Of all the tributes to him, this was the best. He would be so proud. Love the devotion to actually doing the workout to see just how hard he worked to help others. There have been youtube tributes but all of them were sitting comfortably and talking, this went above and beyond and really does him justice. He was a sweet, kind soul and he will be missed so much. Thank you Ashleigh, for honoring him in this special way. And thank you for all the extra effort to make it authentically 80s. It's easy for people to mock him but many could never hang in there for an entire workout, he really was gentle and kind to all.

This is exactly the tribute Richard would want. A lot of people would treat him as a joke, but the workouts are deceptively challenging. I remember the first time I tried Sweatin’. I couldn’t make it through but was so encouraged by all the different people in the videos. He showed us no matter what we looked like we could do it if we just tried. His gentle encouragements throughout still make me emotional because there are so many times our own brain tells us lies. He understood us, because he was where we were before. Richard Simmons was an amazing human and he loved people. For a lot of us, he loved us when we couldn’t love ourselves. I’m bawling and need to go find my dvd. Thank you for this video.❤

@@Tmhjr_Baskar My grandparents were AOG, and lots of the women had shorter hair and wore make up. Around here it was mostly the holiness Pentecostal women who wore the denim skirts to the ankles with no makeup and huge buns of hair. Although those women in the AOG had some mega beehive hair.

@@beccatalley6850 ah, out here the AOG churches prohibit makeup, can't smoke or have alcohol in their lives, men and women have to be wearing their best, etc. I go to a church that welcomes people to come as they are...just be respectful. Dress casually type. Technically I'm non denominational, but closest to pentecostal. My grandparents were Baptist. I tried the baptist route, till I started asking questions and got asked to leave. Ironically, black baptist churches welcome questions and are eager to learn and discuss things...or so my experience has shown me.

Back in the 2000s I met Richard Simmons while waiting for a plane at the small local airport. He had been at a nearby Institute doing a talk or something and was here to catch his own flight out. The best thing about him is that he was the same way in person as he was on TV. He overheard someone mention his name on their cell phone and he asked who she was talking to. When she said it was her mom, he asked for the phone and started talking to her mom, "Yes, it really is me." Later, he wandered over to the windows and shouted, "Oh my God, these planes have propellers! What century is this?" As he boarded his plane he left behind a room full of smiles.

I remember Richard talking about how heavy he was, especially in high school, &, when he moved to LA, the gyms only catered to those already fit. As a result, he founded his own gyms & lost 123 lbs. That's why he was so inclusive...because he wasn't included due to his weight. I loved him when he appeared on "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" - best episode in my opinion. He was a warm & genuine person who touched the lives of many people. RIP Richard.

Ashleigh, thank you so much for your commitment. The amount of times you questioned your mother like, "you really went out of the house like this?!" From 1983 to 1985, when I was in the Marine Corps Reserve, I needed some extra pocket money, so I auditioned to teach a dancing (health) class at a work out place. I was told that I had the MWF 3 to 4 PM class. First day of class, I'm programming my music when this young woman walks in. She also had been promised the slot by a different manager and we ended being told to "work it out." Sometimes, I had to dance with this young woman, we had great chemistry. The class became very popular and eventually several people told me why. "It's obvious" they said, "that you two hate each other and we come to see if you two will kill each other."

I was never much of a Richard Simmons "fan", but what I love about him, is the fact that he knew he was made fun of - and he joined in on it & used it to his advantage, and it made him an even bigger star. And through all of it, he was always himself. And Ashleigh - you nailed the look: now to top it off, you need either a white, light metallic blue, or silver, Suzuki Samurai soft top, or a VW Rabbit convertible! Oh - and as you have proven in this video, his workout really does work!

Richard Simmons was such a bright and shining light for others . In his heyday he was on all the talk shows , daytime and nighttime, constantly, because everyone liked him as a personality. He was flamboyantly himself and he was constantly asked back , not usual at the time. His exercise empire was HUGE , with all the things. I have a theory that he gave so much of himself that he burnt out. He really did pour out so much love. Thank You Richard , you were a Joy. ❤ Journey on ❤

I think most people that didn't live through it just get their information from 80's movies. Most of those movies really only capture a subset of the 80's culture. They still don't know what the most of us experienced. Being a teenager in the early to mid 80's meant that you grew up in the 70's. We had lots of different experiences that can't be captured in a 2 hour, singular focused film.

What a great homage to a great man. I know he would love this. My mom had a _Sweating to the Oldies_ tape, and I would use it when no one was home. After getting used to the routines, it was actually really fun. My motivation to exercise became less about losing weight and more about satisfying the urge to get up and dance. My mom had other exercise tapes, but they were boring. By the way, I admire the relationship you have with your mom. It cracked me up every time you asked "How is this?" and she popped back into frame to see.

this is what fitness should be. just a message of trying and doing what you can, if you can do the whole thing cool, if you have to take little breaks during one or two songs,, thats ok too. it's at your own pace. but you can lose a LOT of weight just doing this. so many fitness people promote heavy lifting and protein and just stuff people can't do immediately so they get discouraged. it's cool you're exposing more people to this by trying it and doing what you can

I was someone who took (& loved) taking formal dance training - for DECADES. It was my thing. For this reason I didn't get into Richard Simmons growing up. However, when I would catch Richard Simmons on TV, I would ALWAYS pause for a few minutes to watch him. I couldn't help it as he was INFECTIOUS. He was always so happy, so energetic, so fun & positive to people in these sessions (as you saw) to keep them inspired & going. I loved his upbeat music that he used & as you pointed out, I loved that he used a whole variety of people. Working out wasn't only for the thin white women (who were already thin), it was for everyone - to get into shape & to also be more healthy through fitness. (Other TV workouts only included a few white, attractive, younger women in those leotards working out & the workouts appeared to BE work. Some women into seriously trying to work out would watch them, as would men - but NOT for working out.) Richard Simmons was different & better. Watching this video, it was also clear that the sessions were VERY well done. They were exercising ALL parts of your body - from your arms (including the parts that get flabby the most) to the stomach, butt & all parts of the legs. I also like how smart the workouts were, slowing down the movements repeatedly during the workout to keep people going & not just saying; "I can't do this anymore" & quitting. Richard Simmons workouts were great - & you know what Ashleigh, so are you. You did a really good job with the workout. I hope you enjoyed it. (Besides doing this workout just for this video it may be something you may want to keep up - unless you do other forms of exercise - besides housework, which is ALSO a workout when fully done. You can watch yourself & your stamina improve over time.) I just wanted to point out to you, that even though Richard Simmons is a professional & was doing these workouts all the time, notice how even HE was sweating & then REALLY sweating towards the end. (Flush out all those nasty toxins for clearer skin & a clearer body.) As for your upcoming trip away, I hope you have a great time.

I lost 60# by doing Sweatin' #1 five times a week for 6 months, without making any other changes. My energy was through the roof. It was amazing.

I cried when I found out he passed. He has helped me so much in the 80s and early 90's. I bought sweating to the oldies when I went through a bad break up. I was in a toxic relationship, and I lost twenty pounds on sweat into the oldies. He was like, uh guru therapist that I needed at the time and I am so glad I emailed him on his website before he passed away. What an impact you out of my life.

Way back in the 80's my older sister bought his first VHS tape. I was only 11 yrs. old and let me tell you, after 30 mins. of sweating and trying to breathe, to hear him say "now that your warmed up, let's start the first exercise" I fell over. I think your commitment if outstanding and inspiring! Richard was a light that touch people throughout the ages, you Ms. Ashleigh are the same. Your the same age as my daughter and the joy I get from watching you experience the movies we grew up on is priceless!

I watched this sitting on my couch with the devil's lettuce. It inspired me to take a walk while listening to 80s music. And I plan to do that as soon as I can move again....or maybe tomorrow. Not all lettuce is healthy, is it? 😏😏 Edit: RIP Richard Simmons. I'm 46 so, I remember all magical madness of the 80's. It was a glorious time!

Watching you apply the makeup: "Where is she going with this? I don't recall that." Seeing the final product: "Oh. Yep that was it..." lol. Because of his larger than life character, he was easily impersonated with some comedy shows... and so when he appeared on an episode (or two?) of "Who's Line Is It Anyway" and fully embraced the fun - he made for some rather hilarious moments (which I assume would still hold up for millennials, although I've been wrong before. Maybe worth a watch for some laughs!) What a great tribute and fun video today! Thanks!

28:20 😂 you put yourself in with Richards video several times before this, but this was the funniest vision. I used to do sweatin to the oldies in 7th grade free period ('92) and yes, it was intense every time. We all loved Richard by the end of the video. I loved all of the success stories at the end. Richard's words of encouragement felt like a hug through the screen. "Babies! You loved yourself! You never give up! You did it!" Thank you, Richard. Thank you, Ashleigh. RIP Mr. Simmons. ❤

I did come for the make-over and I was transported back to my youth seeing all the girls in their best teased hair glory. I was wondering if you would use a photo from those days but your mom did an excellent job with her knowledge. You were great in your ability to bring that style to your video. The workout was enough for me to sweat, watching you do it. Great job and keep up the great work you do for you and others.
