This story really breaks my heart. I lost my mother to hyperthermia when she was 72. Our elderly needs to be protected. That hospital should never had that woman going to sit in a car in the heat. That’s dangerous at any age but even more for the elderly and young children. Rest In Peace to this sweet woman ❤️

This was during the COVID PANDEMIC when all kinds of strict policies were put in place. No one was intentionally negligent toward that dear lady. We don’t know why she didn’t dial 911 on the phone in the car when she felt ill. We don’t know why , considering the multiple restrictions because of COVID , they didn’t call ahead of time to see if she would be allowed to go in with her husband. We don’t know a lot. It is a tragedy. I feel sorry for the husband who has to go on without his beloved wife.

This guy is wrong at the VA hospital. The person at the door instead of turning her away should call their supervisor or management to ask for exception for her to at least wait in the lobby of the hospital so she won’t have to wait in the car. Mrs. Lear did not deserve to die like that. This should not have happened. More than 50 yrs she was by her husband's side only to be treated like a non-factor who was in the way. While their actions may not have been outright malicious their attitudes were atrocious & indifferent. That's not how you treat the wife of U.S. Veteran and certainly not an elderly woman. The VA needs to recognize & respect the roles wives play in not just their husband's careers but their after-care beyond active duty. Without their wives many would be far worse off so please VA administration & medical staff RESPECT the wives of your veterans. I'm so tired of hearing about trifling deaths connected to inadequate, trifling & often indifferent maltreatment of our veterans at the hands of the VA hospital. Many of their policies do more harm than good to the veteran and by extension, their wives. My sincerest condolences to Mr. Lear on his loss. May God be his strength throughout.

When we were finally allowed back into the hospital to visit him…… My brother who was 6’8” was absolutely skin and bones. We walked in around breakfast time. There was a tray of food in front of him teasingly close. Because of the severity of his Parkinson’s he was too shaky to feed himself. He had a bottle of Ensure with a straw in it he was sipping from. My sister fed him the whole tray of food,he ate every bite!!! It took about 20 to 25 minutes to feed him. Sadly he never recovered. Why does it take something like this for "policy changes"? For the love of God WTH is wrong with those people? Make everyone who denied her entry sit in a hot car for a few hours so they can get an idea of what that poor woman suffered.

As horrible as this is … nothing can bring the woman back. I am happy that the VA immediately stepped up that day and implemented changes for the safety of future visitors.

Yeah they stepped up because they had to do damage control plain and simple!
