So if you're planning on getting a USB-C cable, pay attention to the USB version. Out of the 21 cables in my test group, only 4 were USB-C 3.x. Within that group, two were USB-C 3.2 and two were USB-C 3.1 and biggest difference from what I saw came from the data transfer speeds. Now, even within the USB-C 3.1 and 3.2, there are variants where an older version is faster than a newer version. For example, USB 3.1 Gen 2 has faster download speeds than USB 3.2 Gen 1. What a dumpster fire...

Reviewer not influencer eh... It's a dumpster fire because you did now know the difference between USB 3.1 Gen 1, USB 3.1 Gen 2, and USB 3.2 when you initially shot and edited the video? Did you even know that only the 15 Pro phones support USB 3 when you shot and edited this video? Your video is a dumpster fire. Oh but all that time you spent making this nonsensical video, gotta monetize it someway right? Let's not forget that afflilliate link revenue... You have lost all credibility as an honest reviewer. Let's see how you censor your comments section.

It’s because of the cable length. There is no sense in getting 3.2 if it’s 1m+ as the signal diminishes too fast (only exception is glass-fiber cables - but you would notice that heavily in pricing of the product). So maybe make a video for the best charging cables (like MacBooks can handle 120w which most cables do not support) and one for the best data cables (they are going to be shorter than 1m then - so between 0.5 to 0.8 m). Makes the most sense financially as well as effectively. A charging cable that is 0.5m is annoying- a data cable that can handle only 5 Gbit/s instead of 10 is also annoying. Moreover, great charging cables (not regarding iPhone as it is 30w only) are hard to find and can get pricey. What would also be interesting is have they been tested for hazardous chemicals (like ROHS certification) - there is no sense (at least imo) to use a cable that you need to wash your hands after every contact. Especially regarding eating / preparing food after that (and yes at home that should be normal - but still on the go that’s not always possible) or going to bed (like also having the cable in bed etc). So this would also be something worth looking at in my opinion.

As far as charging the iPhone 15 goes, any compliant USB-C cable will deliver 60W at minimum which is double what the phone will draw, so technically any compliant USB-C cable at all is sufficient. The only limiting factor for charging is the power adapter you're using. Data transfer is what's confusing. The Pro models have USB 3.2 Gen 2 which allows for 10Gbps, but not every USB 3.2 Gen 2 cable is transferring data at that speed from/to an iPhone 15 and I don't think anyone has figured out why yet. There are lots of threads about this on Macrumors and the iPhone subreddit. EDIT: Just watched the video now that it's available. Thank you for all that testing. Ordered two of those Mophies. Hopefully Apple will clear up the confusion.

Because of all the strangeness with USB cables I’ve been buying Thunderbolt cables for several years. Now I just buy TB 4 cables. They work on everything at full speeds for both power delivery and transfer speeds. Older TB 3 cables might be a bit slower on charging some very high speed charge devices, but otherwise they’re more obsolescence proof. Yes, they may cost more, but they last much longer too.

There are a bunch of 2.6 ft passive USB 4 cables at Amazon that do 40gbps data transfer and can power most laptops, for around 20 bucks. If you get longer than that, data transfers drop to 20gbps or less, unless they’re an active cable. To me these cables should be topping your list.

Worth noting that official apple cases as well as many third party cases have a very small charging cable cutout and so around 50% of usb-c cables won’t fit so you’ll have to ruin the case to make the cutout bigger or take the case off every time you charge your phone.

Is there any way you can do a 3-5 month update how these are holding up? Obviously you can’t do durability test now but I think durability of a lot of these is something SUPER important aside from them being 2.0 or 3.0. Personally even with my 15 Pro I am one of them that could care less about transfer speeds so yeah, durability is my biggest thing for sure. Been lucky with Anker and if they ever failed me, just contact them and they sent a new one so I know I can rely on them.

Monoprice has the best USB-C charging cables that I have ever tried, by far. The physical connection is very snug and secure. My priority is charging speed (100 W, so my laptop can charge) and cable length (10 ft), not USB3 data speeds. I think lots of people would be served far better by those two attributes than transfer speeds they are unlikely to ever use.

What are the specs of the computer you are using for test? etc ... I have the Cable Matters USB-C cable mentioned in your review, and it takes my computer (M1 Max MBP, 64GB RAM, macOS Monterey) ~18 seconds to transfer a 4GB video file. Would love to know how you are able to transfer a larger file in 1/3 of the time. Thanks!
@chocolate_squiggle Жыл бұрын
That is approx 4000MB / 18 secs = 222 MB per second. So look at what you are reading from and then what you are writing to e.g. hard drives/SSD, a USB stick or some other type of portable storage drive. One of those may be the limiting factor. In some cases how they're attached can also be limiting i.e. a fast SSD drive in a cheap/poor SSD to USB enclosure might not transfer at max speeds, there could be poor quality connections or drivers...everything in the chain needs taking into account not just the cable. As far as I remember he said on another video he is transferring files from some fancy iphone to an NVME drive which can work on the order of thousands of MB per second, and the fact that ANY of his cables can transfer 5.5GB in 6 seconds clearly shows his setup is not a bottleneck (it's basically 10,000Mbps USB 3.x Gen2 speeds). Actually I'm kinda surprised his phone can read files that fast to spit them out the cable and onto the NVME. I don't know anything about iphones do the latest ones use NVME inside? Anyway.....
