@revol148

+PeeCee the video above is about Australia and the comment further down was about Australia why would where I live have any relevance? However since you ask I live in an imperfect world and my country of origin is far from perfect. As for feeling pride it's a bit like being proud of having two ears or a pair of operating arms: to be proud of something you had no control of or any part of the decision making process is rather odd. Pride about a country is generally mindless - the flag waving antics of the USA immediately spring to mind.
@peecee1384
@peecee1384 9 жыл бұрын
+revol148 The Australia I know has no sense of superiority over anyone - we happily invite all and sundry here to share our way of life. And if you think England treated the aborigines badly, consider what might have happened to them if the French or Chinese had discovered and settled the country first. Whatever county you are from, I'll bet you have borders, and control who comes in and out.
@revol148
@revol148 9 жыл бұрын
+PeeCee have you been reading the historian Niall Ferguson by any chance? - he made that exact (very valid) point - after all if the Japanese got their first there wouldn't be ANY Aborigines left. Contemporary Australia has nothing to apologize for - in much the same way Germans growing up in post 1945 should stop banging on about a war they had no involvement with. I live in the EU and trust me our borders are very porous as the current migration crisis demonstrates.

+revol148 Why should I be ashamed for being Australian because of what my ancestors did many decades ago? This is a beautiful song I guess in a way if other Australians do something really nice it shows that I can do something really nice too. You need to lighten up, this is an amazing song and all you want to do is bring up how much of an asshole we are for being proud of where we came from. I am sorry if I am quite happy about where I come from offends you but that's your problem. I know the kind of mentality people like you have, there's a definite pattern I see in people taking stuff out on the human race and I would be hypocritical to say I've never done it. Instead of naming a person and bullying them and saying how bad they are to make yourself feel better, you'll change the words and just add "humans" instead. There's nothing wrong with it because you're not bullying any particular person but it just leaves you with a very miserable mindset to.

Hearing Peter singing this song when I’m on the other side of the world, creates a longing for Vegemite sandwiches, dry paddocks and the aroma of gum trees. Such a heartfelt song, it brings tears to my eyes whenever I hear it. Peter Allen God rest his soul, was a true blue Australian boy who no matter where he travelled or where he went, never forgot where he came from and to him, Australia was home. Which is of course is the meaning of this song, you can hear the yearning in the words and his voice.

Songwriter: Peter Allen. Lyricist: Peter Allen. Performer: Peter Allen. Why am I saying so? My "patriotism"/"matriotism" is to Mother Earth but, of all alternatives for the Australian national anthem, 'I Still Call Australia Home' is the only one where the songwriter, lyricist and performer are one and the same person. You like it? You don't like it? Either way, it is one song which comes from the heart i.e. moreso than any other candidate for Australia's national anthem. Peter Allen died way too soon but he was Australian born and lived his life here. From this song, it is not hard to imagine that he was patriotic. I am before my time when it comes to national anthems in general so I won't comment beyond my opening line. As a song though, I like it. It is simple. It can be played on a single piano with as much effect (if not moreso) than being played by an orchestra (which can also be done). Sheesh, it can be sung a-capella. Peter Allen's enunciation is flawless - no need for lyrics websites here. These are just a couple of the points I look at in "assessing" a song. Enjoyable. Thanks for the upload.

When you've just spent 3-5 weeks touring America, and you hear the first Aussie Accent in WEEKS at the QANTAS or VIRGIN check-in counter at LAX, you think of this song and you will lose your shit. I did..... Both times I went to America. Home is where your heart is, My heart is in Australia.

I am not Oz but I lived there for a few years, and am proud to live there "becoming Oz" while I was there. Loved my Oz fam and always had my heart for Oz. This song wraps up all the feelings I always have until now. Tears roll every time I hear this song. ❤

I've been to cities that never close down From New York to Rio and old London town But no matter how far Or how wide I roam I still call Australia home. I'm always travelin' And I love bein' free So I keep leavin' the sun and the sea But my heart lies waiting over the foam I still call Australia home. All the sons and daughters spinning 'round the world Away from their families and friends Ah, but as the world gets older and colder It's good to know where your journey ends. And someday we'll all be together once more When all the ships come back to the shore Then I realize something I've always known I still call Australia home. No matter how far Or how wide I roam I still call Australia home.

Im an Italian guy which spent 4 years in Australia whit a working holiday visa, the best years of my life. I didn't want leave, but my visa ran out. I was so sad leaving. Im still sad. Many nights i dream about Australia. I met lovely people, i have done a lot of inner changes. Always grateful how this land helped me. I feel bad when i think that i cannot decide to be free where to live my life because "visas and stuff". I still call Australia home... Love you people.
