I’ve shot with Sony for my professional work for almost 7 years now but also just switched over to Canon. I was waiting to see what the Sony A7R5 would bring and was very disappointed. The Canon R5 competes very well against it and it’s already a couple years old! I had owned the Sony A1 for a few months as well and was very frustrated with the lack of firmware support for a flagship. Seems like Canon has been better about bringing features via firmware at this point.

Yea man, the switch will work for some people like you or me, but others it won’t! It’s a funny one ain’t it 😅 like I wasn’t ever dissatisfied with the results from Sony, nor did I dislike using them at all, I just prefer the image from canon glass and bodies slightly and think I would always look to make my Sony images/video look closer to what you get straight out of camera with canon 😅 but like I said, it’s all subjective tbh and all just flavors, they all are capable to shooting amazing video nowadays so it’s a matter of preference.

I am thinking of switching too , currently with Sony A7iii my main is about of time its needed to get accurat and natural colors on sony. Especially since i shoot portraits mainly. Do you see much difference in editing when you switched ?

I have the original R5 and loving it! Two weeks ago, I shot some short clips for a restaurant that is veeery very low light hahaha, I was shooting Clog3, with the Rf24-70 @2.8 iso 25.600!!! And the footage looks so good (being at that iso) that I’m really really impressed… didn’t use any NR in post

The R5C is probably one of the quirkiest cameras out at the moment but I love mine! It's perfect for my style of 50/50 video/photos shooting, and I don't have to rig it up and strip it back regularly so i'm happy putting up with it's idiosyncrasies
@bandwagonbull

Yea man! Don't get me wrong it's not perfect, but no camera is at the end of the day haha but for someone who shoots both stills and video to a high standard, this (and maybe the a1?) seem to be strong choices. But at the end of the day, the most important thing is that you know the camera you use and enjoy using it, and it'll show way more than having the best camera on paper, ALL these cameras are insanely good hah

@@bandwagonbullI think a7rV its better choice because 4k from A1 is procesing by line skipping and looks in every mode like 4k120p from r5c. Not bat but not impressive.

I'm debating about dropping the money on the battery grip. I have the Smallrig R5C half cage and I'm addicted to its unobtrusiveness. Nothing good for battery grip cages imho. I've just been carrying a lot of batteries around. Also, the timecode in on the R5C is awesome with tentacle sync setup and real 4 channel audio. 👌
@bandwagonbull
@bandwagonbull Жыл бұрын
Yea you do sacrifice the cage if you go for the grip which is a real pain, but small rig so a cage that does wrap around the grip too that I have actually been considering (cvp.com/product/smallrig-sr3707-basic-kit-r5-r6?gclid=Cj0KCQiA2-2eBhClARIsAGLQ2RmfB0ExLcqyEJ5Lgq6bnTkeRiFu8yW6pFq-dRPcu7mKiy3iCJF_3WUaAsOdEALw_wcB), but I personally do just like this camera as minimal as poss! I very rarely use time code, but did notice it had it! Will have a look into it 👌🏻👌🏻

I think it depends on how much you take photos really! The R6ii does look tempting, and seems like more of a 'hybrid' over the fx3 which seems to be more geared towards video for sure as you lose the eyepiece. I'd say if you're like 90% video go for the fx3, think it'll serve you better for video production, but if you want more stills capability look at the R6ii or even the a7iv. Hope this helps!

The cameras are eons better than they were 5 years ago. So this who's better argument is kinda old but... new again. It's just more confirmation bias. People do these videos using multiple brands and don't tell us till the end. Nobody knew. So pick one and commit. Like ya should with a good women.

Now that the A7RV has come out what’s your thoughts on that one?
@bandwagonbull
@bandwagonbull 10 ай бұрын
Yea it’s Such a wicked little camera! It all really boils down to what ecosystem you’re bought into I think, and which systems you prefer because the actual image quality of the camera ‘brain’ is so negligible still. I guess the one major plus with the RV is that you also have amazing stills capabilities too, which may actually sway it if you’re a Sony shooter. Totally down to taste! 🤙🏻

You’ll have to get the EF version of the lens and then sit it on an RF-EF mount adaptor as you can’t get that lens in the native RF lens mount for those cameras 👌🏻. Alternatively, there’s the 15-35 RF lens that I used to shoot this video that it’s really great, but comes with a cost! Hope that helps! ☺️

Like many others I switched to Sony when A7III came out. But every time I see a video about Canon I realize that I miss the Canon's SOOC colours in JPEGs. They are so much better than the Sony and they look just right. Very punchy colours and contrast with great skin tones. What's even better you can get HDR photos too with those colours. Yes, you can shoot HDR photos on Sony too, but they don't look that great in terms of colour and you can't shoot RAW+HEIF. Of course I can edit Sony's pictures on my phone or a laptop to get them looking great, but I don't want to fiddle with that. I would take Canon's SOOC over VSCO film presets any day. Mainly because of very natural look and convenience. Sony's color science is improving with each camera. There was a HUGE improvement between A7RIII and A7III. A7III fixed that horrible yellow/green tint. And the new A7RV is even better. I haven't tried it for myself yet, but so far from what I saw in reviews colours in JPEGs are looking great. Very neutral and pleasing. I might get it after all. If it wasn't for that stupid Canon's 30 minutes limit in video, I'd be shooting R5+C70 right now. But R5 has a lot of compromises for the price and R5C is even worse. Along with locked lens mount, meaning there are no 3rd party lenses, it makes it a really tough sell. Sony looks much more attractive, and quite frankly Sony's ecosystem has a much better value for the price that you're paying and you get a better camera. Better dynamic range, more megapixels, focus breathing compensation. These are not deal breakers by any means, but when they stack up, it just too hard to justify purchasing Canon at the moment.
@bandwagonbull
@bandwagonbull Жыл бұрын
Yea I can totally see the appeal with Sony! It wasn't an easy decision at all, and had about four different alpha bodies before the R5c hah still love them, and are stronger cameras in a lot of areas. Completely agree with colour, Canon seem to just nail it without much work, which is great, and obviously for stills too it's so good especially to have all in one body - although I have heard great things about the a7RV like you said. They've actually taken the record limit off the R5C which is great! And no overheating issues from the fan either. I'm hoping in time the lens lock won't be a thing anymore, but you can adapt to EF mount that opens lots of doors, but yea Sony definitely wins in that department. Can't argue with DR and focus breathing, but quality-wise, I still think it's more down to the user understanding how to best utilise the camera, light, framing etc. to get the most out of the camera as the numbers seem to be so negligible in this category of cameras nowadays, as I tried to demonstrate. In unpredictable environments where you don't know the lighting/shots then can definitely see where these factors could help out loads, but under controlled situations can't see them playing a huge part. Love how camera tech has got to a point now though where we can really delve into the details, it's a luxury really! hah
