Hello everyone and welcome to another video :-) In this one I FINALLY stayed in the book themed capsule hotel in Tokyo that I've been wanting to visit for ages. Japan has a lot of capsule hotels--but this one is pretty unique, in that, it's absolutely filled with books! It was so incredibly beautiful. It was an absolute dream to film these clips at the book themed capsule hotel. However, actually trying to sleep there... was a very memorable experience indeed 😅

(very) weird encounters aside, the idea that you can just go to a library and just ... not ... leave when the day is over sounds amazing. The lighting looks great with the wooden furniture and random books, it's such a mood, but ... I have a feeling I would want to fall asleep (somewhere else? :D) pretty quickly.

locking a door is a must for me too. I had to live in a shared space once for a very short time, even then, I made sure to lock my bedroom door. there's just a sense of safety in that. lovely vlog 😅💕

Hostels are so hit and miss when it comes to nighttime happenings, this seems like one of those places where if you just picked it up and dropped it into a different district it would be the most lovely place. I stayed at a hostel like that in Canada once and it was the same sort of thing... the hostel itself was adorable, but it was in an entertainment district so it was surrounded by (tbh pretty unsafe) party crowds and had some very drunk guests. I've stayed in a few hostels now and I pretty much always stay in a 6 or less person room, always female only, or if it's cheap enough I'll treat myself and get a private room. Those are usually pretty decent, and half the price of hotels. A full-on book hostel with these expanded room options--not just co-ed capsules--could be really awesome! Especially if it was located in more of an artsy brunch district than a nightlife one :)

Hi Christy! I loved this video concept, and appreciated your honest and truthful feedback regarding the nighttime events 😂 that had happened staying in a hostel. Thank you truly for being honest, as for most of us who hasn’t been to Japan, we may just blindly follow tips we see just because of the aesthetics! This truly made me value your reviews even more! My partner and I are looking into visiting Japan after our wedding next year, and would really love a video on tips and tricks on budgeting a trip to Japan from Australia. ❤

😅 I couldn't help but laugh till my stomach hurt. In the first 2 minutes that made crack up for the "...if you're easily conned by pretty women..." 😆 and then it ended being the normal lovely chill regular video, until the event!!! I'm still laughing! The way it developed and the sudden turn from quiant to dramatic was masterful! But the best part is seeing a redhead turning red is enough said,😂🤣😂

Really beautiful and interesting video! :) Sorry to hear how your first hostel experience went! I have stayed a lot in hostels and never experienced anything quite like that! But i have noticed that in the past few years people have been more rude in hostels (not caring about other people sleeping for example). I feel before covid people were more considered and polite. There is also lot of hostels (at least in Europe) that you can book private rooms. I usually choose a room with 6 or 8 people.. 12 to 20 is too hectic for me :D

that's the reality of travelling and especially of travelling as a girl. The fear is REAL. Had I been myself, my personality and all, but in the body of a male, I probably would've gone and complained in a situation like the one you described, but no, I totally get your comment of being "already uncomfortable and not having a lock on my door". Oof-- so sorry that happened to you. BUT the rest of the video is super sweet

I'm honestly shocked there aren't rules about that sort of thing (the woman) and that the staff didn't intervene. I would also hate it with no locks on the door. I'm impressed you got any sleep whatsoever. I've watched hostel vids from other youtubers and they seemed more secure, also gender separated, which would be a more comfortable experience. But yeah, given the choice, I'd be staying at a normal hotel.

Christy I don't think you were unfair in your review considering your experience, at all! However, I'd love to point out for anyone in the comments that hostels vary a LOT depending on country. For example in Portugal (where I live), I've stayed in three different hostels and they were basically like a cheap hotel. I had an individual room and included bathroom. I stayed in one in Luxembourg that was also pretty decent, albeit not as nice. Then I stayed in one in Dublin that was a DUMP 😅an absolute shithole with a communal bathroom. It can be very different, so I just wanted to leave this note here :)
