As a former employee of the BHH this was a nice walk down memory lane. I loved seeing all the familiar places, and they have not changed much, it's a classic. One of the things we were known for was our customer service, but i didn't see you interacting with much of the staff, and i don't know if that's post covid or things have just changed there. For example any time we had a new guest checking in we would walk them to the room to and tell them about the hotel then point out how to operate features in the room. It was a nice one on one experience that most hotels didn't offer. We would have let you know about the coffee situation and if you wanted, have housekeeping send up a coffee maker. I know it seems weird, but that was the level of one on one customer service we were going for, a real guest interaction instead of just a nameless faceless anywhere hotel that was not memorable. We had so many guests that said they felt like we were family, we knew them by name, and they knew their favorite staff by name. Ahhh, the good old days. Like i said, maybe post covid has changed that type of interaction :(

I lived in L.A. for a short period of time and on my last night in town, we went out to the strip for a few drinks. I was a little drunk and sad that I was leaving-and lamenting the fact that I had never seen the inside of the BHH. So on the way home, I asked my Cali friend if he could stop there-I was going in. I marched into the lobby, after midnight I might add-and explained my dilemma. And the staff couldn’t have been any nicer…they showed me around the lobby area, gave me some matchbooks, postcards, pens and stationary. It was very sweet of them and a cool memory. You CAN just go to the pool and get drinks without staying there. (I didn't stay there) But the separate bungalows are supremely swankarooney. One or two have their own pools, a grand piano in one, and the 40's lux furnishings are really grand. Plus the old vegetation around the place makes it that much more cozy. So, DO look up the five or six bungalows there and see the pics. People stay in these for weeks...to write or escape. Very rich people...

so good to see your detail when touring this hotel..I can see that in fact it is truly lacking in some maintenance (bathtub, etc) and comfort features (quiet fan, etc), surprised they are not paying very good attention to these important details..

They don't expect tips, Tim. A toffee would have been fine. Lovely room but ... the add-ons to the rate were outrageous. 'Resort fees' are something to look out for in the States and the Caribbean. Great video.

Just recently discovered your channel and I really appreciate that you review a hotel like the Beverly Hills Hotel as if it's a Holiday Inn. You're not fooled by the prestige and you actually look for the things that can be improved. Clearly you're not getting paid by them for a comped room.

I went to a very expensive hotel once and when I looked at my bill, they added on a resort fee. I asked what the resort fee covered and the person behind the desk said it was for the use of the pool. Well, the pool was outside and it was in New Hampshire during the winter. Obviously it was closed but I guess that didn't matter.

The tax and various add-ons are something that America seems to love! And, of course, can add astronomically to the bill. Clearly, the types of people who stay there do not expect to have to make their own coffee! To the celebrities who stay there, the cost is probably pocket money to them. It is, without doubt, an experience to stay there but very much at a cost. Appreciate you doing so for us and providing an, as always, enjoyable video. (You were correct to tip the porter.)

The one thing I hated about the Beverly Hills Hotel was when the celebrities were staying there, or the stars came for dinner or brunch or for anything, you automatically become a second-class citizen; it's like your money is not essential, you can't go there because their VIPs I will never go to that hotel ever again.
@peroldenАй бұрын
That happens at other hotels as well, in an American owned hotel in LondonI showed my displeasure with this practise, when I checked out the next day, the bill was £ 0.00

I hear that in the US that it's all the taxes on top that is the killer as it alters from State to State, I guess we're centralised with taxation, but far simpler. £1503.20, luxurious definitely but overpriced, that price so only the super rich can stay there presumably and you😉. I personally wouldn't want to spend that kind of money for one night only. I've stayed in a five star hotel in Rhodes for two weeks for less than that, and that was beautiful. And also when I went to Cyprus for two weeks for even less than that. My dream is to stay at the Plaza for three nights.

Great video Tim! A tip for the future; if you’re going to book a luxury hotel use a preferred partner. If you had used a Dorchester Diamond Club travel agent you would have received $100 resort credit, room upgrade, early/late arrival, welcome amenities and free breakfast. It also wouldn’t have cost you anymore than you paid. Booking direct or through an OTA is never recommended with a luxury hotel. I know the new GM of the BHH, John Scanlon, from his time at 45 Park Lane - he’s such a good guy and his staff love working for him. I was watching your video thinking you’ve gone from reviewing the Norbreck Castle to the Beverly Hills Hotel - I’m so pleased about this!
@WalkWithMeTim Жыл бұрын
I dont stay in enough of them to join lol but thanks for the tip
@TravelWithJonathanP Жыл бұрын
@@WalkWithMeTim You don’t need to join anything - just ask a preferred partner to make the booking on your behalf and they’ll do it. You pay exactly the same price but get all the benefits. You wouldn’t have paid for breakfast on this stay, would have received $100 in resort credit and would likely have been upgraded to a suite for free. It’s a no brainer! I would never dream of booking a luxury hotel direct for this exact reason.

It's crazy that they charge guests an employee health and benefit fee while you're also expected to tip them as you go along. And that city tax is insane, I'm assuming it's proportional so that if I were staying in a $150 room, I'd pay about $20?
@Susan236111 ай бұрын
I totally agree. Isn't it the employer's responsibility to pay for their employees? I can almost understand the taxes, but paying the employee health and benefits charge is just wrong. All of the extra charges are one reason I don't travel in the U.S. anymore.I am an American, but I prefer to travel OUTSIDE the U.S., now.
@aruglaempire251811 ай бұрын
Since I am paying for the employees' health benefits no tips!
@neferazure5 ай бұрын
that's a state charge, has nothing to do with the hotel. Even if you were ordering a delivery service like UberEats, you'd have to pay that tax. It woud be less because the price is usually less, so yet it is proportionate to the bill.

Exactly...not every state has this and fact some states have NO taxes at all. So it pisses me off when people categorize a nation of 331 million documented people into one category. I found service in UK to be less than expected because tipping is included in many services whether it's good of mediocre.
