I love the dough bowl or sometimes called Trencher they were used in the 1800s and 1900s as a wooden vessel is best used to mix ingredients and give dough a warm place to rise when you cover the dough with a cloth, wooden bowls are prefarred as the heat generated fementation of the yeast and is retained in the wood giving the dough an even rise, Josh you should also make a wooden Dough Scraper/a Bakers Bench Knife to go with the Dough Bowls👍🏼

Love the bowl. Like Ashley, I thought they were used to prove the dough so I looked it up. 'A dough bowl, or sometimes called a trencher, is a wooden vessel used to mix bread dough. Dating back to colonial times, these bowls were found in every home, and were carved from a large piece of wood.' You learn something new every day.

When I baked some scones/biscuits one day, one unknowingly fell off the tray and remained in the bottom of the oven until I used it again, finally discovering it in a cloud of smoke. It had turned to charcoal but was so cool, in my opinion, that I sealed it well with clear nail polish and it sits proudly in my china cabinet.

What a nice "day off!" Love hearing the names of the surrounding "towns" in the area, since I used to live in DV. Lovely house you visited in Nojack! ....Fun Fact: I laughed out loud at some antics, & actually found myself smiling as I was watching the video unfold. Rough few months since Sept/22 when hubby unexpectedly passed away..RIP.....your vids certainly lighten my spirits...for this, I'm thankful! Love the "dough bowl"...it looks lovely on your table! The dough bread bowl was always an oblong wooden deep tray. The center was where the dough was made up, but flour from the ends was often thrown in if the dough was too watery. Types of these were used from 1600's to present day.

A dough bowl is called a bread bowl in the southern US. It was filled completely with flour and the center was where you made up the bread dough. When your dough was transferred to a baking pan, the bread tray was covered & set aside until next time. Occasionally, it had more flour added to it.

I like the bowl before the char or maybe a little less char. I do really like it. We call them bread bowls.
@susieebbert7114 Жыл бұрын
My thoughts exactly JoEllen Meek ... I think the char is too deep. A light kiss of a char would scream rustic yet not take away from the beauty of the wood grain. Though this bowl is nice,, It screams campfire log burnt. LOL,, sorry just my opinion folks, please go easy on me in the comments.

Charles Bukowski! I knew it as soon as it started. He was a tortured artist, but brilliant as many other artists in the past have been in the same condition. They create some of the most beautiful art in the world. It comes from deep within & it shows. And of course... The bowl is amazing!

awesome bowl !!! awesome accident!!! that type of bowl could be used for anything ...for example ..charcuteries or cheese presentation bowl ,fruit bowl, banana bread bowl , bowl for keys or ur mail or a catch all bowl for ur entry way .fancy bathroom soaps bowl ,hold towels in the bathroom ...the ideas are endless for a bowl like that u could use it for floral arrangements even or for presentations of goods at stores ...u can never go wrong with a bowl like that ... i think u should add it to ur catalog for the unfinished kitchen goods it would fit beautifully in all that u have already...maybe even smaller and bigger sizes too ... try and find some free logs from trees people had cut down that dont want to use them for firewood and such ...really rustic when u can make them from actual trees from peoples yards ... just some ideas i thought i'd share with u b/c ur just one of those people who runs with ideas from others and u dont reject other peeps ideas . ur a good guy and everything inspires u and i enjoy throwing out ideas that help inspire great people to do great things !!!

Yes dough bowls were used in Europe then in Canada when the settlers and homesteaders cleared the land to farm. It holds large quantities of mixed bread dough. It’s left to rise then baked in bread pans. Some Bowls were larger then these. Seen in the Ukrainian museum near Edmonton. ❤❤

In Finland, these are called dough trought, they are often about 1.5-2 meters long and about 30-50 cm in diameter, they are often made from split logs that are carved with an ax. of course there were also smaller ones, in these they really made doughs that were kneaded entirely by hand.
