One thing to note: Jay is mounting the CPU radiator as intake, but Lian Li's page suggests mounting it as exhaust, drawing in fresh air from the rear opening of the case. This setup should prevent the potential hot air exhaust-intake loop on the side.
@adamm419

As soon as he talked about it being intake I screamed and this is the first time I have even seen this case. It was obviously meant to exhaust any and all internal hot air with those back fans.

At the end of the video Jay says Lian Li suggests it's an intake and Jay says he would probably mount it as an exhaust. Idk if he just misread the Lian Li info or what but he did chose the better option in the end.

I can see that working that way, but it would also make it a highly negative pressure setup. 2-3 fans on the GPU intaking vs the 3 provided case fans and the 2-3 on the AIO exhausting would make that case a dust magnet.

I’m not 100 percent sure, cause the Lian-Li website is currently down, but I believe the case is intended to be used with both the side fans and aio radiator set as exhaust. That’s why there’s no filter on that side of the case. Then your intake air comes from the fan that can be mounted on the back. I would love to see some temperature testing with the case in that configuration.

@Dexx1s

it's not truly using the GPU as the "intake" imo. You have 3 intake fans right behind it doing 90% of the intake already
@douglasmurphy3266
@douglasmurphy3266 5 ай бұрын
Obviously nowhere near as much as 3 unhindered fans. But look at a teardown of a 4090, the actual board is about half-length. Those things are mostly radiator. It would depend on the board, but they are *by design*, passing air through them. It looks oriented to where the backplate is on the bottom and the far end sticks up to the top, so the top half will be passing air through. Not much different from a case that has drives, a PSU chamber, or a relocated PSU itself in the bottom front.

A benchmark like his will rarely showcase a cases true potential. That's why his charts are always lead by cases which include big and high speed fan speeds. Like the torrent, which is a one trick pony. Most cases, aim for a middle of the road balance. That's why components like cases are better off in "showcase" type reviews. Why didn't you install the fan on the rear that sits on the back of the half height pcie expansion slots. Also Jay, other people reviewing this case have the AIO set to exhaust so it doesn't fight with the exhaust fans. That way your only intake is your GPU fans and the one on the rear of the case.

18:35 I would open up the PSU, take the fan off of that one side, place the fan case panel down on a flat worktable surface, and use a rubber or nylon mallet to gently persuade it back to being flat again, and then reassemble, spin the fan before screwing the panel back down to test for clearance, and then screw back together again when fixed.

Awesome Case and review! Imagine it with a Gigabyte Aorus Master (whatever gen) Graka, The RGB fans shining through the mesh!😍 Also with a blower-type card. Which would complement what I think, despite what you said about "being scared card as intake, enough pressure etc". Because I think the card was never really meant as an intake, but as excluded from the whole system, to not interfere heat wise, as much as possible. As we all know: Card air doesn't go out at the backplate, only on the sides and I.O.Shield. All the card air is meant to leave the case as fast as possible, plus not being heated by all the other component's air, which is simply genius! Like having a card sitting on the bench beside, the hottest part in your system, NOT BEING in your system. If they had a little 4-10cm mesh/exhaust at the front of the left panel, all air from the card would leave the system instantly. Tbf could destroy some of the, very nice, aesthetics, having the left panel not 100% glass.

This is kind of cool. I've been saying case designers need to create a chamber for the radiator so it can both suck cold air in from the outside and then immediately blow the hot air outside of the case. But I can see a couple of major problems with this design. Number one, you can't use any other expansion cards because the GPU extension cable completely blocks all the other PCI slots. Number two of course you need to have a BIG video card with three fans, but it can't be too big or it won't fit, like I'm sure a 4090Strix would not fit. The other problem you're going to have is you will need to swap the fans on the radiator because most come with the fans pushing air thru the rad instead of trying to suck it in from the other side. In fact, I would probably swap the exhaust fans on the case to be intake fans instead, because radiator fans generally work better that way.

I was definitely highly skeptical, but now I've gotta applaud Lian Li for this. I'm impressed this design works so well 👏👏👏👏 AND the case isn't 200+ dollars either. 150 really ain't bad whatsoever.

Neat, I love to see none standard case designs, which is one if the reasons why im also a huge fan of sff cases. I wish every case manufacturer tried more new things.

Sort of reminds me of my really old Antec Lanboy Air. All mesh, all fans point inward for max positive pressure. Kept all dust out and everything super lightweight and cool.

Since I've been sticking with AMD CPUs, I didn't really consider using an AIO. It was hard to justify the price and tend to be overkill since they are typically easy to cool for less money. After looking at the functionality of the case, I changed my mind. I love the look and how each device compliments the other. The mirror is a nice touch, too. I also never liked how a GPU hung out deeper in the case at the mercy of the heat from everything else, oftentimes with indirect airflow. Nothing seems to "vomit" its heat onto anything sensitive. To be "blunt", thank you for not installing that rear fan and doing the D o double G smoke test. I'm strongly considering this case for my next personal build. The only thing I'd want to see changed is how cables are run through the rig and plugged into the GPU.

Thank god a good video about this case. I've been waiting for one of these main channels to make a vid about this case cause the two I've seen so far have not done a good job in explaining the case. I just saw a bunch of 2 second pans of the case and no one showed actually building in it. Just empty once sec and boom fully built the next.

That extra 120mm fan tray is also an accessory included with current versions of the 216 (I have one) -- according to the instructions it's meant to help with air flow if you use the optional vertical mount kit.

Awesome review, covered any question I could have asked on this. Truly a nice case. The design seems like it would be bad if doing a full custom water loop, but for someone wanting to build a nice pc and just go cpu AIO, this seems perfect. Hope to see a lot of people building with this and will recommend to friends. The R&D behind it is crazy.

I was looking for a smaller ATX case since I thought my current NZXT S340 took up too much space on my desk together with my ultrawide. So I was pretty exited seeing this until I looked up the dimensions and realized it's barely any smaller both in width and length. Really thought the S340 was quite average and not by any means compact, but I suppose the standards have changed in the 6 years of owning it. I'm sure the thermals are a lot better on this Lian-Li case though!

It's amazing to see how far Jay has come when I first started watching he was doing a smoke test with incense sticks and now has a mini smoke machine. The case is pretty nice I'm just not a fan of vertical mounting the GPU.

One thing to add, the case supports Back Connect/Wireless style motherboards, which is also very nice to see. Expected that style to stay locked to a single brand, so seeing new hardware and cases support it is exciting to see.

Initially, I thought Lian Li was overcooking with this one. Glad to see it performs well. It looks a bit awkward to build in, but the narrow footprint is nice. If you want a touch of RGB but not 9 fans that turn your PC into a light show, this kind of case strikes that balance.

About a custom watercool loop here: a barrow pump/cpu block combo would fit and easily cool the heaviest CPU's. But yes, not all combo blocks would fit. In a spacious case like this, you would probably separate CPU block and pump anyway (with a reservoir).

Love that the case market never stops innovating. From as far back as the late-90s, Antec, Silverstone, Thermaltake, Lian Li, Coolermaster were always throwing out the occasional oddball design that sometimes eveolved into great products. These days competition is stiffer than ever and we consumers benefit. I was mostly concerned about vrm/dimm/etc cooling with this design, but it did okay. Overall I wouldnt buy this sup01 over more traditional and similarly-sized options like the Lancool 216 (which has vastly better cooling performance using just air vs a 360mm AIO), but appreciate Lian Li taking a chance on bringing a new product to market.

Interesting case.. Though, not a fan of how much dp/hdmi cable that goes in on through the opening and bottom of the case. Works great if you have your case on your desk. But if you have your case off desk or anywhere else, seems like you'll have to buy a much longer dp/hdmi cable. As mentioned, it would have been great if Lian Li included an adapter or cord connecting from gpu that's serves as intake to the the back part of the case where a connector would be mounted. And the hole seems small to route more than 2 connectors (for dual or triple monitor setups). Using a gpu fans as intake, I'd like to see more tests on how effective that is.

Idk about changes everything, or everything is unconventional. A lot of these elements have been seen in other cases, or even are popular in other formats like among small formfactors, or sandwich design cases. It's still very interesting the way they put it together, and the overall aesthetic looks amazing.

I like the concept but why do case manufacturers cant make a case on where u can use the I/O ports of both the motherboard and GPU on the top of the case and have exhaust on the top. Since there are also AIOs that put the pump inside the radiator so it wont wear down as much
@gianlucapanattoni6652

That's the idea I was having for so long since I acknowledge the existence of the dual chamber PC cases, putting the AIO radiator on the backside! Finally one producer got the same idea and realized it! Until now I was looking for the HP Omen 45L case, that here in Italy isn't available so I was lurking the net to get the best way and the best price for ship it to me, but now all is changed, this case is better, cheaper and more compact either! Thank you for reviewing it and let us meet it! BTW: 'sup! 🙋‍♂🤣

The intake fans for the aio might be faster but they have to push through a radiator. Of course they will not suck in what a free flowing fan can do
