for the first experiment, I think the milk works as a kind of glue, because you let it in the milk bath for 24h the lactose (milk sugar) wanders between the cracks, dries sort of down and holds it together. I’m just a chemistry student :)

The reason the milk kinda works, is because the fat in the milk gets into the cracks/broken parts of the plate, and helps keep it together, which then the calcium also helps

Milk contains the casein protein of which casein glue is made from. It probably would have worked best if you had allowed the plate to dry completely though I still would not recommend using it for anything but decoration. Milk paint is very similar I hear. As to cleaning metals any acidic food can be used to reduce or remove oxidation. LOVED THE BAGEL TRICK !!! I've never seen or heard that one before.

life hack 1: Milk contains a protein, casein, that, with heat, can be formed into a natural plastic. because the milk you put in was cold that's why it didn't hold for long. life hack 2: i don't know about that one probably the bread was sticky. life hack 3: it is because of the carbonation in the beer, it will begin to break down the rust, not completely, but just enough to scrub it off. life hack 4: you did it wrong you are supposed to do this way, put water and washing soda in a spray bottle, and shake the bottle vigorously. Saturate the orange spots with the mixture, then top with some ketchup to get rid of the rust. Allow the items to sit for two hours before you rinse with water and wipe dry. life hack 5: The acids in the vinegar will help dissolve the white mineral deposits on the showerhead.

It works due to the build of if calcium crystals in the milk when water evaporates but it won't last long. It's what tv and films use for when they smash a plate on some ones head
@poolieo256 жыл бұрын
The calcium content in the milk would create a calcium build up in the cracks of the plate. 48 hours wouldnt work very well as the mineral neds time to form, but maybe a week would do better.

@claritey4 жыл бұрын
There's a small grain of truth in this "hack" but the way they portray it being done is bullshit. Evaporated milk has been used to fill in hairline cracks and tiny chips on fine china but fixing a ceramic plate broken into several pieces simply won't work, the milk protein doesn't provide enough structural integrity to keep the pieces together for any length of time, any tiny bump and it's in pieces again. Milk contains a protein called casein that can be made into a weak glue by boiling the milk down. It's a bit like Elmer's school glue but not as good, basically only useful for gluing two pieces of paper together.... definitely not broken plates.

Vinegar (or any acid) is great for removing hard water deposits. When i lived in West Texas the city had the hardest water I've ever seen. I cleaned houses for a living and there was so many houses with hard water build up on their faucets, unless they had a water softener. Used vinegar to soak up the area and ta da...... it's clean.

The bagel on the painting was amazing, it really appeared to do a great job of cleaning up the painting, I would definitely try that one. The vinegar cleaning the shower head appears to work great also, I'll definitely be using that one also. Some people would probably criticize you for wasting beer that they would otherwise be drinking lol, I'm not sure how well that one worked, but they did appear to be a bit shinier. The one with the Ketchup seemed too messy, but did appear to work. Great video, I enjoyed it very much 🙂

The way it works us by the calcium in the milk bonds the peices of the plate but the bond is not very strong so that's why it broke
@maestroandres4 жыл бұрын
Jovin Shaji, the milk thing only works on fine china, and it’s usually great for fixing small pieces that break off, or sealing chipping and hairline cracks... also, there’s a method to it, and it really works with fresh whole or evaporated milk, not the standard reconstituted stuff one gets at supermarkets nowadays. Now, fixing a plate broken in half might not work because of the weight and tension, unless a long submersion and some repeats are done ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@claritey4 жыл бұрын
And it has nothing to do with the calcium. Its because of a protein called casein. You can use milk to make a weak glue but it's only strong enough to glue paper together, it's definitely not strong enough to mend a plate broken in pieces. Any little bump and it's broken again.
