Gran Turismo 7 doesn't do a very good job explaining things especially when it comes to which tires to use in different track conditions. I test all the tires in all the track conditions to determine which tires need to be used in which conditions once and for all.

I always assumed, for wet weather, under the first mark normal racing tires would be fine, between the marks, IMs would be optimal, and above the second mark wets would be optimal. But this was just an assumption. It’s nice that you tested this.

Hello, great video! A few comments, if I may. I have been experimenting with the big money races too and here is what I found: At Spa and Le Mans the rain mostly comes down in the second third of the race. At Le Mans I have seen the rain at the end of lap 2 and also 2-3 minutes into lap 3. I always use IM tires instead of W for the rest of the race and conserve them as much as possible by driving close to the guardrails and generally chosing wet parts of the track. The wet meter helps with that. If you keep driving on the dry parts the IMs won't last even 2 laps. For me it is mostly 3/2/2 laps, 3 on RHs and the rest on IMs. Second, full wet tires only seem to give you an advantage when the wet meter is in the upper third. That happens frequently at the big money race at Spa. However I have had good results with IMs as well since you don't need to immediately pit once the track dries up. You do need to brake earlier and pay more attention but the AI doesn't seem to like rain at all, so it's all good. One could simplify the tire issue by saying lower third of the wet meter, use slicks, middle third, use IMs, upper third, use Ws, as a rule of thumb. Third, maybe I'm just a bad driver who hasn't upgraded to a sim rig yet, but my experience with a drying track is this: change to RHs or any other slicks and get just one wheel on a wet part of the track, you'll end up in the kitty litter or slam into the guard rail. It works best for me to finish Le Mans and Spa on IMs. Again, great vid and thank you!

Thanks man. I think you’ve got a great handle on what tires are needed for each conditions 👍🏻 You’re especially correct on a track with a drying line. It’s something that I’ve been trying to find a way to test. On the racing line. Dry tires are what is needed. But the margin for error is so narrow and usually ends up with a big crash!
@320iSTWEdition
@320iSTWEdition Ай бұрын
Your "Third" has nothing to do with a "sim rig" it will happen with that one just as much because physics. I'm getting around relatively well with my PS4 controller, having nearly reached a DR of B...... so you don't need a sim rig to play well. You only have to be able to use well what you have.

I've tried that, accidentally. I had bought a car and started with sports, then upgraded to hards... I was running a dynamic weather race and realized I hadn't bought any wet weather tire, so I tried the old sports. They're better than slicks, but are pretty slippery in heavy wet conditions. They might suffice in place of intermediates, but I think they're slower overall.

I worked out from racing in 24 hour lamans, those intermediates wear fast when the rain meter is below the first mark. The only time I've ever use wets is on the 1 hour spa race, simply because it can rain hard for 30 minutes of that race, then u can swap to intermediates to finish the race. Wet tyres are a waste of time on 24hour lamans simply because the track dries out too fast

@-BuddyGuy
@-BuddyGuy Ай бұрын
For campaign wet races at least its usually optimal to run hards, since you can max out the pp and you'll have to switch to inters anyway. The tyre wear is very significant because wets start to degrade quicker when you get to the track transitioning from wet to dry. The inters in the dry are not terribly slower than the hards, but the wets never get there because they obliterate themselves before the track loses all the accumulated water. This forces a pit stop where on inters you can just about stick it out until it's safe for hards. There are usually 2 laps max with full wet conditions in the SPA 1 hour for example. It's never worth going to full wets for those laps.

Yeah, when it gets to 1 bar of rain or more on slicks, you MUST be in manual mode to short shift. And you even at that are limited at 1.1 bar to around 120mph in a Gr.4, and 1.5bar down to 80mph-ish tops. I've done a ton of rain driving in game, so gotten fairly solid at reading when to get what tires. And yeah, as soon as the bar is under 1, slicks are faster.

Personally, I will drive on the wet parts in the straights to save tyres if I am still running IM or W tyres after the rain and drying up, or the radar shows it's going back to rain maybe in 2,3laps times to make my pit stops window wider. It does help, I have been doing it in Spa and Le Mans I guess it's like how racing drivers sometimes cool down their tyres, not sure, I am not a pro

great GT7 race sim channel, nice to see an authentic reliable channel here. interesting topic, if you invite feedback on topics what about comparing certain cars on certain tracks where having (for example) RH on the front and RS on the back (or vice versa) for non-online formal racing (obviously not for world championships etc) to compare handling characteristics and the impact this does have (both better and worse depending of course on specific car, specific track, conditions, whether car is FR/FF/MR etc i remember the X-Bow on certain race tracks had a significant gain in handling in many weather conditions by doing this! i wanted to explore that myself further at some point but too busy with the current world championships manufacturers cup etc to do this... keep up the great work mate! Wonky-Weronika (australia) PS: i've been racing GT since inception in 1998, totally addicted.. my personal little youtube channel focuses mainly on racing hot laps on the Nurburgring Nordscheife track in classic vintage cars for comparisons. where are you located if i may ask mate? back to see more of your videos soon! 🏁🇦🇺

Very glad that PD changed how the intermediate wets would hydroplane like you were racing on ice at anything over 130mph whenever the track's wetness meter would even barely tick over into the 3rd portion of the bar. That used to make the 1 hour spa race a pain. Not to mention how inaccurate the weather radar used to be too.

personally I hate both inter & wet tyres. my poor g29 feels like it's missing feedback & I don't get any confidence while using them, but in wet conditions, I always go with inters even if the rain meter is full, I just turn on tc and cs assistance + massive short shifting - I feel they provide same grip but are faster. maybe on direct drive wheel people might be able to note a bigger difference.

I honestly think it depends on what the weather is going to do, how long the lap times are, and the car you are using. The top money maker in 60 mins is Le Mans in the World Touring Cup 700. You can run 2 of these in an hour and with a clean race bonus on each, earn more than the 60 min race with a clean race bonus. Sardenga is easier to do, you can typically complete it 5 mins quicker, and has no rain. However, you are still only doing 2 of these in an hour and will be a couple hundred thousand less in rewards in the same timeframe. Problem with the WTC 700 is the rain pattern and frequency is very inconsistent and the lap times are over 4 mins. If you put the wrong tires on you are either burning them up in 1 lap or your car is all over the place. Intermediates are typically your best choice not just because of how they perform in the wet but because often times it may only rain on one part of the track leaving the other parts dry or it may only briefly rain and a dry line starts to appear shortly after. If you put wets on, you’ll burn them up before you can pit again and the handling with wets is atrocious. Flip side, you may also get heavy rain for 2 laps an Intermediates will slow you down in heavy rain. For that race specifically, it will typically start raining around lap 3. On average, the rain isn’t heavy, so watch your weather radar, if rain starts rolling in, pit at the end of lap 3, swap to intermediates, and pray the track stays a little wet for the rest of the race. If not, you’ll have to pit again and put racing slicks back on. On any other track I’d say it depends purely on how heavy it rains. In heavy rain, wets outperform intermediates. If on a smaller track, you can pit more often to adjust to the track condition. Not the case on WTC 700

Yes I agree. Predicting the weather is more critical than choosing the correct wet weather tire type. 👍🏻
