This story really breaks my heart. I lost my mother to hyperthermia when she was 72. Our elderly needs to be protected. That hospital should never had that woman going to sit in a car in the heat. That’s dangerous at any age but even more for the elderly and young children. Rest In Peace to this sweet woman ❤️

This breaks my heart; what is wrong with people today!!! I am SO sorry; it’s inexcusable! Your wife was a beautiful person and SO are you. Common sense and decency should be used; I’m sick of hearing about policies when you all forced her to stay outside in the heat. Act like a caring person and not a robot!!!! Prayers and love to you and your family❤️🙏🏽🙏

This was during the COVID PANDEMIC when all kinds of strict policies were put in place. No one was intentionally negligent toward that dear lady. We don’t know why she didn’t dial 911 on the phone in the car when she felt ill. We don’t know why , considering the multiple restrictions because of COVID , they didn’t call ahead of time to see if she would be allowed to go in with her husband. We don’t know a lot. It is a tragedy. I feel sorry for the husband who has to go on without his beloved wife.

This guy is wrong at the VA hospital. The person at the door instead of turning her away should call their supervisor or management to ask for exception for her to at least wait in the lobby of the hospital so she won’t have to wait in the car. No, excuse, she didn’t have to die. Sooo heartbreaking ❤️‍🩹!!!!

This spring, 2022, I went to the ER with my husband in AZ. I was told to wait in the car, because of the risk of covid. It was a hot day. Fortunately, I did not succumb to the conditions of that day. However, this practice was still going on at that time. Utterlly dispicable to treat the public in this way. She's so lovely. May she RIP.

Mrs. Lear did not deserve to die like that. This should not have happened. More than 50 yrs she was by her husband's side only to be treated like a non-factor who was in the way. While their actions may not have been outright malicious their attitudes were atrocious & indifferent. That's not how you treat the wife of U.S. Veteran and certainly not an elderly woman. The VA needs to recognize & respect the roles wives play in not just their husband's careers but their after-care beyond active duty. Without their wives many would be far worse off so please VA administration & medical staff RESPECT the wives of your veterans. I'm so tired of hearing about trifling deaths connected to inadequate, trifling & often indifferent maltreatment of our veterans at the hands of the VA hospital. Many of their policies do more harm than good to the veteran and by extension, their wives. My sincerest condolences to Mr. Lear on his loss. May God be his strength throughout.

My brother had Parkinson’s in 2020. We weren’t able to see him for over a year. His voice was too weak to hear over the phone. We relied on updates from his hospital. When we were finally allowed back into the hospital to visit him…… My brother who was 6’8” was absolutely skin and bones. We walked in around breakfast time. There was a tray of food in front of him teasingly close. Because of the severity of his Parkinson’s he was too shaky to feed himself. He had a bottle of Ensure with a straw in it he was sipping from. My sister fed him the whole tray of food,he ate every bite!!! It took about 20 to 25 minutes to feed him. Sadly he never recovered. My brother was allowed to starve to death during Covid!!!!! Because of Covid restrictions ridiculous restrictions!!!! I HOPE TO GOD AMERICANS NEVER ALLOW OUR GOVERNMENT TO OWN US LIKE THAT EVER AGAIN!!!!!

How is this anybody’s fault?? I’m sorry she died but she was in a vehicle and she could have turned the AC on… it’s tragic, don’t get me wrong. I feel for this man who lost his wife but this was just a tragic loss that is nobody’s fault.

This is so sad, I wonder why she just didn't go home when she was getting hot or go to a restaurant near by or something. If she didn't want to drive maybe she could have gotten a cab. Something not quite right here.

I don't really get why this isn't her fault: did she think she could wait outside in a hot car?

No one going to talk about it taking the man 5+ hours to get a transfusion? Does it normally take that long? If so, why would she want to go with him and wait that long?

They should never be so mean and messy. To me changing the policies on the same day is guilty 😔. I wonder why she just didn't go sit inside of a restaurant or something.

Regardless of Covid restrictions they should've allowed her into a room alone to wait. People were crazy in the beginning.

They were definitely wrong for letting that lady sit outside in those temperatures. You’d rather choose company policy over someone’s life. They could at least sent an Uber to take her home

She could have driven to the nearest Walmart which is 4 minutes away from the VA or a store and waited inside they were open during the pandemic, to sit in roast in a car doesn't make sense. He must have been strict with her about gas.

Her husband said she didn’t drive much & she was only there to drive him home from the hospital she most likely didn’t feel comfortable driving alone.

Why does it take something like this for "policy changes"? For the love of God WTH is wrong with those people? Make everyone who denied her entry sit in a hot car for a few hours so they can get an idea of what that poor woman suffered.
