Hi Eddie another great video. So it looks like condemned prisoners would have been trundled through the city streets past baying crowds, out of the New Gate, left onto the Gallowgate and up to the Town Moor where the majority of executions took place. I understand most were around where the old barracks were. I think the Gallowgate was the road not a gate, from the Norse, "Gata", meaning road/street. Cheers

When we talk about Hadrians wall, we usually only talk about the wall in this country. The wall used to run through Europe and North Africa, and it's probably as our part is so well preserved. It's a shame the wall doesn't have its story told in its full glory. Another great video.

I'm 37 and I actually visited the Castle Keep yesterday morning for the first time since I was a kid. Coincidentally I learnt myself yesterday the history to why the Strawberry is named as it is through reading the writing on the side of the pub wall outside before going in there for pre match pints. A few months ago I also visited the Discovery Museum for the first time in also over 20 years and they have brilliant history sections on the origins of the city and a seperate one on the history of the river Tyne.

Spotted you yesterday just as you walked past me - must've just finished your summary at the end. I'd have known why it's called Gallowgate as Jane Jamieson, the last woman from Newcastle gaol to be hanged in 1829 was the niece of my 6 times great grandfather. She passed through there on her way to the gallows - where blood donor centre & BBC Newcastle are now.

@@TynesideLife Hi Eddy. I found out through Newcastle City Guides on one of their walks. The guide said the gallows were probably in the blood donor centre car park. Think it was on a walk called Murderous Newcastle, not sure if they've done it recently.

Lort burn, the swirle and what’s the third?

Hi Mark, I’ve never heard of the Swirle being a river under the city centre and can’t find anything on a search. Can you tell me more about this river and a reference please 👍🏻 The three I know of are Skinner burn, Lort Burn and Pandon Burn
