That dowel clamp hangar is a great idea. I've been thinking about attaching vertical storage to the side of a metal tool cabinet for my clamps, levels, and the pipes I use for torque multiplication. I'll definitely use dowels for my clamps. Such a simple and effective solution.

Great stuff, Brad. You forgot one option for the top drawer front: use two pieces (as if you have two drawers, like below) of scrap with the grain running how you like. One big drawer that looks like two and you use two pulls.

Neat project and entertaining video. For the top drawer, what about just a simple tray shelf that rolls from side to side, maybe with some kind of magnet stopper in the middle to nestle it back to center. Just spit ballin' in my head.

I’ve watched a few of your videos, great camera presents, organization, fun, editing.. I’m aspiring to start wood working and have tools but my space is terrible. 1 car garage that I’m sharing with other storage so it’s been frustrating working on projects when you have to move things 100’s of times to stay kinda organized. Anyway, I’ll keep at it. Keep up the good work.

As far as the edge banding goes - I have a future project where I will need to apply edge banding at a right angle like that. Your few seconds of video showed me exactly how to do that, which is something I wasn't sure of. So, the fact that you gave in and applied the edge banding not only means it won't bother you, but was also helpful to a random woodworking subscriber. Thank you!

On my assembly table, I put a divider across in the middle with a drawer on the side of one end, and beneath it, I put a slide-out drawer in the end for my belt/disc combo sander with a curtain in front to keep most of the dust out. The side beneath the drawer and on the other end was boarded up, and has yet to see use. On the other end, I divided it in 2 lengthwise with 3 shelves with slightly raised front edges on one side for tool boxes, and on the other side, a drawer for gloves at the bottom with a shelf for random bigger parts above it. On the end, I mounted holders for spray cans at the bottom, and I plan to find some solution for holding speed squares and the like above them.

Before watching your version of this workbench conversion, I watched another KZbinr's version. In that version, he skipped an important step that, you did not skip. That step was test fitting the box under the workbench before proceeding with the rest of the build. He had to force fit the cabinet into the workbench, but, at the end of the build, it looked every bit as nice as yours does.

For a perfectionist - how about two pieces for the top drawer. Kind of faux two drawers but actually pulls out as one? Could also then match the line going down between the other drawers.

Great job. One thing that would bother me about this is sawdust and small items falling through the dog holes and are now harder to get to (e.g. between the cabinets and the shop vac or on the middle of the shelf). Do you have any plans to make a tray or something to make clean up easier?

13:02 As a fellow perfectionist, I may have a drawer front solution here that passes muster, using your existing materials. Your wide top drawer is above 2 banks of drawers with a vertical gap between the left and right. How about cutting 2 similar pieces from your piece in this shot, each one half the length, and mount those on the front of the long drawer, so as to make a _faux_ 2-drawer false front, with its vertical gap aligned with the actual vertical gap below it? You could even make them a bit taller, cut back that horizontal divider below it (you know, the one with the, _errg, cough,_ flaw in it) by 3/4", and have them hang down in front of it, so as to also have a matching horizontal gap between the bottom of the long drawer and the tops of the 2 below it. Well, did I pass the perfectionist challenge? 😎

Q1: What do you intend to do with the tiny dust around, dropping down to tools in open spaces below the bench? A curtain maybe? Q2: Why is there 1 mm misalignment in right and left drawers horizontally? Q3: I've watched too many bench videos and could be wrong, but I think I saw a very similar project before. Overall, I really like your projects and products.

The holder for the sander is going to put uneven pressure on the sanding pad, warping the pad over time, which will cause the sander to create swirls and sand things unevenly. Random orbit sanders should always be stored resting on a flat surface.
