Hei man, I'm a Geography student and I enjoy GIS, I mostly use ArcGis Pro but found it to run fine on "low end hardware", I can see that how a fast CPU can speed up some processes, but in what instances do you need that much ram and such a GPU? Is it with other softwares? I'm simply curious, because for my little experience I have never seen the ArcGis Pro and SNAP take more than 15GB of ram and both work surprisingly well on low end gpus.
@LawrenceBeals2 ай бұрын
@mastroitek Our Lidar datasets are now coming in at 1TB in size (archeology) for a high resolution fulll-site scan. Developing a Red Relief Image Map (aka Red Hillshade) using Relief Visualization Toolbox (RVT) we were seeing crashes when RVT took all available memory on my previous workstation (threadripper 2950 w/ 128GB). Niche case most likely. Plus generally I run multiple instances of ArcGIS and a single instance of Global Mapper doing constant processing when we get a new dataset. Each single instance doesn't stress the machine but in aggregate it typically hits about 50%. Data transfer speeds are the biggest bottleneck.

This is a really well-made video! till the point you left us hanging for more testing haha I speak for all of us when I say that we want to see a 9950x build with an NVIDIA GPU + Intel Dedicated GPU for QuickSync acceleration V.S an Intel 14900k or the 2xx series build when they are released. We creators love AMD's upgrade path, but we always feel pain knowing that an Intel CPU always has an advantage in Adobe Premiere due to their iGPU. This would be an awesome test, and you are the perfect fit to show us the results! We'd like to see how effective and valuable having an Intel dedicated GPU on top of an Nvidia one while using an AMD CPU. Especially knowing there's not a lot of testing out there Cheers!

@Tech Notice - To keep this simple, Just based on PCI accessibility. The Threadripper Pro PCI Express Configurations (Total/Usable/PCIe 5.0): 148 / 144 / 128PCI lanes, and the non-Threadripper allows 92 / 88 (Total / Usable) PCI lanes. So, just off PCI lanes, the Threadripper Pro in a board such as this is just about pointless Since the TRX50 only allows 80 PCI lanes. Is this correct?

Yes, well, maybe, maybe not. You need a motherboard where you have atleast two x16 pcie gen 4 slots that are connected to the cpu (definitely not the chipset - this is super important to not compromise performance and have resizeable bar enabled) if you don't have a threadripper system your will be running your gpus at 8x gen 4, the performance loss is negligible since pcie 16x gen 3 is the same as 8x gen 4. I've just did a similar build with my ryzen 7 5800x and 3070 ti + arc a310. I had to buy a new x570 motherboard. It more than doubled my 10bit 422 decoding performance in davinci 19

1. Subscribed. Can’t believe I haven’t yet. 2. Are you telling me you just solved my problem with 4:2:2??? I have a Canon R6 Mark ii that records in 4:2:2. For this reason ALONE I’ve been looking at an Intel build even though I wanted AMD. I’ve been struggling with pulling the trigger for 6 months just hoping the new AMD processors or GPUs would support this codec and they don’t. So, here I was about to buy a 14900 so I don’t have to make proxies and you’re showing me that I can still make my AMD build by adding an A380. I have one question: In your experience with the Intel and the ProArt motherboards, does the A380 GPU decode 4:2:2 as fast as the 14900 CPU? Would this A380 fit into an AMD 9950X, ProArt, 4090 build? If so, I’m doing it.

The wrong PCIe spacing. Swap the second 16x slot and the NVMe headers' positions for 4-slot spacing. Then we could use dual 3090's NVLinked. Only EVGA got it right. For consumer Intel, the Z690 Dark/Kingpin is the choice. Only caveats are a lack of Thunderbolt and iGPU utilization. Number of RAM slots are enough for me, and it will work with just about any out of the box listed RAM speeds...looking at you ASUS.

The only I dislike is the case, I would use a different case, this one limit the performance of the Threatreaper, with a different case I would go for a double 4080, for sure Threatreaper is the way to go, the arrow lake can't even surpass the Ryzen 9 9000series and is still very far behind the threatreapers. As soon as you go for Threatreapers you realize price will increase in few hundred dollars but you get the BEST hardware available, that is why I don't see at all a benefit in this case, are much better ATX cases, Antex Flux or C5, lian Li 011, etc.

Why this choice of case? Lian-Li makes great PC cases, no question about it. But if you're going to use one of Nvidia's monster-size GPUs, you should install it in a case suitable for a monster-size GPU. I've seen you stuff overcrowded cases before, and I had the same thought. Why do you insist on stuffing these monster GPUs into cases not designed with enough elbow room to accommodate them? If you want to use a Lian-Li case, go ahead. If you want to use this specific Lian-Li case, that's fine too. But stuffing 10lbs of meat into a 5lb bag is not impressive. Maybe it's just me. Am I the only one that does not like these unnecessarily overcrowded builds? Also, the PSU you chose is clearly a high-end model. But it doesn't have a PCIE 5.0 connector. Again, there is a solution, but it requires more stuffing into an already overcrowded case. Why not just use a 5.0 compliant PSU? I'm sure your sponsor can provide you one?
