Hi Gaz. My life partner Wendy has been following you with all your great tasting foods. She has made which is her favorite dish she made was the lentil meatless stew. And she also saw the video with you and your dad making the eggplant. She also saw the video of Wim as he broke just about every world record he did. She told me about it and she told me to start by doing a little at a time after taking my shower. I did 2 mins for the 1st few days. I start from cool water. After the 1st week I did 5 min. Now I'm doing 10 to 12 mins every day for about a month. I was 206 pounds due to 2 reasons my thyroid condition and just grazing on comfort food. Now since I been doing the cold blast showers I lost about 15 pounds and weigh 191. Her and I have been more active and more alert. From her cooking some of your foods and cold blast we are very active more everyday. She was very excited to see that you started the cold blast. Your her favorite chef. She wants to get me a barrel or those metal tubs. Keep reaching for your goals and also continue to be that warrior. Stay safe. God Bless you and your entire family. ✝️👍

@Margaret S - it is my humble opinion that is the very best way for a couple to go through the health opportunities, (vs. challenges.) I think it's important to note the beauty and peace it's brought to your relationship. Push on.

Perfect :) I have to admit, that ponds or lakes cover in ice work much better for myself. Problem are fragments of ice. If it touches you, it will "burn" skin and sometimes causes little cuts. You have to be careful with it. I have some good advice for anyone would like to start. Never, if possible, put your hands in water and the best put warm gloves (try not to soak them). Do not put head underwater or soak it (especially at the start of ice bathing). For more sensitive people, it is possible to buy sort of "divers shoes" made from neoprene foam. It helps a lot :) It is important to do some exercise and warm up before going to water (speed up blood circulation). All this would make experience much better and positive for future. I have been doing it for years now, :) Best regards from Poland.
@cjbartoz Жыл бұрын
Keeping yourself warm in the cold is easy. The most powerfull vascodilator in the human body is co2. If you slightly reduce the depht of breathing your co2 level rises slightly. When co2 rises the blood vessels dilate, thereby warming you up.
@seank8557 Жыл бұрын
Walking in to water will tingle the extremities as the sensory part of your brain is heightened when your moving. This makes it harder than going right into a static state (barrel).
@Olhamo Жыл бұрын
that makes a lot of sense to me. I have seen people in Russia doing the ice bathing and they say it's important to wear gloves and not freeze hands or feet.

I haven’t done ice baths, but I do cold showers daily, yes even in the winters. It is life changing! You really have to learn to breathe a little faster and with control before and while you’re in the cold temperature, to help regulate your nervous and cardiovascular system so you don’t go into shock or something. Practice the breathing alone first and then add the cold showers.

I have a friend who made a whiskey barrel cold plunge. He has experienced similar things to you Gaz. We live in Canada and he has been in it when it snows and says eventually in the meditative state he doesn't feel the cold at all. Apparently the cold also helps build your brown fat. The layer that helps with feeling the cold. I've done sporadic cold showers 2 or 3 a week for maybe 6 or 8 months. I find I handle cold much better now. I also did my first ever New Years day polar bear plunge in the ocean. It was about 6 degrees. It wasn't nearly as hard as I imagined. One of the participants swims 10 minutes a day in the ocean year round. Great video, thank you.

Love to see the channel extend beyond good food into more general life and health-based videos. I also love cold exposure for all the same reasons and find it gives me a huge boost in motivation for the next 3 or so hours. One thing I recently heard from Dr. Andy Galpin's conversation with Andrew Huberman (Huberman Lab podcast) on recovery is that it is probably best to avoid cold exposure after strength training if possible (4 hours should do), as initial studies suggest it can suppress hypertrophy (i.e. muscle growth). It looks like science isn't settled on this subject, but for those looking to get bigger in the gym and use cold exposure for all the many benefits it provides, it may be something to think about!

Young Man, You are right; its all about the courage to force yourself to do something unpleasant. I began doing 5 minute cold showers every morning last August. I purposely started in the warmest time of year, and managed to keep it up months later when the temp in my home was about 59F. I used to take hot, hot showers and couldn't imagine taking a cold one but now I'm permanently in the cold zone. I also save $ on heating bills as well as time b/c I'm not waiting for the hot water tank to get the water up to me on the 2nd floor. Cheers to your Dad! Keep thriving, its the best way to live!

I’ve waded in the Pacific Ocean at Vancouver Island a few years ago. It was prep for doing a Wim Hof workshop. Getting in the ice bath was the hardest thing I’ve done. It was full of ice cubes. Once was enough for me though. The breathing I didn’t pursue because I read that some people got glaucoma. Already have a family trend towards that and trouble keeping my eye pressure in the normal range. I believe that the method provides health benefits for sure.

Heyy, I do a little dippety dip about every week too. Its my third year now. I dip in natural water, because it feels amazing to be part of nature and to feel strong enough to just be with it. Like ancient capabilities. It really helped me to start at the end of summer and to work my way up to the winter times. My first year I couldnt do the winters. I got in the water and I felt the cold getting into my bones like a deep pain. It was really hard to get used to. But honestly I never feel that way anymore. My body really has gotten used to it and I also feel less cold being outside on the daily. I love the calming effect to the mind. I have the same issue with regular meditation. When I mediate I become more aware of magical beautiful things, its like a deep journey for me, can be quite intense, instead of relaxing. But cold water is very grouding, it puts you in the body and eases the mind effortlessly. You dont even have a choice, it just happens. I find it addictive and it keeps me coming back for more. That feeling afterwards of a strong body, clean and calm mind, connected with nature, its just how it is meant to be. Today I dipped and it started pouring hailstones and I just laughed and I felt like nature made me giggle for fun. It was great :)
