QY-100 Overview Part 2: pattern mode

My new/old QY70 just arrived from Japan complete with a full set of manuals in Japanese, so your videos and guide here are much appreciated and should help me get started with this great little sequencer, thanks!

You can put it in mono mode by going into Edit -> Insert -> CC -> mono -> 127 then Enter. It will insert a CC event into your pattern track. Whenever you play the pattern and it passes the CC it will make it mono. Best to put it at the start of the pattern.

it works!! Yess!! only thing, for me it was: Edit->Insert->CC#126>000. When I tried sending a value 127 to that CC message it was turning mono off for some reason. So glad you made this comment so I could revisit this. You have really helped me out!! Thanks!!

I had to buy it again, never liked my tablet with Cubase, I've sold my QY 100 cheap before, nobody wanted it, now it costs double and it took a year to get one. It seems that one should keep it, even if you don't use it for years, there's nothing like the QY series out there. (Forget the apps, lol)

Thank you so much for sharing this and it has given me a great insight into the QY100. It's inspired me to make a purchase. Are the sounds stored on the media card or within the unit? I guess I'm kinda looking to understand what the media card stores really? thanks Bud.

There's no media card, it's from 1997. I downloaded the user manual as I wanted one for a long while, finally ebayed it! 😎😄👍❤️ I assume you know this by now so sorry for late response

Hope you are enjoying it! Sounds are internal, the "smart card" media card is for saving songs/patterns. But they are crazy expensive and usually have dead batteries (they need an internal battery to work). But instead of using the media card, I just use SYSEX midi dump to my computer for back ups. Hope that helps!

@@thebrackett Great video there, I bought the QY 100...again, lol. I don't think the Smart Media card needs a battery, where should that be placed in the card? It's a simple Flash memory, without battery backup. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SmartMedia This is the reason I rather bought this, not the QY 70, to avoid problem with Midi Dump. I have an USB SmartMedia Bay, so far it worked perfectly with the card. I'll start to study this sequencer again, I never became friend with my Tablet with Cubase and I love pocket sequencers with real buttons, keyboard. Thanks for the video!

Happy to help. Do you mean using the pre-made "Styles" to play beats, or writing your own?

How can you save tracks - onto a Mac? I have a QY70. And when the batteries go dead, after 5 years, you lose all your data.

georgetheseventh sorry to hear that! to save song and pattern data you can use SYSEX data dump. To do this you need a MiDI to USB adapter and a bit of midi software to receive the MIDI SYSEX information. For PC I use MIDI OX and I think I’ve used SYSEX Librarian for Mac? I have done backups this way and restored them no problem. I have plans to make a video detailing the steps to do this process. Hopefully I can get that up soon.

Other option is to record into midi I did that even on iOS. Recorded multitracks from the QY and some grooveboxes into Xequence (a midi sequencer/recorder/etc)

Dont want to sound dumb, but whats the real difference between sonó and pattern mode?

In song mode you can sequence patterns and also reharmonize them based on the chord track. You also have 16 additional tracks to record on. These are not looping rather the are the length of the whole song, good for recording longer solo parts. You also get 2 additional editable drum sets. And you can edit all 3 effects here. Any many more I recommend you spend some time with it.

thanks alot do you have video on sending bulk data to pc ii can send from qy 100 to the pc with the qy100 software but it fails to send it from the pc back to the qy 100 it can transfer midi only bulk dosent work it fails if you know what could be the fix for this issue thanks alot in advance

SaMeH hi there! Thanks for checking out my video. It might be that you need to turn the transmission speed down to be slower, often the default midi transmission speeds are too high in software for what the QY can handle. I can’t remember the exact settings off hand, but try finding a way to slow down the transmission speed and see if that helps? Let me know how it goes and good luck! I don’t have a video on this yet, but I plan to hopefully soon :)

SaMeH ah okay, I wasn’t able to find that software, so I have been using MIDI OX, or other generic Sysex transmission software and it works pretty well as long as I have the “Host select” switch in the correct position, which is “MIDI” in that case. Are you using midi cables, or the proprietary “host” cable?

@@thebrackett im using usb midi or midi cables and the host switch on midi if you need link of the midifiler i can send it to you i tried midi ox as well and SendSX_1.4.200 but i didnt slow the speed
