I just ordered one of these yesterday! I think they state on their site that the brightest glowing comes from new growth, so you are correct in your statement that it will probably be better looking once its healthy and growing well. First time I've seen your channel too, so far seems like cool content and you seem to be an entertaining host. Will be subscribing!

I have one of these also, and after spending some time in a fresh pot and giving it lots of sun and nutrients, and doing some deadheading of the flowers, it's producing tons of new growth, and the glow has expanded almost all the way down the stem and into the leaves for my plant. I will be taking some cuttings and hopefully creating some siblings for it very soon.

What happens when you shine a UV light on it and then put in dark room? Or hold it in the sun and then immediately move to a dark room? Please test it and report back
@carltoncarnivores8 ай бұрын
The chemical reaction causing this isn't based on immediate light exposure. It's based on the health of the plant and how actively it's growing, not a phosphate photoreaction and not UV biofluorescence. Flash it in the sun and there will be no difference.

Dude, unless that was a very special video camera, that's a pretty strong glow! Previous attempts at glowing plants (which I have never had a chance to see) as well as the bioluminescent mycellia that I have had a chance to see (Panellus stypticus & Omphalotus nidiformis) usually require long exposures to photograph and can likely only be seen after acclimating oneself to the dark for a couple of minutes (at least that was my experience with the aforementioned fungi).
@StephenBlacktampa8 ай бұрын
you are correct. I have one plant and the blooms glow quite well considering what is currently available on the market.

Thank you for doing the "dark room check" on these... I was quite skeptical that it was not camera trickery to get them to glow like they did on the advertisements I saw, not really into flowery plants but gonna have to make an exception for these lol

Careful with publicly propagating these plants. The applicable patent includes propagation for personal use and not just propagation for resale. It's a bummer because I really wanted to do a propagation video with them for my own channel but now I'll have to buy some un-patented petunias for the video instead. I'm not saying I'm not propagating these plants. I'm not saying I'm propagating these plants. I'm just saying it's probably a good idea to not be seen propagating these plants. ;)

The mushrooms they took the genes from glow about the same amount (or maybe even less) so even if you get it fully acclimated it probably won't glow more than you saw. Note that the plant is more than likely stressed out from shipping, so it's not as bright as it will be at it's healthiest. The enzymes that create the glow feed off nutrients and need oxygen and CO2 to keep producing. Keep taking care of it and it will glow stronger!

just wanted to point out I got mine a week ago and a lot of people showing the glow of these are doing it wrong, they only glow at night, it has nothing to do with light. Even the species of mushroom that the dna they used on this plant will only glow at night, so during the day even if taken into a dark room there will be almost no glow. I can confirm this glows as much as the ads show every single part of the plant glows but the leaves, even the stems of the plant glow at night, and glow quite bright it is honestly shocking how much they glow. it glows bright at around 11 am, and around 3 or 4 am it is very bright even in a pitch black room you can see every bit of the plant glowing green all the way from the dirt to the very top flower.
@dmitriyapak8 ай бұрын
Why are you pasting this comment everywhere? Can u possibly upload a picture of what you are describing to your community feed on KZbin? Sorry I'm reading conflicting reviews
@nigelthornberry75138 ай бұрын
@@dmitriyapak I don't have a dlsr camera you need a very high quality camera to be able to see the glow the same way as the human eye, and sadly the camera on my phone can not do that lol. But I can 100% assure you it glows just as bright as shown on their site, however you need to care for the plant right to get it to glow. One it needs at least 6 hours of full sun a day that means not on a window sill, it has to be outside or under a grow light like any petunia, you can not grow a happy petunia indoors. And two it needs fertilized regularly one time a week with a water soluble fertilizer, just like you would any petunia you want to see grow well, and the most important part of all it only glows at night it does not matter if you bring it into a dark room in the middle of the day plants are not dumb, even if you mess with the light it knows it is still day. Even the mushroom that they got the dna from to add bioluminescence to the plant only glows at night, this video is the best I have seen so far. kzbin.info/www/bejne/r6WbhqehZtWWi6s it really shows the glow because it shows it at night not a dark room in the day and in person it is even a little brighter then that.

@marcopaganelli605910 ай бұрын
The effect is so cool but I'm wondering if that is really due to the fungi or if it just has been given by some substance the flowers has been treated with cause it should have been visible on all the plant if the fungi conolized the whole plant instead it's shown just from the flowers ... What do you think? May it just be something that won't last? Even if it would be just on the flowers it should be replicated by the plant itself on any flower that arise if that is true than all the plant had been really engeeneered like they attest

At least it's barely visible on camera without super-high exposure, but still not even close to their edited promotional materials.
