The led is just covered with rubber witch is making it waterproof and this lamp is so simple that it doesn't even have a pcb(I think), so the wires are far enough from each other that the water can't short anything out. So that's why it's working after being submerged or melted, because it's so simple that nothing fails until the wires or the solder breaks.

As far as water resistance goes, a lot of simple devices will work when flooded. But will it work after it dries out, or will the guts rust or corrode? Keeping water out is important and not always easy.

The OG Atomic Beam Lantern rebranded now as Bell & Howell Tac Light Lantern, pretty sure was a metal body at one point, knockoffs may be "tough plastic'. Not sure if the new versions of Tac Lantern went with metal looking plastic or not. I just checked old Freakin' Reviews, review of this and it survived a 5' fall, sounded metal too and looks way different in the battery lid section.

There’s a lot of misconceptions about water being bad for electronics. water is actually an extremely good insulator as long as it is deionized and is PURE h2o. Water itself can not conduct electricity it’s the minerals in the water like salt, fluoride, chlorine (hopefully not actually in ur water but yk). Water is used in car batteries as insulation and keeps from the battery shorting itself out as well as to protect agnst corrosion and stuff. Even if the water isn’t deionized you can still toss a pc into a lake, wait for it to completely dry and it would still be useable as long as it was never turned on so there is no residual electricity in it. Just thought I should share.
