@@The_Tennessee_Kayak_Angler I use a drone prop on my Minn Kota for an 18' Old Town canoe. Works well & better than stock. I was curious the stats on the ones you used with a more aggressive pitch. YOUR results are what I predicted for myself. Thanks again.

Nice comparison video! No bullshit extra talking, just direct to the point! Confirms a suspicion that props with less surface area will draw less current, create less drag, and produce more usable thrust. Every motor will have a sweet spot for power vs thrust ratio. But, proves the newer style factory blades awesome and best bang for the buck!

APC Props also draw much fewer amps than regular trolling motor props. So you get a higher top speed and more run time. You just have to stay out of the weeds. Where I fish we have no weeds so I don't have to worry about that. I'll never go back to a regular prop after using APC. I have also been using APC props in my RC planes for 15 years. APC props are computer-tested and real-world tested with factual data sheets you can download for each prop. You can find out what Prop will work best before even putting it in the water if you know your motor's wattage, RPM, and voltage. There is an online calculator which can pick the best prop for your system.

Nice video. Looking for a small 12v trolling motor (or maybe so-called thruster) that can be rigged in my Slayer Propel drive slot to give me fishing movements and back me up if loss of my 3hp NK300 occurs. Fishing sometimes big inshore waters and need the security of the 2nd electric motor.

Very cool you got to try all those out. So how do you like having the power drive? Did you have the Xi3 in the past or no? Wondering which is better. I know some don’t like the unpredictability of the Xi3.

Man, you are really doing God's work with this video. Been looking for that for a while. Subscribed. Tell me if my understanding is correct: A prop that displaces more water per spin (10x8) takes advantage of the higher pound thrust motor of the 70lbs (in lieu of the 55)? I am looking at the best options to get a bow mount to 5+ mph on the Crescent Light Tackle 2 (gets 6.4mph with Torqueedo 1103) or Crescent Crew (CK2) (gets 6.8mph with 1103). I weight 175 and carry only 20 pounds of gear. Looking into 80 pounds thrust Minn Kotas or even 90/115. I fish smallmouth bass kayak tournaments in Canada where we all start at the same ramp at 7 am. Hence why speed and spot lock are very important.

Haha thank you!! I looked for the same info repeatedly and couldn't find it and decided to make this. I am by no stretch an expert and am absolutely a lay person when it comes to this...but...my understanding is the prop pitch (8 in this case) reflects the distance moved in one complete rotation. It isn't the pounds of thrust that determine the speed from what I have read, but the speed of rotations. The 24 volts is what allows it to rotate faster than what a 12 volt motor would. My guess is the pounds of thrust the motor is built for determines the ceiling for the speed of prop rotations. There is probably a good bit more to this that I don't know or understand though. I previously used a Motorguide Xi5 80 lb thrust. It was certainly fast AF. Did great running into current and wind without taking much of hit to speed. The GPS functions were hot garbage though. I tried everything I could to get it to work right but it would always hang a hard right or left if I turned on the course heading in either mode and damn near throw me in the water. Try to use the anchor lock/spot lock and it just starts jerking the boat back and forth in a way that is unusable for fishing. I have spoken to and seen plenty of people who have had the opposite experience with Motorguide though. I now have a 24v 70 lb thrust Minn Kota Powerdrive now and the GPS functions work SOOOOOO much better. It did take a little bit of a hit on the speed, but since making this video I have put in new wiring (I had some corrosion going on and went from 8 gauge to 6 gauge). Now I get 4.9-5.1 mph with the 70 lb vs 5.2 mph with the 80 lb. That trade off is well worth it to me for how I fish. The Xi5 was also heavier and weighed down the bow, which can be problematic in heavy chop (I have a video on here from a tournament this last April that shows it plowing down into waves nose first lol). The 70 lb I use now is 8-10 lbs or so lighter and doesn't push the bow down nearly as much. I think the 90 and 115 motors would be too big and heavy and require more battery that would add more weight without providing much more speed if any. The length of the boat determines the max possible speed when it is displacing water vs a planing boat too. I couldn't tell you how that is determined, how it works, or even what it is called though lol.

@@The_Tennessee_Kayak_Angler 5mph is awesome! Especially with the very wide Unlimited. With the 75lbs, 12’4”, 34”, Crescent Light Tackle 2, I am hoping for 5.4. We’ll see. I’ll have to play with weight distribution. It is a stern-heavy boat. And you are right about the 115. Although I think it might make sense with something like the wilderness systems atak 140 which gets 7.5 mph with the Torqueedo 1103 (3hp). Perhaps we could see 6.2 with the 115 bow mount. Even then, probably only .6mph faster than the 80…

On your test I would be interested to see what the amp draw on the motor was on each prop. I've got a feeling that it wasn't anywhere near constant for the various props and "too much" prop can damage the motor and the potentially overload the wiring as well.

So your using a 24v power drive on your setup? I'm wondering if the APC Prop 10x8 will help my little 12v minkotta power drive go any faster then what i'm seeing now. average speed for me full throttle is 3.2 3.4. For the APC Prop 10x8 it so slim i wonder if it shatters easily. super cheap though. thanks for the review.

One of the issues is you're not testing them under resistance loads such as going through vegetation. The APC props get tangled up way too easy and end up amping out causing melting wires and blown breakers. About halfway through my day with the APC prop I had to take it off and put on the weedless wedge which did way better. Because of this I'll never use the APC again.
@The_Tennessee_Kayak_Angler

Agreed. I purposely am not testing them in vegetation and don’t use them in vegetation for that reason. There isn’t a whole lot of vegetation to worry about where I fish the majority of the time. I’ll be at Guntersville next month and will be using a different prop.
@FarmerFpv
@FarmerFpv Ай бұрын
APC is clearly a better-performing prop. The amp draw is also much less with the APC prop by a far margin. You get longer run time and more speed. Since I don't fish in weeds It's best for me. I'll never use APC again? You say that it melts wires and sets off breakers well that is common sense if you keep pushing the motor that is tangled up. Beyond that, if you stay out of the weeds your system will run cooler and faster with the APC props. That is a fact.
@WillSelbyKayakFishing
@WillSelbyKayakFishing Ай бұрын
@FarmerFpv you don't know what you're talking about. The difference is not that big, definitely not big enough for me to change props. At least not on my kayak. Plus your the dork that wants to assume someone keeps trying to pin the throttle down when they're tangled up. Sometimes it happens so fast that it just pops the breakers. If you don't fish in the weedy lakes, well then good for you Give yourself a hand but I think it's worth mentioning in the video. I've put this prop to the test on my own kayak using the amped outdoors Bluetooth battery shunt that shows the amp draw and the apc prop draws for amps on my kayak. Also I've purposely struck rocks with both the apc prop and the stock prop, the apc breaks before the stock prop everytime. So use what you want I can care less about what you do.
