Hello Mai !!! I'm answering why there's like A BUNCH of men on the street! It's part of the Japanese culture. Business men tend to go to these Izakaya to take a drink. It's just part of their culture. If they go home early that kinda means that they are not busy "socializing" with colleagues or they are not successful at work. ( This is what i heard from a Japanese friend so i might be wrong)
@kjming70774 ай бұрын
I wanna add that Japan is still very "gender-role" heavy. So the reason why lots of men are able to hangout late at night is because their wives are probably taking care of children at home. Of course not all men/women live like this, but that's just how Japanese society is. So bosses (who are usually men) assume it's fine to take their subordinates for dinner/drinks late at night after work. And as a result, men who can get rid of care responsibilities at home end up on the streets at night, while women tend to refuse those socialising events and go home to handle chores/child rearing. (This is coming from a fellow Japanese woman living in Japan for 20+ years)
@akira12054 ай бұрын
I think they're called Salary Men
@catmerchant86993 ай бұрын
@@kjming7077i think it’s changing in recent years. The pressure is becoming less stressful compared to 20 years ago. First of all people aren’t having as much children as before so those women who would be child rearing are instead pursuing careers. Secondly some companies are more understanding of people who don’t drink alcohol. There are also people who like drinking and are not being forced
@kjming70773 ай бұрын
@@catmerchant8699 Yea, like any other country/society, things are changing - But the reality remains that it is still a pretty conservative country (especially if you look at the policies of the leading party). I agree companies are changing their stances on drinking, as they're afraid of being accused of "harrassment", but still very low percentages of female bosses/managers

I miss mai traveling so much, this is giving nyc vibes and I went to nyc alone on my 21st bday cause I always dreamed to but mai n emma made it so real and honest that it seemed possible to do alone. I went their and the day I landed first time in nyc mai had her first pop up in nyc (September) unfortunately i couldn't step out of JFK but I knowing the fact that if she can do it being the same age so can I, when I finally made it to nyc in April I went to every place she recommend it was dream come true from cafe grumpy to Central Park reading atomic habits. I had never even slept alone in India to going on a solo trip to NYC and living in states for a year. Mai you are an inspiration that if you put your mind to it you can really do anything, even alone
