This 1969 Chevrolet Camaro is from Episode 2 of Vice Grip Garage. The $100 307 finally gave up, so it's time to give it a new heart, and someone new. We spent a few days engine swapping the camaro, as well as fixing a few other mechanical issues before surprising my 12 year old son.

@@Hard_Right the car itself physically is rough. But I think it’s less about giving his kid something for free but more about giving him a platform to expand into a future passion. Cars have a high barrier to entry, especially so for enthusiasts, so I personally don’t see anything wrong with helping him out with his first project that is going to be relatively easy and cheap compared to many comparable modern enthusiast based cars.

@@Hard_Right Theres a huge difference between "getting a car for free" and keeping a father son deal that comes with it not to mention his kids most likely do TONS of work and effort behind the scenes with his vehicles that you probably don't know about, you can tell by the way his kids talk and act they're not entitled kids, they aren't selfish or disrespectful they understand they gotta work for it and well that car is by FAR perfect condition infact it's actually a pile of rust the point of this is to get the kid to work towards a better car or fix her up which incase you've been under a rock vice grip garage is all about fixing vehicles and putting them back on the road. you clearly missed the mark here buddie, theres a HUGE difference between getting what you WANT for free vs a real father having a good time with his son, theres a good balance to being a good father helping out and still teaching lessons for the future instead of teaching a lesson and being hated for it for life.

Had a 1992 camaro RS, 25th anv. My son always wanted it, it sat at my sisters about 10-15 years after the transmission mount tore out for the 4th time. All the body panels where virtually spotless for rust, however after sitting that long the tires dry rotted, and the subframe under the driver pedals sat directly on the sand. Yep sand would get wet, and ate right through the subframe. Sold it as a parts car, as my son was 15 he was devastated he didn't get it. Had to explain that car would never be able to see the road with that frame ever again. Sure wish I could have gave it to him before he joined the Marine Corps, like father like son. Semper Fidelis! I loved this episode. You are the best parents. You are a great dad and husband, not only teaching your sons how to fix cars, but to go through thought process, use your brain and also how to be a good parent and spouse. Thank you! When I was 16, in 1974, our neighbor got married and offered me his 68 Camaro 3-speed convertible for $650.00. My parents wouldn't let me buy it. It was red. I still love red cars. I know, it was a 6 cylinder 3-speed, but hey, I was 16 and like I said it was a red convertible. The radio worked and it had an 8-track tape player. What more could a teenage girl want. I have always regretted not begging my parents more. I was even paying for it out of my saved money. I ended up with my sister's hand me down 65 GTO. It was faster. I still would've loved that Camaro. I am sure by now, it would have been gone.

Great video as always, tears in the old peepers from the moment Bailey walked in the workshop, then totally lost it when you guys hugged. The best bit about you and your family is even with all the fame, you guys have still stayed so humble and still have the same core values.

The thing I love about VGG and Derek is the family atmosphere and the humor Derek adds to the commentary on the builds. Im constantly catching myself at work saying “Well I’ll be dipped”! I’m a 34 year old Army Veteran and former police officer with 3 kids (2 boys 1 girl). Derek, you have no idea what this channel means to me. I have always loved working on cars and trucks. I have spent countless nights watching you rescue these classics and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for posting these videos. They have become part of my daily life. What you are doing is exactly what I want to do with my family. I want to find an old rusty classic and get er back on the road again with the help of my wife and kids. Something we can make memories doing and someday be my kids 1st car. Keep the videos coming and keep those boys in the shop! I know they will cherish the memories working with their dad just like i do working with my dad. Best channel on KZbin and best restoration show on TV or the interwebs HANDS DOWN!

I've watched most of the Vice Grip in chronological order & I remember this car. Derek is a GREAT father and husband. Of course I didn't ask Jessica if the husband part is true.... My son and I did a father, son project. My son bought a 1966 Mustang with a 289, not running and in primer with good bones when he was just 20. He's now 23. We had it running in a couple days, and on the road in about a month. It is his daily driver in the summer. It looks great and we still turn wrenches on it regularly to make improvements. Best time I ever spent with my son!!!

At my age 13, my brother bought a brand new 1968 Mustang with a 302 4gear, loaded with an Irish sweepstakes win of 10 grand. He taught me how to power shift( no letting up on the gas between shifts) on a deserted stretch of hwy69 in Ontario, he stood on the side of the road so that he could listen to the sound of his car as I raced up and down the road power shifting and burning rubber in second gear. It was wonderful fun for both of us, Daric let your son drive it, it will be an experience that he will cherish and talk about all of your life.

It is so cool that you are raising your kids in the cars that I grew up in and when they came out new. My brother had a 67 Camaro and a 66 Dodge Charger. We were a family with 4 boys, no sisters and we were never car poor. We had more cars and trucks than all the neighbors put together and from all different makes from ranault to studebaker nash dodge Ford buick chevy Rambler VW and so on. We had a ball and memories that will last a life time. Your kids will remember these days and will pass them along to their kids because what you are giving them. You are a great dad and your wife is a great mother. Your 3 boys are raised in a very healthy home and with great values. Keep up the good work with your kids teaching them hard work and keeping old cars and the value of it all. It's called the American Dream and Never stop living it.
