My family stayed here in I think summer 1996. I was a kid but loved it. There were a ton of things to learn about Egypt. There were people dressed on costumes working along the Nile tour... there was a really great video game arcade... down below there was a recreation of King Tut's tomb and a gift shop with stone scarabs and ancient Egyptian coins. Ive stayed again since then and its not the full experience it originally was.

It's because egypt was full black in the BC times. Alot shown can't be shown anymore it's big deep old history. Shuts down islam immediately in a minute. Big hidden geographical history. Involves OLMECS of n.mexico too. Involves carthage and original greece. Hindu people are effected by that history as well. Because kushite black women began the hindi India race.

I stayed there a few years ago and a bunch of drunk dudes started throwing furniture over the balcony into the atrium from one of the top floors. Fun fact. All the furniture in your room came from the Bellagio from their recent renovation! But to explain the state of the hotel, the luxor is one of those hotels that is a victim of the great "de-themeing" of Vegas where all the themed hotels lose their theme, get only the most basic renovations and they dont put money into them because they're "chintzy" and "tacky" (see also Excalibur, Circus Circus, etc). Its not bad not as fabulous as it once was, but I have a soft spot for campy hotels. If you want a REALLY bad hotel, check out the Rio, Ellis Island, Or OYO. Those are GNARLY

Yup, it’s the old Bellagio furniture and I’m almost certain the sun loungers are from the Bellagio as they were all replaced half way through our stay in June this year. Bellagio new shiny loungers, Luxor old Bellagio loungers.

OYO was SO BAD. I stayed there last year for a single night because of a hotel reservation snafu at the Bellagio, and not only was its nasty, but I felt totally unsafe staying alone. The locks on my door weren’t fully secure and my room was right next to the stairs. Every time someone closed their room door, it would rattle mine and scare me.

These are the sorts of videos that help people choose where to stay in Vegas. I did this when I went in 2012 as I wanted to stay at the Bellagio until I saw the videos of the rooms and what I can only describe as old granny bedrooms. I ended up at the Aria which was very modern and had all the tech back then. Keep up the good work Tim.

Yeah, as you can imaging, a Casino has a theme and 70% of the rooms are more or less copy and paste (these are the more budget room), the high end rooms/complementry rooms (almost like apartment flats) is where they literally splash their budget, high rollers and famous people are held in high regard to us common folk.

Vegas or at least the Strip is for pensioners. Today's old people are wasting their family wealth gambling rather than leaving anything for their children. It's just embarrassing to most young people. Young people are only in Vegas for shows and a laugh.

My late husband and I stayed there somewhere around late 1990's or early 2000's. It was the filthiest room I ever saw. Plus, when I sat on the edge of the bed, a spring popped up through the mattress, cutting my thigh. I looked under the sheet and could tell it didn't just happen because there were a few other holes in the mattress. After complaining to the staff at the check in desk the guy looked me up and down (I am a plus size woman, probably 170 lbs. at the time) and said "Are you SURE it didn't just happen?". So insulting. They ended up giving us a suite. It was obviously under cleaned. There was trash left in dresser drawers, hair in the tub, dust around the bed and the TV remote was missing, rendering it useless. And there was a cart with dirty dishes piled up just outside our door that stayed there the entire 3 days we were there. I would never stay there again. Not just because of the dirtiness, but because of the insulting way I was treated.

I rang room service and they told me if i wanted food or drink or including water I had to go downstairs to the main mall area and mingle with the masses. Room service sent a guy up to clean the shower but for what I paid I'd never stay there again.

I think one of the biggest problems Luxor has is so much was built custom for it. There are no replacement parts for those elevators...inclinators, the HVAC in the rooms, etc. That makes the cost of maintenance and renovation exceedingly high in a time when everything uses off the shelf components.

Back in 2002, my Dad took a trip to Vegas with my uncles and aunts, leaving my mom behind to handle the start of school with us kids. I vividly recall watching the camcorder footage of his adventure through the hotel and in fact we still have it!; my jaw dropped as I realized just how massive it was with all the footage he took it almost felt like i was there. From the bustling airport seen from his window to the planes soaring overhead, the scale was awe-inspiring. Looking back, I can't help but chuckle at my younger self's shock at this cool place, vegas seemed light years ahead with everything. Time has a funny way of altering our perceptions, hasn't it? It seems like those older hotels are now focused on maximizing profits, perhaps sensing the inevitable shift toward newer, more modern accommodations. It's as if they're bracing for the inevitable transition, doubling down on standards to stay relevant until the very end.

Hi Tim. Ive always thought this hotel was all glitz and glamour. Looks very modern down stairs, but shocked to see the rooms looking very dull and in need of a massive makeover. As a regular uk Luxor visitor (56 trips..) Happy to fill you in on a few fun facts... In MGM properties neither fridges or coffee makers come as standard in regular rooms. And the construction you can see is going to be a "Play Playground" 1st of its kind with interactive games and activities, over 21 in the evenings. Floor 10 is the most haunted, a man committed suicide there.Floor 27 is also haunted by a young woman who jumped from the atrium. I've stayed all over the strip, Luxor is still my favourite, been coming since 1990s. The Tower rooms are luxurious, highly recommend, the lifts are quick too. Ps it's inclinator😊

I stayed at the Luxor little less than a month ago and thought it was a dump - lifts took 10-15 minutes. Parts of the room wall were visibly chipped, the paint on the bathroom door was peeling, as was the ceiling in the shower. The lifts themselves seemed to be in disrepair, as you showed in your video. I complained to the manager and they took off the resort fees, but I wouldn't recommend staying there again. Actually going back to Vegas a few weeks after getting back from Britain but am going to Planet Hollywood. Great pity, I used to really like the Luxor. Granted not high end like Wynn, but still was a nice place. Alas no longer. Dunno if they have bed bugs, but it wouldn't surprise me. All in all, not worth staying at Luxor given that it's a long walk from every place else. In any case, safe travels back to the UK.

We’ve just stayed here for 10 nights and complained about the wait for the lifts and got half our resorts fees and taxes refunded. We got an incredible price booking early which included BA flights, so it was reasonably priced… thanks for a great video Tim 😊

Thanks for sharing this walk through. We had stayed there three different times over the years. First time was about a year or so after it opened. Back then they had people who walked around the main areas dressed up as King Tut and Queen Nefertiti who guided you towards the attractions. In the room, the Egyptian theme decorated the cabinets and the shampoo bottles were shaped like obelisks. It's too bad they let that design go was it was really attractive. The rooms also were very bright and cheerful with light colored woods that gave the sense of living in the desert. Luxor is sure showing its age and I hope they redesign the property to make feel new again.

Great vlog as always, I stayed there in 2001 and it looks the same! I remember the room smelt like old smoke but it could have been the air conditioner pumping out stale air ! I absolutely loved the sheer scale of the place, my jaw dropped when I first walked in. The Egytian themed things still look great, it's a pity they didn't make the rooms in the same classic style then maybe they wouldn't look so 90's now. Can't wait for the next video, I remember Ceasar's Palace was really interesting inside with great shops!

Terrible place to stay in, but the shops and events are great. Just head (south) towards Mandalay Bay and the connecting shopping mall is fantastic. Since parking is free for locals, we all park at Luxor, walk in, go up past the food court and then right. Out of the hotel in 2 minutes. And then head down to the mall and eating areas towards Mandalay Bay. Yes, that's right - the giant bridge you see connecting the two from the outside is an entire shopping center. that also connects to the more normal towers to the south. All of the places inside it are far better than inside the Luxor as well.

In the Luxor hotel you can go see the TITANIC EXHIBITION which has a huge piece of the TITANIC there. My bf took me to see the TITANIC EXHIBITION for one of my birthdays. I loved it and recommend it to anyone who is fascinated by the TITANIC. My sister took me last year for my birthday to see the KING TUT EXHIBITION and again I recommend it.. If you think about it mathematically, they own a very large, square plot of land. They built a very large building, which is not square, taking up (lets be generous) half of the space of a comparable square building. Then, most of that space on the inside of the pyramid is empty, as the rooms are only connected directly to the outside of the triangular faces. For such a big hotel, there are a shockingly few amount of rooms.

Always remember the receptionist, when I offered to pay for the 3 nights at check in, she said let pay for today and see how we go. Thank god she did. Moved to the Mandalay bay the following morning. Not sure which is more tragic the buffet or the pool. Tim has been before so he has no excuse 😂

Wow Tim this Hotel was so surprising it had me laughing😂 You never fail to surprise! I honesty expected a real dive of a place in a really dinghy area of Las Vegas. But this Pyramid was a delight! The Grand Entrance was an experience in itself & then The Titanic Exhibition well i was absolutely sold! Ive always been interested in The Titanic since i was 14, it a shame it wasn't open i would of loved to see it. The dead body museum sounded very fitting for the spooky season, a touch of the macarbre! I loved all the levels & the balconys from the rooms where you could look out & see all the different restaurants & things to do & yes the people did look like little Ants from high up! I was really excited about the Casino tho i understand you probably couldn't film in there with all that wild money flying about! Your room was definitely showing its age the bed sounded uncomfortable & the room was very dated. And needed a refurb. In fact the whole hotel probably needs a proper refurb to get rid of the smell of old smoke. I did actually take to that psychedelic Carpet on the video. Its a shame its not all brand new. But having said that it does have a cosiness about it especially the Pyramid Restaurant, personally for me thst had more charm than Costas that all look the same with cardboard food. I hope the food experience in there was nice Tim. Your Swimming Pants going missing was a mystery 🤔😂 But the pool area was lovely with the Egyptian Theme everywhere outside. Really a truly amazing experience Tim. I was so happy looking around only wish we could have all been there with you.. The only bit that felt spooky to me was the area at the top it looked deserted up there & the spooky story about the workers who might of died there! But overall i really found this Hotel to be a special gem & certainly not a place ive ever imagined...

The tower rooms are evidently much newer and where all of their best effort goes into. There also is a convention center there. This is a hidden gem that most business travelers know about as there is a direct shuttle from the local airport to the hotel. Go in, head south to the towers and the shopping mall. And no tourists :) Rates are under $100 with a $30 food credit if you book a bit in advance, since the tower is less "touristy" and fills up slower.

ive just returned from a 10 day vegas holiday, we stayed in the luxor on floor 28. from one brit to another, spend the extra and stay in mandalay bay. luxor was one of the most revolting hotels ive ever stopped in, and ive stayed in hostels all over europe!! every sunday they do an LGBTQ party in the pool and you have to pay to use the pool even if you dont want to go to the vile party. and the pools are disgusting, they dont clean them at all, theres like a haze in the water of spilt drinks / peoples sunlotions / and hair!!! SPEND THE EXTRA and go to mandalay bay, its actually easier to get to as there is a free express monorail that skips the luxor out completely!

Stayed there about 26 years ago when it was fairly new and they were building the Mandalay Bay next door. Hit the jackpot on the slots which paid for the room for about 4-5 nights we were there. Looks a bit old now. Unfortunately another hotel they have stopped investing in properly and it’s getting run down. Back then Vegas was the cheapest place to eat and drink in the USA, now it’s the most expensive. Back then the room was about $40 a night.

Some context for you! Luxor (and Excalibur) are in the lowest tier of MGM hotels in Vegas. As such, they get the least repair work-as you've seen-and diminished amenities. For example, the removal of the minibars (and the coffee machines, which were serviced by the same people) was because they were making less money than it cost to keep them filled and maintained-Luxor guests tend to be more on a budget than at, say, Bellagio. Combined with the difficulty in hiring staff as we came out of the pandemic, and minibars got cut. Those inclinators... you're not wrong; they're badly battered. The problem is that they were obviously custom-built, so repairing them is very expensive. I don't believe they've had any work done since the hotel opened, other than routine preventative maintenance. They're long overdue for an overhaul, and I doubt it'll ever happen. You mentioned the Nile River Ride from the hotel's opening-one reason that was removed is that they needed the space to brace up the structure, which continues to sink about an inch a year due to massive underestimates on its weight and on the support ability of the underlying caliche. (Also, it's "caf-ay" in the US, not "caff.") Luxor started as a midrange hotel in the Circus-Circus Resort Group (later, Mandalay Bay Group), but when MGM purchased all of Mandalay, Luxor became just a step up from the very-low-end Circus-Circus... which was sold and is now independent, leaving Luxor and Excalibur at the bottom of the heap. The rooms RARELY get new furniture or carpet-the hotel has no service elevators in the pyramid, so getting materials up and down is VERY logistically difficult, and given the hotel's average pricing over the year, they just decided it isn't worth it. Shame, really. It was around 2015 or so that they started removing the Egyptian theming from the inside, which is super-weird, since... IT IS A PYRAMID, right? But they went with a "basic modern" look that hasn't held up especially well, unfortunately. It's a hotel with a bit of an identity crisis, although not as bad as the Frat Castle (what locals call Excalibur) next door. I should point out that I think the American Automotive Association (AAA) rates Luxor as 3 diamonds out of 5; one reason for amenities like soda machines and ice machines is AAA's requirements. If they took out the ice machines they might drop to 2 diamonds, for example. AAA has a surprisingly large impact on how US hotels are built and equipped.

okay. for several reasons Luxor is my home away from home. an easy indoor walk into mandalay bay. a short walk to mgm grand. cheaper rates than both and who really stays in their room that much. there are a lot of absolutely wonderful people who work there. I always get a hug from the cafe hostess who seated you and the waitress in the background is a sweetheart. but yes, the pyramid itself kinda sucks to stay in. however the towers are nice. always my choice. lots of remodeling this year. new casino paint and carpet. lots of improvements in the bathrooms...fixtures and shower doors. so many their are my second family. have known some for over 25 years. this is not one of mgm's higher end properties but it certainly is not as bad as some portray. just go with the towers!! oh yeah...be there in 3 days...yippee!!

Hi Tim. Just discovered your channel recently. I’m a Scot living in the US for many years. Loving your videos. Have only stayed at the Luxor once many years ago. Had booked a room in the pyramid but after checking into it we found an outside door in the room like the door had been kicked in and replaced and they forgot to take the old door way. The pyramid rooms were so claustrophobic that we went back down to reception and had them move us to the tower rooms which are floor to ceiling glass windows. So much nicer. Mind you, this was years ago so not sure how they are now. Thanks for showing us your travels and letting us see if a place is worth staying. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇺🇸
