My family stayed here in I think summer 1996. I was a kid but loved it. There were a ton of things to learn about Egypt. There were people dressed on costumes working along the Nile tour... there was a really great video game arcade... down below there was a recreation of King Tut's tomb and a gift shop with stone scarabs and ancient Egyptian coins. Ive stayed again since then and its not the full experience it originally was.

These are the sorts of videos that help people choose where to stay in Vegas. I did this when I went in 2012 as I wanted to stay at the Bellagio until I saw the videos of the rooms and what I can only describe as old granny bedrooms. I ended up at the Aria which was very modern and had all the tech back then. Keep up the good work Tim.

Yeah, as you can imaging, a Casino has a theme and 70% of the rooms are more or less copy and paste (these are the more budget room), the high end rooms/complementry rooms (almost like apartment flats) is where they literally splash their budget, high rollers and famous people are held in high regard to us common folk.

I think one of the biggest problems Luxor has is so much was built custom for it. There are no replacement parts for those elevators...inclinators, the HVAC in the rooms, etc. That makes the cost of maintenance and renovation exceedingly high in a time when everything uses off the shelf components.

I stayed at the Luxor little less than a month ago and thought it was a dump - lifts took 10-15 minutes. Parts of the room wall were visibly chipped, the paint on the bathroom door was peeling, as was the ceiling in the shower. The lifts themselves seemed to be in disrepair, as you showed in your video. I complained to the manager and they took off the resort fees, but I wouldn't recommend staying there again. Actually going back to Vegas a few weeks after getting back from Britain but am going to Planet Hollywood. Great pity, I used to really like the Luxor. Granted not high end like Wynn, but still was a nice place. Alas no longer. Dunno if they have bed bugs, but it wouldn't surprise me. All in all, not worth staying at Luxor given that it's a long walk from every place else. In any case, safe travels back to the UK.

@stanable9716 Жыл бұрын
Fun fact. All the furniture in your room came from the Bellagio from their recent renovation! But to explain the state of the hotel, the luxor is one of those hotels that is a victim of the great "de-themeing" of Vegas where all the themed hotels lose their theme, get only the most basic renovations and they dont put money into them because they're "chintzy" and "tacky" (see also Excalibur, Circus Circus, etc). Its not bad not as fabulous as it once was, but I have a soft spot for campy hotels. If you want a REALLY bad hotel, check out the Rio, Ellis Island, Or OYO. Those are GNARLY

Back in 2002, my Dad took a trip to Vegas with my uncles and aunts, leaving my mom behind to handle the start of school with us kids. I vividly recall watching the camcorder footage of his adventure through the hotel and in fact we still have it!; my jaw dropped as I realized just how massive it was with all the footage he took it almost felt like i was there. From the bustling airport seen from his window to the planes soaring overhead, the scale was awe-inspiring. Looking back, I can't help but chuckle at my younger self's shock at this cool place, vegas seemed light years ahead with everything. Time has a funny way of altering our perceptions, hasn't it? It seems like those older hotels are now focused on maximizing profits, perhaps sensing the inevitable shift toward newer, more modern accommodations. It's as if they're bracing for the inevitable transition, doubling down on standards to stay relevant until the very end.

My late husband and I stayed there somewhere around late 1990's or early 2000's. It was the filthiest room I ever saw. Plus, when I sat on the edge of the bed, a spring popped up through the mattress, cutting my thigh. I looked under the sheet and could tell it didn't just happen because there were a few other holes in the mattress. After complaining to the staff at the check in desk the guy looked me up and down (I am a plus size woman, probably 170 lbs. at the time) and said "Are you SURE it didn't just happen?". So insulting. They ended up giving us a suite. It was obviously under cleaned. There was trash left in dresser drawers, hair in the tub, dust around the bed and the TV remote was missing, rendering it useless. And there was a cart with dirty dishes piled up just outside our door that stayed there the entire 3 days we were there. I would never stay there again. Not just because of the dirtiness, but because of the insulting way I was treated.

Thanks for sharing this walk through. We had stayed there three different times over the years. First time was about a year or so after it opened. Back then they had people who walked around the main areas dressed up as King Tut and Queen Nefertiti who guided you towards the attractions. In the room, the Egyptian theme decorated the cabinets and the shampoo bottles were shaped like obelisks. It's too bad they let that design go was it was really attractive. The rooms also were very bright and cheerful with light colored woods that gave the sense of living in the desert. Luxor is sure showing its age and I hope they redesign the property to make feel new again.

Terrible place to stay in, but the shops and events are great. Just head (south) towards Mandalay Bay and the connecting shopping mall is fantastic. Since parking is free for locals, we all park at Luxor, walk in, go up past the food court and then right. Out of the hotel in 2 minutes. And then head down to the mall and eating areas towards Mandalay Bay. Yes, that's right - the giant bridge you see connecting the two from the outside is an entire shopping center. that also connects to the more normal towers to the south. All of the places inside it are far better than inside the Luxor as well.

The Grand Entrance was an experience in itself & then The Titanic Exhibition well i was absolutely sold! Ive always been interested in The Titanic since i was 14, it a shame it wasn't open i would of loved to see it. The dead body museum sounded very fitting for the spooky season, a touch of the macarbre! I loved all the levels & the balconys from the rooms where you could look out & see all the different restaurants & things to do & yes the people did look like little Ants from high up! I was really excited about the Casino tho i understand you probably couldn't film in there with all that wild money flying about! Your room was definitely showing its age the bed sounded uncomfortable & the room was very dated. And needed a refurb. In fact the whole hotel probably needs a proper refurb to get rid of the smell of old smoke. I did actually take to that psychedelic Carpet on the video. Its a shame its not all brand new. But having said that it does have a cosiness about it especially the Pyramid Restaurant, personally for me thst had more charm than Costas that all look the same with cardboard food. I hope the food experience in there was nice Tim. Your Swimming Pants going missing was a mystery 🤔😂 But the pool area was lovely with the Egyptian Theme everywhere outside. The only bit that felt spooky to me was the area at the top it looked deserted up there & the spooky story about the workers who might of died there! But overall i really found this Hotel to be a special gem & certainly not a place ive ever imagined...

He must have stayed on a Saturday, and he paid an early check-in fee, but checked in "rather late" which is just wasteful. I stayed twice this year (both mid-week) and my most expensive day was $57 + $36 resort fee for a total of $93 (and the cheapest was less than $70 total). Also, my first trip, after talking to the rewards desk, they were able to reduce my bill for a substantial portion because I had a moderate amount of playing time in the casino.

The tower rooms are evidently much newer and where all of their best effort goes into. There also is a convention center there. This is a hidden gem that most business travelers know about as there is a direct shuttle from the local airport to the hotel. Go in, head south to the towers and the shopping mall. And no tourists :) Rates are under $100 with a $30 food credit if you book a bit in advance, since the tower is less "touristy" and fills up slower.

Booked 3 night 20 years ago and checked out after one day. Absolute dump. Always remember the receptionist, when I offered to pay for the 3 nights at check in, she said let pay for today and see how we go. Thank god she did. Moved to the Mandalay bay the following morning. Not sure which is more tragic the buffet or the pool. Tim has been before so he has no excuse 😂

when i was there it was a building site, but even when fully open its not very imaginative, just a couple of holes in the concrete deck. there are far nicer pool complex's in vegas in my opinion. a bit of landscaping wouldnt go a miss.

One thing I really recall was every time I went to look out the window at the view I'd bang my forehead into the window (not expecting the slanted glass)! Great review Tim. I stayed here the last time I was in Vegas last December & I have to say that the Luxor is not bad in terms of quality, though I do agree with you that it is a bit dated & not having a fridge is a negative. However it isn't as dated as its neighbor to the north Excalibur (the castle themed hotel also owned by MGM) which is really dated as the carpet in that hotel seems to have not been replaced since it opened back in 1990. Also the musty & smoky smells you experienced at Luxor are significantly worse at Excalibur & the rooms are very bad quality. Avoid Excalibur at all costs the next time you are in Vegas.

Yeah this is an ancient, dated hotel by Vegas standards. This is harldy the representation of all the more modern Hotels built the last 20 years. These old hotels used to allow smoking so they all have that old cigarette stain/smell. Vegas builds new hotels every 2-3 years and is always evolving . This casino will proably be gutted soon

Its amazing as you go to the really expensive hotels, flights and such and there is so much that is missed by the hotel staff, service teams and damage that is not fixed. Some things are just cheaply done. Its like they are coasting as long as they can before spending money. I get it in some way that some things (as long as they still work) just don't need immediate attention. Thank you for pointing these things out.

Finally stayed there a couple of years ago and it was a bit of a disappointment; the room was quite dated and showing signs of wear and tear. The money these places make it's surprising they can't keep the rooms maintained.

Hi Tim. Just discovered your channel recently. I’m a Scot living in the US for many years. Loving your videos. Have only stayed at the Luxor once many years ago. Had booked a room in the pyramid but after checking into it we found an outside door in the room like the door had been kicked in and replaced and they forgot to take the old door way. The pyramid rooms were so claustrophobic that we went back down to reception and had them move us to the tower rooms which are floor to ceiling glass windows. So much nicer. Mind you, this was years ago so not sure how they are now. Thanks for showing us your travels and letting us see if a place is worth staying. 🏴🇺🇸

Stayed there about 26 years ago when it was fairly new and they were building the Mandalay Bay next door. Hit the jackpot on the slots which paid for the room for about 4-5 nights we were there. Looks a bit old now. Unfortunately another hotel they have stopped investing in properly and it’s getting run down. Back then Vegas was the cheapest place to eat and drink in the USA, now it’s the most expensive. Back then the room was about $40 a night.

7:06 They don't give you a fridge anymore in Las Vegas hotel rooms as they don't want you to stay in your room instead of waste...ehm...spending your money in their casinos, restaurants and bars. That's my theory. We stayed at the New York, New York and it was the same there.

I was here opening night as a local! I moved away and stayed there when I came back for a visit 24 years later. It was showing its age but it smelled nice and the theme was novel and fun. I could see the entire east valley from the strip-facing room I had including the neighborhood where I used to live and the airport. It was relaxing watching the planes take off and land. I'm a simple lady at heart. I just need fancy surroundings, apparently :D E: they charge for early check in?? Unconscionable.

Just returned from a 3 day stay. We have stayed there many times. We stayed in a tower room which is newer and more modern. We had a small wet bar with a coffee machine at no extra cost. We stayed Sunday-Tuesday so we got a nicer room upgrade for free. This is one of the perks of coming during the week instead of the weekend. It is older and has a bit of a musty smell but other than that it is still an awesome structure! It's fun, affordable and economic. We had a good time!
