed out. That's so kool to hear.

I heard exactly the same thing. I get called powerhead and my footwork wack. I spent a whole year doing footwork cause power felt natural but footwork isn't. I'm glad i watched this because now i feel like i wasnt the only one who felt singled out from footwork cause we started with power

Translation sidenote for Korean Subs 3. Universal Bboys. Stay Fresh! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

thank you so much for a helpful video, love and respect. btw, could you share a little bit about your experiences/routine on training power moves particularly at your early stage. Should I train 1 move until I master it or switching around 1-2 perweeks ?

I have been breaking since the late 90's and power is what I struggled with a lot especially being self taught. I have always been more about footwork and flow . Its so much more challenging now trying to do power moves without it taking so much in my late 30's. Check out my channel-Sh0tym3.

Sure why not.If you think you can't just remember that it is your head who controls what you can achieve. So believe in yourself(sorry for my english)
