I agree with GrandLine, because most Young people have an attention span of a Goldfish. They can barely make it thru a full TikTok. I always watch an Intro once, if it's good, maybe a few times more, but after that, I'm forced to skip it manually, which I hate to do. I, by the way, watch all of your (B. D. I like the BDA law intro. I can see how it might turn away some brand new viewers who click on a vid of his for the first time. but for returning viewers or for me at least, it gives a sense of familiarity to his videos, sort of like a morning cup of coffee
@unstoppableExodia2 жыл бұрын
Brago being among the first to make videos on the newest chapters is a big part of why I subscribed. It can be handy to see a yt notification from his channel that lets me know the newest chapter scans have dropped. For times when I’m busy with something else and am not able to keep checking the hosting sites. I can appreciate that he’s trying to make more evergreen videos for the sake of his channel’s long term viability. And I’m sure those videos do plenty well in their own right. For me they have limited appeal because I’m caught up on the story there’s not many theory/speculative videos that excite me all that much. Except when the story reveals something huge that opens up whole new avenues that raise many different possibilities to consider and speculate on I do agree about the animated intro on his videos though. The animation is very stylish (and it probably cost a fair bit to get someone with skill and talent to make for him) but they are a touch too long and aren’t really necessary. Like he could skip it and cut straight to the content of the video and nothing would be lost in my opinion. If I was his manager I’d encourage him to phase it out and streamline the videos a bit in the process or cut the intro down to 5 seconds or less. There’s a similar channel that I won’t mention by name that has an intro that is a similar length but is no where near as stylish which I would strongly urge them to drop asap as I feel that particular intro actively works against them and would put off a fair few new viewers who are giving that channel a try.
@thesaxmagician2 жыл бұрын

You're 100% correct! It does apply. With the mini-games, I sacrifice raw retention for an increased chance of getting people to press the shiny red button. The difference is, I don't do them right at the beginning of the video. I have an opening hook, some relevant stuff and then we go into the minigames. By that point, people are more committed to the video and likely to skip ahead instead of clicking away. It is objectively harmful for retention though.

I always hated the fact most KZbinrs don't do that and others stopped doing that and I always wondered why. The few that did give reasons was music reasons and being unfairly demonetized even though they actually purchased the rights to play that music. After t hay it is just a hassle to go through the system to get a random company, because it is rarely the actual holders of the copyright but a company that gets paid to go through YT and find people using their music, and get their video released which costs them a money especially if it is a newer video. Liam you make excellent content and I got into your channel because I was returned to One Piece in college and then after college, I wanted crisp reliable discussion about the series that didn't rely on quick hype of the moment or bombarding me with spoilers. I also really enjoyed the length of your videos. They're the same reasons why I like Swagkage. Unfortunately, Naruto ended and I immediately noticed a decline in Swagkage's output because his source was no longer there.

Honestly I don't watch that many one piece youtubers but BDA is definitely one of them. Him you (now that I'm watching grandlinereview as well as this channel) Tekking, Ohara and Joyboy theories. Such a variety of ways to cover the same content but with amazing personalities to go along with it. Really gives me stuff to look forward to when a new chapter comes out cause you get so many different perspectives

Please keep doing these, it's educational and entertaining. As you might say, this kind of content is its own niche and I quite like it.

Its interesting you mentioned the chapter reviews kind of as “old news” which lowers its watchability. When i got into OP in 2017 i started watching tekking for reviews and discussions. I was watching anime only at a super rapid pace, so by water 7 i was jonesing for some discussions and explanations. By then i think the anime and manga were in dressrosa. I would go to tekkings channel and scroll his feed until i see the chapter that matches with the anime ep i watched. Ive done this since water 7 all the way to now with tekkings videos, watching each review and discussion in order (almost all lol, i am a manga reader now too). I feel like this is just a little something a dude in a room would find interesting lol. Love this vid

@Dude In A Room Nice work Liam! I realy enjoy all your effort. There are 2 things you should keep in mind. 1) This guys are making videos about Pirates and they took quiet literally the whole concept of piracy. 2) BDA Law his a nice voice very helpfull for sleeping. So every time I am out of OP content and new theories I dont mind clicking on one of this videos to help fall asleep and thus he gets views until I wake up and pausse the youtube! P.S. I am sorry for the dmg/confusion viewers like me, are causing to the youtube channels...

I am glad to see BDA Law's success. But Brago is the channel I started. The streams are legit like listening to real life friends, it's the thing I enjoy most on One Piece KZbin.

I recommended to my friends that started reading to watch his videos as they get to those chapters so they better understand them as they go. But I do get what you mean on loosing value

You should do a video on the legendary ‘King of Lightning’! 😅 you could make it about how king’s videos are great at retaining and entertaining returning fans of his but are also sometimes not very appealing to newcomers who aren’t used to his style. You could also do one on Sawyer about how he is able to captivate his audience dispite only posting once a week with his great in depth chapter reviews but as it also could hurt him in the future since he doesn’t post as often. You, King, and Sawyer are my favorite one piece youtubers! Keep up the good work! 😁

There is so much information in this. I love one piece but I don't think I could youtube about one piece, but I love one piece enough that the youtube concepts make a lot more sense through the lense of a one piece youtuber. I've definitely been thinking about these analysis when thinking about Structures for speedrunning content.

You can't not be a bda law fan. About the powerscaling stuff.... I dont think he obsesses over powerscaling.... There are lots of times in which he says that it doesn't really matter,for the most important thing is to enjoy the story cause its the world of one piece where many things dont completely make sense so he really respects the work of Oda in general.

When you discussed the idea of getting views from old videos I feel this is where Tekking takes the cake. The man makes videos about the most random things in One Piece and clearly distinguishes them from his chapter reviews. I have on many occassions watched a Tekking video and then clicked into another because its unqiue, about something I didn't know or something to learn about. Take his One Piece trees video for example. Currently if it was released I wouldn't even bother clicking on it; but when I watched another video where he mentioned the sunlight tree eve and then I saw it show up on the feed it peaked my curiosity. Then I went on a 4-5 hour click through his other videos and topics. As such I feel he is the opposite to BDA in this sense. So yeah a video on Tekking would be awesome because despite all the things he does wrong (consistency, length, etc) he does so much right as well and it pays off in the long run.

For example just now the video that popped up to watch next is 'The Life of Monkey D Garp' which to me looks hella good. Doesn't matter when it released

Not a regular on BDA Law's channel but once or twice or thr... may I have been guilty of having him playing on a loop on the background while his voice soothes me into a nap. I'm not weird, you are weird. It's a very soothing voice.

the thing about BDAs intro that puts it above all the others is that it is an absolute BANGER, even after hearing it maybe 300 times its still such a vibe. at the beginning i feel it made bdas videos easily recognizable from the beginning amongst a sea of one piece tubers.

I would kill for a monthly or weejly podcast with GLR, BDA and Ohara. I've discovered so much of the community through you and it'd be beatiful to see something like that come together.

Instead of clicking off, I click my screen 3-4 times whenever I see a long intro or sponsors. And I think that is what most people do.

Lol so BDA is like the segmented daytime news and GLR is like a Daily Show-esque late night talk ? 😂 Love it
@cipherP92 жыл бұрын
It actually sounds ideal to use both your styles, use something that’s hot topic to draw in viewers fast but also drop content that’s timeless and will still do numbers long after. BDA style will bring quicker views & subscribers to talk about the current situation. It’ll keep subscribers in tune and it also lets you know you’re listening to a legit One Piece fan to have so much content.
@Flamesnake19912 жыл бұрын
I hope you read this one aswell wich I think is the most important thing of BDA's success, HE LOVES THE SERIES AND HE FEELS TOWARDS THE PROTAGONIST'S AND EXPRESSES THOSE FEELINGS. The audience feels connection towards him because of that because one piece is one. If family no?
@LycanDGV2 жыл бұрын
I can imagine if Liam called this channel "Man cave Supreme" lol. Nice cover on BDA. BDA Law, you, tekking101, KOL, Ohara, Library of Ohara (which I still I think it's the same dude as OHARA in disguise 🤷🏾♂️), Flying Panda, and Anime Balls Deep are the main one piece youtubers I watch and I believe is top tier One Piece youtubers.

The intro is great, maybe it should be a little shorter, but that doesn't change the fact that it works. A short intro, even if it is just the beat, feels like a welcome mat in the front door. It is just a nice familiar element that greets your back to the content you love. Like a serotonin shot before getting the news.
