The Mpc does have a similar method of step sequencing , I’ve only just found it myself. Just go into list mode and step through using tc setting as step length.

Awesome video, Floyd! In this particular example, the really staggering differences in finished results between QY70 and MPC One are drum sounds, the kick is TOO clicky on MPC though. As you mentioned in the comments, RS7000 vs MPC One was probably a better match, due to RS7000 offering a lot more options than QY70/QY100. I know that's not the point of this video though, but I would rather treat my QY100 like an external sound module: use internal sequencer to program some stuff (even though sometimes it can be a hassle)... and then record audio output, track by track in DAW. Not that QY has bad effects, they're just aren't as tweakable as VST... with them you can push built-in drum sounds to a new level! And it irks me very much how QY70 has a much better clap sample than QY100 xD

Thank you very much! To be honest, when I finished this video, I wanted to throw it into the bin because I felt I approached the whole thing from a wrong angle. One of my ideas was indeed to record everything track by track and then polish it in Reaper. But then again, that would have kind of missed the point (plus I already did that in this channel with the Lo Fi Hiphop track kzbin.info/www/bejne/pmTQop-MYrBlhdE ) Overall, I think the QY70 held up surprisingly well, only the the drums are a bit out of fashion ;-)

I like using portable hardware devices for gigs - I can carry them in my panniers and e-bike to the gig. This looks like a lot of fun and, more importantly, it sounds really good even after nearly thirty years. I'd happily add a dedicated drum machine and bass synth to the mix - you don't want everything to be in one box (otherwise, why go DAWless?), you get better, more controllable sounds and the audience likes to see you keep the plates spinning rather than just standing over one device, pushing buttons. Great video.

So you're sending from the MPC One to the QY? Please check your velocity values and MIDI channels. On MPC, you can set up your instruments to not react to velocity at all (which makes sense for creating electronic drum tracks, for example), but the QY will always react to velocity.

Thanks! They all have their advantages and disadvantages. QY300: nice, big, sturdy, lots of buttons and controls QY100: small, portable, audio in for vocalists and guitarists QY70: even smaller, no audio in, but "groove templates" (which quantize your drum parts according to several traditional styles) I ultimately kept the QY70, it's nice and small, and I like my gadgets. The QY100 uses smartmedia cards, those are obsolete now. Transferring finished songs to a computer from these devices is challenging, to put it like this.

The QY-70 (I got a QY-100) is more of an Arranger and not so much of a sequencer. You can use it as a simple 16 track sequencer though. The RS-7000 is more of a match to the MPC.

@@mr_floydst I have a collection of MIDI files in the XG/XF format and they sound amazing on my QY100. Last week I bought a Geerdes Midi file with the Ulla Meinecke song "Die Tänzerin" with a famous DX7 E-Piano track. It was done with Roland's GM2 extensions and it also sounds amazing on my Fantom G6/7 keyboards. When I load them DAWs like Logic or Bitwig they all sound awful. These GM devices are underrated, because people never utilized them to their full extent. Arrangers and GM files don't have to sound cheesy and cheap. Some people even make nice Trance and Techno tracks on QY machines.

Thanks for watching! Well, let's be real here, MPC One is way more advanced than the QY70. (Of course it is). This video was more an entertaining experiment to show that if you have a song idea, QY70 is up to the task and can do a whole track's synth part. But it won't record audio, apply compression and mastering effects and all the other DAW stuff that MPC can do. ;-) Compared to other "so hot on KZbin right now" sequencer/synth boxes, QY70 does hold up very well indeed.

@@mr_floydst it's obvious it's more recent so it should have more capability. In my opinion, in the "small portable tech" section, there's still nothing better than these QY boxes. Their focus on songwriting is unmatched. They're arrangers in pocket format, and there is no smartphone app that matches the QY70/100 OS. You have 8 tracks for patterns here but 16 tracks for songs. (Song mode has a pattern track that lets you line up all your patterns in a specific order, and then you can use another 16 tracks for adding stuff on top of that)
