I love how the cats are treated in this hotel. They have a great routine (food always at the same time of day). I love how they actually know their cats, as seen in the booklet (who's friend with who). I also like how they didn't let that one cat go up to the room with Sharla, because the health of the cat was prioritized over the wishes of a customer. And it's also amazing that you have to take care of the litter box by yourself. Seems like a great place, and it's incredibly affordable :)

But I also like that they still let the sick cat socialize with the customers during treatment because that probably what they are used to and feel comfortable with. Would probably be a lot worse to just isolate a cat like this suddenly completely so I like how they do it.

@@jhowardsupporter From what I remember I believe it is harder for some people to have pets in japan as housing is known to be a lot smaller and more inadequate for owning animals. That's another part of why a lot of cat based (and other animal) cafes and this hotel are more common in japan. Other than the fact that Japan just really loves pets.

I’ve been around cats for 61 years and I've never seen one want to get into carry case before. Unfortunately for our cats it usually means a visit to the vet's. The larger ginger looked like our 22 year old we've just lost. A great concept and a very enjoyable video.

@skylarkblue1
@skylarkblue1 2 жыл бұрын
You essentially just make the carrier less of a "you're about to be taken to a horrible place", but instead as just another part of their life like their litter tray, bed, bowls, etc. If you keep the carriers to just the rare occasion which is always bad for them then they will assosiate the carrier with bad things.
@markharrisllb
@markharrisllb 2 жыл бұрын
@@skylarkblue1 No matter how long you’ve been around cats there’s always something new to learn. It sounds stupid saying it but I hadn’t even considered this approach before seeing it on KZbin. I knew about the benefits of a massager, baking soda and green tea leaves in litter, cat trees, beds, regular grooming then more recently fresh food and cleaning teeth etc etc. However, we simply just put their baskets away until the next time they were needed, an unbelievably daft thing to do when thinking about it.

The owner is doing an amazing job. The cats are completely calm and at ease with you, so he's done a lot of work with the cats. I've never seen cats so calm when they go in their carriers, but they realize going in the carrier means they'll get playtime and leaving the room means mealtime. That takes so much training. This place is truly a gem and thank you for sharing it with us. Though... that poor screen. Shoji screens and cats seem to be mortal enemies.
@MsLilly200
@MsLilly200 3 жыл бұрын
My cats are super calm about going in their carriers, probably cause we leave them open in the apartment, so it's normally like a safe enclosed sleep area. Not usually quite this eager to jump in, though sometimes pretty close. We pretty much never have to do much more than gently push them in if they don't go in on their own.

My cats willingly go in their carriers as well, but it does take some time to condition them to it. I rescued one that was taken to the shelter when her owner died. The first time I put her in a carrier for a vet appointment she had a complete panic attack (I actually had to turn around 3 blocks from home and go home!) She thought I was taking her back to the shelter. It took a week of leaving the carrier in the living room, putting her in, letting her out, picking it up, putting it down, waking out the door and going back in.... it was a slow drawn out process... But she was soon just as comfortable as the others. As soon as she realized that I wasn't sending her away she completely relaxed and was my dearest companion. She was older when I rescued her, at 16. I only had her for 2 years before she passed, but I never regretted it for a moment.

This video really highlights the importance of training cats to tolerate their cages. By only bringing the cage out and stuffing your cat in when hes doing to the vet or travelling youre teaching them that the cage is bad. If youre able to give them more positive experiences than negative ones with the crate, you will find that they do much better

it's honestly really easy to crate train a cat. just leave the crate out, open, and let them get used to it and going in/going out/etc. feed them and give them treats in there and they'll see it as a good thing. the only time my cat is in her crate anymore is to go to the vet (it's the only place she really goes tbh, don't really take her many places) and she STILL puts herself in her crate, even knowing what it means, because for the first few months that i had her i fed her exclusively in her crate and it became a safe space for her (funnily enough she put herself back in the crate at the vet when we were done, too, the last time we went to the vet - the vet was amused lol). also, get a crate that has a top door if you have cats! i can't recommend it enough, especially for cats that aren't crate trained and need to be taken to the vet.

I've heard of some folks not having allergies to hairless cats. And sometimes, I've heard of people who are normally allergic to cats not being allergic to THEIR cat (but still having issues with other cats). It might be worth asking an allergy specialist about? It really sucks to be allergic to a thing (or animal) that you love, though. :(
@mbe102

@@crazybiogeek its the airborne dander from when the cats clean themselves, its basically like their saliva going airborne. If you brush them often, and give them the occasional bath, you're usually pretty good. I think the cats in the hotel are well groomed and taken care of, but still wouldn't hurt to take some allergy meds.
@crazybiogeek
@crazybiogeek 3 жыл бұрын
@@mbe102 Yeah, folks can be allergic to different things on cats or dogs. I've heard of some folks being allergic to saliva itself! Other folks are allergic to dander, so hairless cats/ non-shedding dogs, etc are fine. A few friends have been allergic to cats, but then start taking allergy meds and start living with a cat, and later discover they're OK with their cat and no allergy pills- they got used to their pet- but still need allergy pills for visiting different cats. Other people, like my aunt, are allergic to cats and dogs and can't really have any 'furry' pets or they'd be miserable. Allergies are super complicated and different for everyone. Sometimes, it's worth trying to find a solution and other times there really isn't a solution for that person.

Yes, of course, working for animal rights or caring for abandoned cats is ultimately a luxury. If you're struggling to fulfill the basic needs of your family then I don't think anyone here will fault you for making that your absolute priority. Dango looks like he’s part Mainecoon, very cute! I had a tuxedo mainecoon once, his name was Rex, the most loving boy I had at the time. He got sick and we had to put him down unfortunately, but a few years later, today, I now have another fluffy boy. Fenix is the most cuddly and loving cat I’ve ever had so far, he’s a ginger tabby, so cute ^w^

I'm pretty sure he's just a mixed cat with some funky genes, breeds in cats don't really carry over like they do in dogs

I lived with cat for 12 years and I can say that these cats are well fed by looking at their fur, not much stressed and quiet happy.
